Tour Cam Young testing Titleist's new 2-wood prototype – 2024 The Players Championship

I saw yesterday some one said they only made 5 heads.. hoping it gets so much love online we get a TSX 2 Wood/mini driver!

I'm sure that's a talkative test drive, I bet the Titleist rep can't get a word in edgewise.  I mean look how excited he is to be testing one-off clubs and playing golf for a multi-million dollar living.

The golf world finally accepts that distance isn't everything. Now, we have to invent clubs that hit the ball shorter?

 

I do appreciate Sawgrass on this point. Sometimes it matters where you hit the ball, not merely how far.

Figured he was the Titleist target for this product when I saw the Burner Mini in his bag. Don't see a fit for the club for me personally but it is a sweet looking club.

I’ve played Sawgrass twice and was lucky enough to have an excellent caddy the first time that I requested the second. 
 

The first thing he said before we started, standing on #1 tee with a driver in my hand…

So, I pulled 3W, hit it in the right fairway bunker, and made bogey anyway. He wasn’t wrong about the design though. Miss an approach short and you’re likely in trouble. Miss a fairway? Best of luck with that approach.

Looks like he started in the Ventus Blue then switched to the 1k White.  

 

I'm all in on the Baby TSr 4.

Looks like the perfect size -- I'm guessing maybe 220cc, something like that. It's exactly what I've been looking for, if I ever switch from my current TSR2+. I've played all three of the TaylorMade mini drivers but they are just too big and pretty useless off the deck.

I would buy one if it was a little bigger footprint and not such a deep face.

 

But I'll probably buy one anyway.  Interesting to see Cam Young hit it from a tee, which is probably the club's best use.

Isn’t that the main point of a mini driver club? An off the tee option when driver distance will put you in trouble and perhaps is a bit more accurate?

What was old is new again.  I thought the same when all these "mini-drivers" started showing up a few years ago.  The closely resemble drivers of 15-20 years ago.

I actually made par on 17 both days. It’s one of the easier holes on the course if you don’t psyche yourself out. PW/9i to a green that is a lot bigger than it looks on TV. The front pin made things nice on day 1 though. Of course, there weren’t 30,000 people watching either. 
 

Second fun story about my caddy. I was playing significantly better on the back nine (day 1) and had my feet under me. Popped a drive down the middle of 16 and had a chance to get home in two. 
 

He gives me a yardage to layup to a full wedge. I tell him I’ve got the number to get there. He gives me an “ok, kid” nod, crosses his arms and stands back. 
 

I whiff a mid/long iron 15 yards right into the lake. Drop from a yardage twice as far as the layup would have been, and take my double with him laughing about it the entire time. 
 

Dye did a hell of a job on the design. I wish I could remember the hole, but I missed a green about 10 yards right and ended up with a shot from a grass pot bunker, directly behind a palm tree. Diabolical.
