Texas Children's Houston Open 2024

The PGA Tour moves away from the respective coasts of the US this week and heads to Texas! You will be forgiven for having to pause if you are trying to think of last years event, there was not one. Schedule changes resulted in a fallow year for this event with its last staging take place in November 2022. When we were last here, Tony Finau claimed his 5th win on Tour during a period where he seemed to be a factor in and around every other regular tour event. Whilst it would be unfair to say he has hit the skids, his putting is not on par with the rest of his game and surely costs him more opportunities than it creates. That said, coming into this week, he and the rest of the field could put like prime Brad Faxon and not get close to the win if the indisputable world number 1, Scottie Scheffler turns up on his game. Going for his 3rd win in a row and in a home state event it is hard to say with any confidence that someone might beat him this week. Those that will try will know that if they do, they have a heck of a chance of walking away with the trophy.

Going to look a lot different than in years past with the entire course basically overseeded. Weather forecast is looking pretty ideal other than some wind Sunday.

Having played MP as much as I have, it's really not a bombers course at 7400 yards. It's all about where you miss with less than 7iron in your hand. Also how well you can bump and run off tight bermuda. I seen some elite guys look ridiculous off some run off areas in 2021. 

Liking Sahith this week. He also nested himself up here in The Woodlands a few years back so home town event for him.

looking at the course map 3rd hole looks like a traffic jam waiting to happen as people on 2 and 7 green wait for people to tee off on that par 5 with the tee only 10 yards from both of those greens

There’s a wraparound stand on 3 tee, it won’t bother the guys on 2. It’ll bother the guys on 7 but it takes a matter of seconds for one guy to tee off and the next to putt out

Is this course good prep for Augusta? Didn’t pay much attention to the Houston Open in the fall. I remember Golf Club of Houston had a lot of similar components to Augusta.
