Will likely come down to how mentally disciplined he can be. His ability to bring irons down so steeply is a big advantage. He's admitted to struggling with executing what we calls "boring golf", but that's obviously the requirement to contend this week. If he breaks discipline and starts firing at flags, then it won't take long for the course to beat him up.

Gotta say boys and girls, I am really digging this tourney so far. The course is playing seriously hard, but not ferociously and unfairly hard. No one is going to win at -20, but no one is at +1. Kudos to the USGA, I think they calibrated the course just about right. Tough, but not unduly cruel.

Fully agree. Fun, fair, hard, enjoyable.  It will undoubtedly get harder but so what. It’s our National Championship.

I want you to know.  I sat here for my whole lunch hour and couldn’t find this on TV. But I didn’t ask here. Noooo. I just ate my sandwich.  Worked the phones for $ they all owe me, and watched a home show on the HGtv network.  And then. I see a ribbon on the bottom of the tv after I swap to golf Chanel and it says “ on USA till 5”.  I flip it over. And see it was on the whole time. Oh well. Back to work. At least I can record it now. Why do these morons charge Chanel’s for every dang major. I never can find it. 🤣

Under its more day-to-day conditions (ie not baked out and scalped), the rating for Pinehurst No. 2 from the US Open tees is 77.9. Have to think if it was rated for this weekend it would come out north of 80.
