Welp.. literally dusted my clubs off and playing my first round since the fracture and surgery tomorrow. I think it's been a little over 3 months or so, 6 weeks of PT and I got through 5 driver swings that felt decent enough to join some buddies up at Riviera tomorrow. Seemed like a fitting venue to start my comeback at :)

 

I'll let you know how it all goes, baby steps!

TP didn't work for me at all, SS is about 108, the Atmos gave me visually a great shot shape and I liked it. But I just tested out some Veylix shafts and my god. I had Peoples' sending me two more before I made the turn.

AD TP is the ticket for me. Tried the AD GP 7x and actually went a little bit lighter in the AD TP and boom. It's a firm feeling shaft for me but just a solid flat ball flight. SS is about 115 and AOA is about +2 degrees

As most of you know, I've been out since breaking a bone in my hand and then having surgery to remove the broken piece around March. Last week, I started hitting a few 3/4 wedges and up to punch 7 irons. I went a few times after than to where I got up to my 3 wood and hit some really good shots, that I was happy with but even more surprised by. I didn't want to push it with hitting driver, as the driver is the swing that ultimately broke the bone.. a few days later I hit the driver, and again, surprisingly well and good enough to join some friends up at Riviera. Riv is one of my favorite tracks, so I thought it would be a great time/place/group to start back.. plus, at this point, I'm just sick of not being able to play!

 

So, we made the trip to to Riviera - literally dusted my clubs off, packed up a nice selection of Cuban cigars, and prayed that my hand/wrist would hold up. First tee, no warm up, a few people watching, and after the customary introduction/announcement on the first tee.. I somehow hit a really good drive, distance was solid and dead straight.. I was shocked. Second shot was about 195ish in, I hit a little cut 5 iron to about 30 feet and two putted for birdie. :yahoo: 2nd hole, piped driver again and flushed a 4 iron dead into the wind that went over the green, keep in mind I have no idea how far I'm hitting my irons or anything at this point. I don't know what my "100%" even is, since I'm backing off on every shot to protect the hand/wrist. I had 3-4 birdies on the day, probably another 2 doubles where I couldn't find my ball in some of the Riv fescue which generally aren't terrible shots, but are penalized badly. I hit some amazing iron shots, and drove and putted the ball really well. My short game was pretty sketchy and any shot that I was trying to finesse was pretty bad. My arm started to get really fatigued by the 15th hole and was really running on fumes towards the end. My golf muscles in my left arm are really weak, my actual hand and scar were perfectly fine, so just easing back into playing will strengthen my arm back up.

 

All in all, it was a great time, great being back outside and enjoying the game with no expectations. Having a forced time off when the weather has been perfect and my friends have been playing in some really awesome tournaments, member/guests, club tourneys, etc. has been really tough but as many have reminded me, the time off has been extremely busy with family and friends and doing other things outside of golf which really changed my perspective on things. I know it sounds crazy, but for many on here who love golf like I do, I'm sure you can relate.. and also relate with our perspectives getting out of whack when we start to take the game and ourselves too seriously. Thanks again for the kind words and encouragement in here. :drinks:

Not the best picture, but this stretch on the back 11-13 has a surreal feel to it, tucked in the back, wild parrots, very calm feel to it.. the back 9 at Riviera is just really good.

#10 - dead into the wind, absolutely crushed 3 wood (possible out of body experience) ball was maybe 5-7 paces off the front, close enough where I almost putted it.

 

 

 

Well, the start of the comeback tour was a lot of fun.. hoping to finish this year out strong and not break anymore bones! :tongue:

Thanks! No clue on what my club is doing and where, it's a great feeling playing a round where you're not working on this or that and just enjoying actually being able to swing the club.

Was also thinking of building up a 2 or 3 driving iron with low spinning graphite shaft. Probably a Apex utility iron. Toying with the idea of graphite shafts in my irons for the time being as well - to absorb some of the shock and also to lower the static weight and make it a little easier on my wrist and hand.

 

DG X7's aren't the easiest on the ole wrist :)

 

I shaved the tip on a motore speeder tour spec vc 9.8 and put it in a 712u 2 iron, I really like it.

 

I also fooled around with graphite shafts in irons to try and reduce the strain on my wrists and elbows. Tried steelfiber 110 x and 125 x, coming from x100s my whole life I thought both were really boardy so coming from x7s you might like them. Tried recoils too they were pretty meh, I'm back to x100s for now.

I'm thinking best way to reduce strain on joints is obviously lifting but get really shallow through impact. I like to dig but my joints don't like it.
