Iron Covers

I use iron covers and a few of my golf buddies do also, call us hacks, yeah maybe (I don't care). I use irons covers for a few reasons; Keeps them from banging loudly when I carry on the course, keeps my clubs from looking to banged up, I also don't like on lookers commenting on my irons (saying Oh you play blades, why? or the Hey can I hit those and they are in route to shooting 100+ or the dreaded missing club or clubs, I had a bag stolen before at a country club in upstate NY years ago and I still haven't gotten over that!),I don't plan on selling my clubs and they are not a investment. Yes, they are tools but I'm particular about my tools and I try to keep them looking new as long as possible. What's nice is having that round wear spot in the center of the face and the rest of the club looking new. So, I'm all for iron covers if that's your cup of tea,am I a HACK, heck yeah.

Two things are a dead giveaway that you are playing with a "dildo".

Iron covers, and lighting up a cigar on the course.

You know it's going to be a long day when you are in the dildo-group.
You think? I've used iron covers and I smoke a few cigars during a round. I've played 18 holes in under 2 hours on a par 72 regulation course. What would be long about that day?

I've asked this question before, and no one has answered it yet (and I have my opinions on why). For those who refuse to accept iron covers because "irons are tools that are slammed into the ground with rocks and sand", what do you use to clean the dirt out of the face of your irons? Would you use a brass brush? If not, why not?

For that past 3 years I have shot in the 90's on a regular basis. Laugh at me if you wish as I said I'm a hack. I get to play maybe 36 holes in a month so my game sucks. I don't mind as my expections (concerning golf) have changed and years ago I shot in the 70's on a regular basis when I played more. If people think less of you because you have iron covers or shoot in the 90's then that's their problem and if you let it bother you then it's YOUR problem! :ok:

A new forum rule for all new members, "learn how to use the search feature" also you will be required to read ALL forums containing the words headcover (s) and "longest straight (insert club type, driver, 3 wood or whatever) oh, one more, "will I look like a (insert name) if I carry a staff bag?"
OK, move along as there is nothing to read here......................:russian_roulette:

Can't really make fun of a guy who wants to protect his $900 set of irons while you're covering your $200 putter in an airbag. :)
How 'bout making fun of a guy who uses the term "metalwoods?" ;)

I protect my irons from themselves and other things with iron covers when they're traveling in my travel bag (where some serious damage could occur were things not packed tightly at the top of the bag). Outside of that, I think they don't make enough sense to use.

My 5-iron has a ding in the leading edge from a rock in a bunker, NOT from bag chatter...
Yea, that's hilarious, what's that in your sig, a 3 wood? Must be persimmon. Good one. Duh.

Chop....if iron covers were necessary then tour pros who have caddies would use them. They dont and iron covers are horrendous. You dont want your irons to get beat up? Get real...ur hitting a ball with sand and dirt and grass at speeds above 100mph, its only natural that they get a little dinged up.
I retort:

Of course pro's don't use them. Their sponsors pay them to show what they are playing ... of course they give them new ones anytime they want them as well. When Titleist starts handing me a new set of blades whenever I want them, I'll stop using covers also.
Yes, irons are used to strike the ball, but striking a ball involves the face and sole, not smacking up the back with a million little dents and dings.
When you get a new set, do you throw your old set away?

Heck, why wax your car? It's just going to wear out eventually. Bugs hit your car, rocks hit your car, hail, rain, dust, sand .... so by your logic, forget about it and don't bother washing and waxing it either. Just drive it and forget about it and laugh at all those dummies out there waxing their cars.

I use iron covers to and from the course. I also light up a cigar on the course. So that must make me a "dildo"?

Wanna play... bring your money.

Also, next time you see one of those "Dildo's" on the course, tell him, to his face, your opinion of him. Don't hide behind a computer screen.

I'm forever intrigued at the topics that get discussed around here.

If you show up with head covers on your irons, I probably won't even notice. I rarely notice what another player is carting around with him. So, I'm also not likely to be impressed that you are carrying the latest whizbang driver made of unobtainium. I WILL be impressed if you stripe your drives and hit greens in regulation, however.

+1!!! Just don't play slow, that is the only thing I care about on the course. If you have iron covers, the most expensive blades , a driver with five shaft options and you shoot a 120 I could care less as long as you don't slow me down when I'm playing with you.

I personally think iron covers are kind of lame and I won't use them but I could care less if someone else does...unless, as other's have said, it slows down play (which it often does). Just don't use the "clubs are an investment" line. If you want your clubs to look as new as possible, that's cool by me, but golf clubs yield no return making them the worst investment of all time.

Glove: ML
Tees: 2 3/4
Towel: white
Repair tool: metal
Ball Marker: largest poker chip in the world
Iron headcovers: wait, what?

The feedback system is annoying

I am a user. There --- it is out. My Adams forged CB2's still look great.

You are correct --- Golf clubs are a poor investment. However, for those that care, resale value is much better based on condition.

In a nut shell, I care about my stuff and try to take care of what belongs to me. When I am playing well I play in the low 80's and have no illusions of ever playing on tour. I doubt I ever even win my club championship. However, I take home bragging rights from my buddies more often than not and i play it down even when they do not. Finally ----- I love to play the game.

From my experience, the only people who usually even notice stuff like that (iron covers, clothing, etc....) are usually junior golfers, high schoolers, kids under 25 or people who are more concerned about LOOKING like a good golfer than actually BEING one. If you like iron covers, put 'em on. Who cares?

Those of us geezers over 40 (like me) are usually busy thinking about bills to pay, kids to put through college, nagging wife that we're getting away from for a few hours, career issues, other problems or our own score and never even notice what kind of clubs you're playing, whether or not you have iron covers or headcovers, whether or not you're wearing cargo shorts (or pants), what kind of shoes you're wearing, or what your score is (unless we're playing you for money).
