Amateurs with Staff Bags...Yes or No?(merged)

Saw a guy the other day who i hadn't seen before. ™ SLDR tour bag all ™ clubs and ball the lot. Adidas clothing head to toe. I thought huh i bet this guy is good. He sliced two off the first tee. I thought, ah yeah, sums this thread up a treat

It just looks like they are trying too hard to be like the pros on TV. They have caddies who carry their clubs virtually every time they play. I mean if you use a cart every time you play, then I guess you might be able to justify it, but they are just too big IMO. But then again I live in SoCal where rarely we even need rain gear.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I honestly don't think I've ever looked at someone with a staff bag and thought to myself that it was wrong or even took notice of whether or not they could play.

Can I ask, what's it to you? Does it somehow affect you?

I think the best looking thing about a staff bag, is the fact that the white ones are such a contrast to most other bags (the majority of bags sold are of a darker color)

I love the way my White Ping staff bag looks.

I have a staff bag and normally shoot in the high 80's. I like the room and got a great deal on it. I don't care what others think, as long as it makes me happy.

I play with the current titleist tour bag( 9.5 inches ) because I carried lots of staff, I always have 3 liters of water, face tape, towel, camera, rain clothes, it's also very hermetic and thanks to the kind of ballistic material, it is very easy to wash. beisdes I got a 20% reduction, so....

Just keep pace on the course and I don't care if you use a staff bag or an archery quiver.

I don't necessarily get those guys that own multiple bags. That being said, find something that works for you and who cares what others might say about your gear. Let the score card do the talking.

If an amateur should not have a staff bag why should a pro. I'm sure the caddy would be happier carrying a lightweight bag around and yes all the gear would still fit. The pro gets endorsement money and the amateur carries that gargantuan hunk of leather around for free- god bless him.

Years later, I've posted in this thread that I can understand a staff bag if you cart golf every round, but NO chance am I packing a behemoth like the ones posted all over a course.

I just wish someone would answer this question: For the guys who have these huge bags that can hold lots of stuff and carry umbrellas, rain gear, beers, extra balls etc...You guys are carting it for most your rounds, no?

I cant say I've ever seen anyone pack one of those things around a golf course.

I plan on walking the course with a lighter carry bag until I am unable to physically do so.

As far as the poser/tour look/wannabe thing, I couldnt care less about that. I just don't see the practicality out of a huge bag coming from a guy who walks 99 percent of his rounds.

Yes, I carry my Staff Bag I will walk with mine every so often just to have that Old School feeling getting back to the roots of Golf thing(before they had Carts).........I have an extra smaller strap like most if not all PGA Caddies use it makes the Bag a lot easier to manage on the Course.......they also make a Izzo three point strap for Staff Bags it's more like the harness on Stand Bags. Years later, I still say, "It's still your money." Do what you want with your equipment. Carry a staff bag, play a 1-iron, rock persimmon, wear plus fours. It's all on you. Do what makes you happy in your golf game. Just wear pants.

I bought my TM staff bag from a pro for $50. It's an R7 bag iirc. I like the large pockets and the fact my clubs aren't jammed into the bag. Fwiw, I use a cart too. I occasionally walk but use a pull cart.

Most of the people I know that carry a stand, or cart or staff bag do so as a matter of utility to fit their needs... nobody I know gives a flat out crap about looking cool or what other people think.

If a person wants one, why not? Personally, Im a 20 handicap and Id rock a Mizuno staff bag if I had an extra $500 burning a hole in my pocket.

Had one and it just wasnt convenient for range use and didnt really fit on the riding carts that well. Of course you'd never want to carry one for 18 holes. So - got rid of it and back to a hoofer. Won't be getting another staff bag.

Found out this past weekend that our Staff Bags fit very nicely into riding Golf Carts backwards with the panel facing outward.......Staff bags are Great there's room for everything(shoes,golf balls,tees,ball retriever,rain gear,towels,extra dry clothes and a Kitchen Sink)

You know how many beers you can get in a staff bag? A TON. You can be blind drunk by the 8th fairway. That is the only reason I had one 10 years ago, but I know longer play golf like that so I don't have one anymore. It was fun back in the day, at least what I remember....
