I got spanked by my 70 year old Mom!

I fear even hitting the ball now.

So Sunday I went to my Mom ad Dad's Country Club to play 18 holes. This is a course I grew up on, so I am very familiar with it. I arrived an hour early to hit balls. I warmed up with some putts since the range was packed. Finally a bunch of people left and I got a chance to hit. I brought out my Tour Striker pro and proceeded to top my first three shots. Not good. I tried not to make I contact with anyone. I then hit some more shots with a mix of good and bad.

My Mom arrived and we went to the first hole. We play for a quarter a hole and double on birds. No carry overs. I know, chump change, but it's the competition that matters.

My 70 year old mother, it should be noted, plays from the gold tees and is the reining senior club champion. Still, she's 70 for crying out loud. The gold tees are only 20 feet ahead of the whites on some holes. I figure she will want to quit the money game after nine. Wrong.

I hook a drive into the trees on one. Lost ball so I take an X. I chop my way around the course as my flip creeps into my swing. I am line driving sand wedges. I start to chunk, flip my wrists for huge water bound hooks and hit 75 yard slices. I managed to win a few holes only because my mom would, "take it easy on me." I know this because she would announce, "I'll give you a chance," before hitting an impossible shot that resulted in a win for me. Yes, my mother felt sorry for her 46 year old son. How humiliating!

On the last hole I hit a drive two counties to the right. I tried to punch out and managed to chop down four inches behind the ball. I sprained my wrist, lost a dollar to Mom and gave up my manhood card for the year! But it was a nice sunny day and I realize how lucky I am to even be able to play golf with mom. Thank you Lord. :)

LOL, good story....maybe when you retire in 20 years you will have the time to be as good as your Mom. Or maybe you could pay her a little extra for a lesson...after you clean your room.
Just make sure you beg her not to tell her lady friends at the club what happened...that would be too much to bear.

Seriously you are lucky to be able to put yourself in that situation, spending time with family on the golf course is a great thing, I often wished my parents played the game, you and I are about the same age....we should be thankful that they are #1 still with us, #2 they are still active and enjoy life and #3 you can enjoy a round of golf with your Mother.

Cool story, I think my mother and I are each about two years older than you and yours. Mom and her family are crazy athletic, but she refuses to take up golf (maybe cause it will cut into her casino time). Don't feel too bad about losing to Mom, I think mine was close to 50 before I could beat her at ping pong. Just a neat thing to be able to share that with your mom, continue to enjoy it!

I do value my time with my parents. It sucks having the yips though, especially on chips and pitches. I kept telling my mother, "I don't need your charity!" How funny, in a pathetic sort of way, is that? LOL.

I have a friend whose mother was the reigning senior women's club champion
well into her eighties. Had a superb short game and putted lights out.

Just thought your mother might like to know she can have many, many good
years of golf ahead of her!

My mom is 70 and didn't even start playing until she was in her 40s. Me and my dad were always out playing so she started when we joined a club. She wasn't that good at first but kept at it.

I was playing with her at a local public course a couple of years ago and she shot a legit 83 and didn't even put well. It isn't an easy course either.

My mom's 72 years old and still plays once or twice a week. My brother, his 2 boys, me and my mom played a scramble tourney yesterday. She still hits it about 125-135 yds easy. In fact we used her shot on one of the par 3s. As we all missed the green except her. Boy she sure is good with her fwy woods. I think she shoots in the 90's most of the time from where she plays.

Don't feel bad. I'm damn near 30 and my 80 year old grandfather whomps me nearly every time we golf. To make things worse he hits with me from the whites. Granted I shoot around 90 most times.......

Funny as Sh&*t!!! Probably because its reminds me of getting whooped up on by my 80 yr old grandfather. Wasn't fun then but now that he is long gone, I would do it a million time over if I could. Great times.

Great Story! I introduced my Mom to the Game, before I knew it she was beating me. It probably took me 2-3 yrs before I could beat her consistently. I now have a daughter on the way and I pray that she will enjoy the game one day with us one day, in fact my mom is already scheming on when to purchase a set of clubs for the baby
