I guess it depends which bag I have with me that day... I've got the shiny staff bag with all pretty new clubs look for corporate/charity events. I have the beat up carry bag with well used clubs that I don't care about for touring low end muni's.... The "that guy can't hit it out of his shadow, I'm really a 12 hcp." bag if I feel like taking some money. My Callaway bag that holds over 20 beers in the cooler pocket for those weekend rounds with my non-serious group. My old well worn staff bag for tournaments with my blades with dime sized wear spots...

After all that, then you have to hit the ball, and what your bag said is all forgotten... and then you open your mouth and people's real opinion of you is formed.
[/quote]
wow, youve put a lot of thought into your five bags...

For the poster above, you're a ping fan boy.

My bag
Titleist 910D3
Titleist 910Fd 15*
Adams Pro Black 18*
Nike VR Combo 3-PW
Vokey 52 and 58 cc
Current putter Nike Method 003, I have a scotty studio select newport
Ping hoofer c-1 black
Also keep my range finder clipped to the top of my bag and have a giant TM towel even though I don't play any TM stuff.

Whats funny though is that I only bought 3 of these clubs new, everything else was bought used in newish condition.

everybody has done this: when you see blades you think the person must be pretty decent.

As someone who has grown up playing lots of junior golf, I think the opposite. Very rarely do you see a junior golfer playing blades that ought to be playing them. They're usually just for effect.

Just my .02

This is kinda funny. I agree with you Kg92lefty! Blades do bring respect with them but if you can't hit them you are dead, seriously. Everyone thinks your a total joke, at least that's how it is at my club. First hole, is a 205 yards par 3 with a HUGE water hazard. Hit it in the water and people are laughing...you get what I mean. But if you hit a perfect 4 iron with a small draw to a couple of yards people are cheering instead.

I have been playing Titleist AP2's for about 2,5 year and I really loved them. They were easy to hit and looked OK IMO. Then I bought my coach's MB 710's and thought I had made the deal of my life but hey, I could not hit these irons solid enough to shoot the lowest score of my life. But 1,5 week ago I found a set of Mizuno MP68's on the classifieds in Sweden and made an even better deal. I can not tell you guys how happy I am with my new irons.

The MP68's are as easy as the AP2's!!! So if you want to be a poser like me get the MP68's, they feel awesome and gives you the looks but are as easy as a GI iron... Let it be a secret between us! man_in_love.gif

It depends which part of the bag they are judging me on...

Either "this guy thinks he's better than he is" or "this guy can play" or "this guy likes things a little bit different, especially with that yellow ball!!!"

When you have a blue putter and yellow balls, I bet people don't know what to think sometimes.

I love when I see people with an old set of clubs that are well maintained, take my wife's for example. Taylormade 200 Series woods, Ping iSi irons, Cleveland 588 RTG wedges, she's been a player with those sticks for a while, and she trusts them!!! Now there is some new flash with the Redwood Zing putter and the White Cobra S3 just to prove she likes to keep up with the best tech, but really she just liked the look.

Taylormade M3 460 9.5*, Mitsubishi Kuro Kage Silver TiNi 60x
Tour Edge Exotics CB2 15* and 18*, Aldila Voodoo SNV8
Ping i210 4-PW, Nippon N.S. Pro Modus 105s
Ping Glide 2.0 50SS, 54WS, 58ES, DG S400 TI onyx
Scotty Cameron GoLo 3

Pretty much what I'd think too...and couldln't be farther from the truth. I've never been a big Cally fan. I took a few years off after my youngest children were born, and deciced to get back to playing this year. Out of these clubs, tthe only ones that were chosen because they were the clubs that suiteds me were the driver, 3w, and putter - the rest were found for dirt cheap, so I grabbed them up with every intention of unloading them if I don't care for the feel or how I play them;)

In the Wilson Exo II:
Driver - 2017 Taylormade M1
3 wood - 2016 Taylormade M1
7 wood - Callaway XR Steelhead Heavenwood
Irons Staff - Wilson C300 Forged 4-GW
Wedges - Cleveland RTX 4 54* / 58*
Putter - Wilson Staff Infinite Windy City

Great topic for us equipment junkies. I have been a club pro and a custom club builder. I have a unique prospective that impacts my view of others bags. It was fun playing with KZG blades years ago. I had a titleist driver, TM 3 wood, Cleveland wedges and my Cameron Mil-Spec. Once I played people probably changed there opinion of KZG. I have always been loyal to irons, 3 woods and putters so those are the first clubs I look at.

i look at peoples bags all the time working at a driving range. I find it also interesting to check out peoples shoes you can tell all kinds of things about anyone by looking at thier shoes

Back in high school, this was my wrestling coaches philosophy... anyone who had worn out, raggedy a** shoes was going to be serious competition for our team (state champions 2000!).

this is interesting. i have ap2s and a set of mp67s. i find them both fine but the ap2s easier to keep from hooking. i guess my question is were the mp68s and mp69s a more forgiving iron than the mp67s?

i tend to gravitate to the ap2 s for the moment of inertia effect more than forgiveness issues, but you did get me wondering. good post.

Learned my lesson at a muni years ago about spotting PLAYERS. I am on the first tee as a single and get paired with a young guy seems nice right out of college. He has a old Ping carry bag, Callaway driver steel shaft no FW's, irons were 845s an Eye2 SW and a blade putter. My first clue should have been when he has a new sleeve of Pro v1's he probably just bought in the pro shop. Second clue is he has all new grips
He striped it off the tee with a 2 iron most holes only using his driver a few times. He NEVER got into the deep rough, worked the ball right and left into pin positions missed a few greens but pitched or chipped within 3 ft everytime. I think he shot 2 over without breaking a sweat.
It was one of my more enjoyable days on a golf course and I lost $40.00.

Someone weigh in on mine:

Driver: Srixon Z-Star 9 deg, Miyazaki Dromos 61S shaft
3W: Srixon Z-Star, Miyazaki Dromos 61S shaft
3hybrid: Ping G10, DGS300 shaft
Irons: Ping ISI BeCu, 4-PW, Z-Z65 shafts
Wedges: Scratch 8620 53 deg and 58 deg
Putter: "Hoganardi" Big Ben 48" for now, or Dave Curry Big Oak Havana center-shaft, 34"
Ball: Varies. I've nearly run out of TM TP Reds, so I'm leaning Srixon simply because I like the bright yellow

Again: poser, fanboy, gamer, or other?

The wedges give it away. Vega, Miura, Chikara and the like are a rare sight in a sea of Callaway, Cleveland, and Vokey. I can't usually draw a conclusion about someone's ability based on having an unusual / "exotic" group of wedges like these, but what I would guess is that you're interested in equipment, so I'd be keen to chat about that a bit in between shots / holes and would probably ask if you'd ever heard of GolfWRX. cool.gif

Surprised no one has commented on this:
When I see younger guys with skills they usually have pretty new clubs, or a set that was obviously their dad's or grandpa's blades.
Older guys with skills usually have a pretty old set. Something they finally got used to and settled into for ten plus years. Older guys who are good almost never have new irons, and it's even more rare to see them with a new putter.
Younger players who are good are still playing the field before they settle on that lifelong putter.

This is a good thread. I have very old equipment in my gamer bag. Cleveland 588 wedges, mp32s, a superquad and four hybrids: bridgestone, sonartec and 2 taylormades. My driver is an old superquad but all my non irons have upgraded shafts. If anything, I'm sure some people chuckle at all the white grips.

At the end of the day, I don't judge by the equipment but rather their behavior and pace of play. I'm more interested in any advice that would make me a better player.
