One great aspect of the x forged irons has been the playability on the Maltby scale. The razr x forged had a rating of 605 placing it in the game improvement category. My mp-53's fall around 450 making them conventional.

Do we expect to see the same level of playability in the new x forged irons or will these be limited to the ball striking elite with a low single digit index or tour card?

No. These are actually even more forgiving than the Razr X Forged, based on player feedback. Ball speeds on mishits are higher for these than the previous generations. I think for folks that have gotten conditioned to the "forged aren't forgiving and therefore aren't for me," they will be really surprised by these. So don't rule them out if you fall into that category. But you won't know until you try them, of course.

Just as an anecdote, and I've mentioned this before, but I haven't had a forged iron as my everyday set in about 8 years (since the 690CB). And I think this will be my set in 2013 because they feel great, even on mishits (enough feedback to know where the impact was) and enough ball speed to keep the ball in the air when I don't hit it solidly. So I'm probably making a triumphant return to forged in 2013! And besides that, I think I just want total golf porn in my bag next year....

Very important aspect of iron feel to me and one reason I have your Razr X Musclebacks in the bag compared to a more perimeter weighted iron.

I'm in a minority with respect to "forgiveness" in irons. When I think of forgiveness for myself, I actually think of "how does it feel/sound when it's mishit?" THis is a minority because most people consider forgiveness as "how much distance do I lose when it's mishit?" Forgiveness = MOI, not feel in this latter case. I don't think of it that way, personally. Less than 10% of golfers think of forgiveness the way I do, so we're rare breeds. So for these, I think of X Forged as more forgiving not primarily because of where the ball goes when I miss hit, but because of the fact that I still know I mishit it, but it didn't make my hands bleed!

Of course "forgiveness" is different for drivers and fairways.

^^^ I am with ya on this Harry...I am more into the feel of the mis-hit...I want to know immediately when that happens, not necessary for it to shatter my hands in the process. Don't get me wrong, the less distance lost on the mis-hit is a bonus, and the designs now days allow for the max carry, least direction loss, on the bad shot more than ever before...BUT, I have to have the feedback.

There are few forged irons with too much badging or elastomer filled cavities that I can hit 5 balls, and 2 of them will be off enough to lose distance or direction, but I would never know till I see the flight or I see it land 10 yards short for some unexplained or unfelt reason.

Callaway hit a home run with this iron. I love the looks and the PXI shaft as the stock offering is phenomenal. I have been playing a set of Don White custom grind blades for the last 6 years and could never find anything to take their place until i saw these. I will have these day one.

I have been silently sitting back and just reading this post as it progresses. Long time love affair with forged irons, mostly Mizuno and Hogans, not since the X14's came out have I played Callaway irons. I have hit the X forged 09 and it was a great club but was playing MP 53's at the time and wasn't looking for a change. I was all hopped up about the new MP 64 until I saw and read about these, they will definetly be on the short list of clubs to test next year.

To the guys from Callaway that are contributing to this thread..........thank you. It is fantatistic to see such input and dedication on your part without the super hype of jet fueled this and compression slot that and then calling it a bladez, made me want to throw up.
I have been a Mizuno loyalist for years and have loved their irons. On the other end of the bag, I have always gamed Callaway woods. I came close to pulling the trigger on Callaway Irons when I got the Mizuno MP 53's, I just didn't see a Cally iron set that looked as good. The pics of these rival anything in the looks department that Mizuno has out. I can't wait to hit them.

Any chance we can get a pic of the iron at address from the guys at Callaway?

I KNEW THEY WERE GOING TO RUIN THEM BY ADDIND BADGES !!!!!!!!

They were perfect with NO badges.
they were, i dont mind the cally or the x but did they have to stamp "forged" like anyone who plays an iron of this caliber wouldnt know? they look great and probably feel great.

no need for me to take my mp-63's outta the bag yet.

Harry or any of the Callaway guys,
I have been wanting to pull the trigger on the razr X muscle back irons then the info on these was released... So my question is, will it be possible to get combo sets of the new X forged and the muscle backs through special order? 4-7 in the 2013 X forged and 8-pw in the muscle? Thanks in advance, I really appreciate that you guys come on here and post information and answer questions. Looking forward to the 2013 lineup from Callaway!!

Harry:

I think it is great what you and Callaway are doing. I change clubs frequently but the one staple in my bag has been my X-Protos. Had not even thought of a change until this thread came along.

The one question that I have is whether you all will start offering KBS C-Tapers in S+ flex? My understanding is that they are only available in S and X now. It seems to me that the S+ is a better fit for most of the crowd that would be interested in the new X Forged line.

Thanks for your participation in this great web page for us golf junkies.

Can someone confirm the type of finish on the new X forged. I would be interested in a combo set of x forged and the Razr X muscleback but the finishes look entirely different in the pictures. Not sure I want shiny chrome on half of my set and satin chrome on the rest.

Maybe Callaway_HarryA can confirm for us. Not sure why they would start producing shiny chrome irons now if they have been producing satin for quite a few years now. That would make a mess of a combo set with two different finishes.

My neighbor is moving and just dropped off a whole bunch of his home micro brew so I'm sitting here trying to catch up on my backlogs of Boardwalk Empire. I'm not sure how you guys keep up your stamina on this site....I digress...

The X Forged is sort of neither satin nor chrome. How's that for an answer?! At address, you'll see it as a muted satin, reducing glare, etc. But the back of it is kind of a blend of chrome with satin accents. It's hard to describe. You'll just have to see it I guess.

The Marketing Warrior Princess in the office has described it as if "you pimped out your ride in a classy way." Not sure how "classy" and "pimp" go together but she actually nailed it, I think.
