Settled for the 15 as i already have the 18.....Next time.

My buddy turned me on to single malt scotch a few weeks ago. So far I have tasted Oban 14 and Dalwhinnie 15. Both have a very good taste to me. What do you guys think of these two scotches?

i don't believe dalwhinnie hasn't been mentioned yet, and i haven't had any yet myself. what did it taste like in comparison to the oban?

I would say Dalwhinnie has more of lighter, fruiter flavor than Oban.

"Won" a silent auction basket at a fundraiser this weekend with Laphroaig 10 and Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or for $150. Hey, it was for the kids!

Also had four nice rounded/tapered glasses and a cool neoprene ice cube tray that makes 6 of those jumbo cubes... but of course I just [i][b]can't[/b][/i] use those (although I will admit I did throw one in my first Laph).

Let us know how the Nectar Dor goes. I had a taste before but was already too drunk to form an opinion, what a waste. I still have one, I think it only comes in 12year old at least mine says 12 years old. I haven't gotten around to opening it. For some reason the drinking buddies are on a vodka kick going on a month now.

I have a story to share. The other night, I came home from a long day at work. My wife had been out with friends that evening. When I walked in the door, they were all hanging out I saw the bottle of Balvenie Caribbean Cask I had just recently picked up in my wife's hand as she was free pouring it into a glass of OJ. I looked at the bottle and there was maybe a few ounces left. Apparently, they thought that it was rum and were commenting on the off taste. I was in a state of unbelievable shock. I did keep my cool but had a sad feeling in my gut for the rest of the night. I now hide my good scotch and leave a cheap blend out for "company" - unless someone is over that can appreciate it.

Anyone else have other war stories of their lost soldiers?

Adding insult to injury is that the greatness of the CC was lost on them as well. Perhaps a moderately iced dram may have even converted one or two of them!

I hear ya. I'm still in the final stage. There's a hole in my soul that will take a long time to heal. I wake up with nightmares of a comrade in arms going down in such an undignified manner. His brother were not available at the time but I was able to get one of his cousins to toast my goodbyes the next day. Macallan 12 and I had a quite ceremony the next night.

I haven't had the pleasure to try this one but Macallan scotches are usually my favorites or go to scotches. I've heard mixed reviews on this one. What are your thoughts on the ruby?

Yes! Leave it to good ol Cardy to bump this thread! We're two months or so away from prime single malt scotch season, and I've got a new doozy for you fellow SMS lovers:

Auchentoshan American Oak. Triple Distilled Single Malt Scotch aged in first fill Bourbon casks.

A smooth first kick followed by a velvet subtle vanilla with a worth-pondering pleasant finish. Let it linger before diving back in. Take in everything you might like about bourbon and take out everything you might hate about bourbon and you get this masterpiece. My new go to. At $27/bottle hard to pass up.

I've heard that scotch is good. Haven't tried it yet. Unfortunately, alcohol is very expensive here in Ontario. LCBO has a monopoly on booze. Only place we can buy it and is owned by the Gov't. Cheapest SMS is $40. Auchentoshan is $55 here.
