I bought a bottle after hearing great things but it was too peaty/smoky...not sure how to describe it but it wasn't for me.

 

I think I like the mainstream boring stuff. Glenfiddich 15 is my go to.

Laga16 I great stuff.. One of my "got to's" but Oban 18 is my current go to.

Compared to some of the others the Laga is a little too smokey for my taste. He will give Oban a try next.

Had a nice scotch to kick off Christmas dinner at the inlaws.

Glennsomething. Was nice, washed down some prosciutto, lard bread, stuffed shrooms and like 4 kinds of cheese with it.

Then vino for the rest of the meal. Manicotti, pork, root veg (*art food , artichokes.

Oof

Then after dessert, had some Chivas and more Glennsomething. Scotch. So good.

Now, diet ; )

Hard to beat the Macallan 12 for the price. It's my go-to for an everyday sipper.

 

On a side note, I picked up a bottle of Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso Cast Strength today. Can't wait to give it a try.

Don't forget Glen Breton Canadian whisky...we had to fight the darned Scots to call it Glen. But fight them we did!

I'm a fan of Canadian whisky....but Glen Breton is horrible. And Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye is NOT the best whisky in the world...it is average Canadian whisky at best. Wiser's 18 yr, Wiser's Legacy, Lot 40, Ninety Decades of Richness 20 year, Masterson's Rye, Whistlepig Rye are some of the best Canadian whisky out these.

People are buying regular Crown Royal all day now because they think it's the greatest Whisky in the world. It's fairly hilarious

I've had Glen Breton a few times. But only because my favorite restaurant me and my wife go to has it. I'm usually half in the bag when i order it due to all the wine at dinner. I remember it being OK, but like i said i've never had it fully sober

It is selling off the shelves here in Ontario. Murray helped CR push this out big time. I wonder if this will lead to a gingerale shortage?

I remember this being my first Irish. In Canada 10 years ago this was under $40...now it's double that.

I just got started into the scotch world a few months ago. The first bottle I tried was a blended, JW Black. Good, but had a weird after taste. I then picked up a Glenlivet French 15, and now I'm thinking the JW Black is pretty inferior in comparison. I also tried a Deanston 12, which I liked a lot.

Dont become a single malt snob.

 

JW Black is good scotch.

 

Other night, I started with Black, had dinner, wine, then a couple of good, neat single malts after dinner.

I bought a bottle of JW black a few years ago as a spur of the moment duty free purchase. Was thinking of giving it as a gift but...instead I got desperate.

You see I have a hard time buying booze full price as I'm regularly at duty free shops. But recently I haven't been able to get my duty free deals; and so I decided to crack this one...

Not bad, not my fave but it's easy to drink and I like that. It's a little pricey for it to be an every day scotch (I'm not made out of money you know). I might get another but this time actually gift it!

BTW...my all time favorite blend is Monkey Shoulder. Goddamn that good stuff!
