One of my local stores must have a new pricer working. Best group of stuff I've seen in a long time. Prices were still good if I was looking for clubs to play or flip, but not cheap enough to buy "just because" so I had to pass.

I've never been offered a coupon here, just a tax receipt. Probably for the best though, I didn't need any new clubs (although the g2's would bring back some good memories for me).

99 cents at GW for Acushnet Bulls Eye W-FL 5 S, which is a wide flange brass putter with sound slot, featuring the really nice original leather paddle grip.

I picked these up this week. The Lovett wedge and the Walter Hagen putter were $2.97 at a Goodwill.

Am I missing something? Probably. But is the putter related to the Warren Report? There are collectors of EVERYTHING out there: the good, the bad, and the ugly, and the horrific. If your item is somehow legitimately connected to something famous or infamous, you're in.

This isn't quite the same as walking into goodwill it was however from their online site. I always check for books on shopgoodwill.com and they also have some ebay account for various goodwill stores in different cities. I just got this today when I got home from work. It is "Pete Dye Golf Courses Fifty Years of Visionary Design". I got it for $8.95. I opened it up and on the title page I found this.....

 

 

Have found quite a few golf books signed by the author over the years. Some notable like Tommy Armour and Ken Venturi and others less so.

 

Have found lots of out of print, original and/or international books that have been invaluable.

 

Getting instruction directly from Arnie's primer on grip to

Bobby Locke's putting routine, setup, stroke & techniques

to Seve Ballesteros' bunker and recovery setup/methods are doctorial/post-doc golf instruction not to be missed.

 

While golf travel is too easy to find, golf architecture is also present. Have found gems Doak, RTJ, Ross Society and Tillinghast. Know the logic and tendencies the architect used to design the hole then playing the course becomes a bit easier.

I'm thinking again about building one for my office... the metal one I have is about 3" too wide to fit beside my credenza, so I'm thinking about building JUST the center divider so it can float side-to-side and make the most use of the space I have.

I recommend you build one yourself. I built a wooden one a long time ago but moved and decided to sell it but I always took great pride in it.

So I joined this forum just so I could post on this thread. A couple of months back I googled Goodwill golf finds, and this popped up, and motivated me to get out, and give it a try. My first time out I found a set of Titleist DCI 981's 3-PW, but missing the 5 iron, decided what the hell I'll find the 5 on the bay, and at $1.96 a club what do I have to lose. Well a couple of weeks later I found a matching 5 iron at a completely different GW. So a full set of irons for under $30!

Ever since then I have been hooked, but this past week has been very good for my finds. It started last Wednesday when I found a very nice Titleist carry bag for $6, feeling cocky I visited the GW next to my office the next day, and found a Cleveland TA 588 56 degree for $1.96. Riding this wave I went to the GW next to my house on Saturday, and found another carry bag, this time a Ping Hoofer in great condition for another $6. Thinking I couldn't possibly score again I pushed my luck, and went on my lunch break yesterday, and found a carry bag with the motherload; TaylorMade Rac OS irons (GREAT CONDITION) 3-PW, TaylorMade Burner driver, TaylorMade R588 Driver, Adams Insight Hydrid, Odessey White Hot putter, a full set of knockoffs, and the kicker is they were all in a nice Ogio bag. I didn't piece this together they had it all stuffed in one bag for the staggering total of $28!!!!!! I didn't have to think twice, but the real shame is they have 3 Cleveland TA7 irons (6,7,9) in the bin, and I can't get anyone who works there to check for the rest of the set. I will try and post some pictures in the coming days.

Not exactly sure what I found here but seemed to be worth the $12 risk for what looks to be more or less a Ping BeBu clone from Slazenger. Shaft bands seem to indicate the model is "Royal Panther BC" and they are "Made in England" but that's it in terms of markings. I assume the "BC" is referring to Beryllium Copper. They seem to be solid, not plated, based on a handful of small gouges that don't seem to reveal a base metal underneath. I shined up the sole of the SW with a bit of WD40 and scotchbrite because I was out of Brasso and they did shine up quite brilliantly other than a few normal dings. I tried a little chipping/pitching up the stairs with the SW and they felt extremely soft compared to my carbon steel Cleveland wedges. I was able to pickup 3-9 and Sw but no Pw. 3/8 have been re-shafted, and at different times through the set's life it seems (one with a TT Lite, another with a "True Flex ABC"). If the storm passes tomorrow I'll probably grab a bottle of Brasso or Bar Keeper's Friend and go to town on shining up the rest. Depending on how they turn out I may even throw a set of DG S300 in them and play them a round or two as well.

Before you scrub the heck out of them, try soaking them in white vinegar, you can even dilute it. That will get your copper (or brass) to shine easy. Lemon juice is good too. Add salt to either if you want to scrub a bit.
