What I found odd. (With reasons why)

1) Why not go with the new X Utility. (Could be because he hits that to far also)
2) Why no go with the new X Forged irons. (Is it because he wants a traditional MB blade?)

The rest seems ok. I suspect with the new anticipateted wedges coming out mid 2013 he would switch to those.

I think the old X utility hits lower than the new one too - more like a driving iron than utility iron.

I was just thinking the same thing, the old one does not have the "C-Grind" and appears to have a high CG, which is more like his old 503i 2-iron. The newer X-Utilities are designed to get the ball up easier.

He needs a blade. He'd hit moon balls with the Cavities. I also found it very odd that he's hitting the old utility rather than the new one. I found it very odd that he hasn't put the Callaway wedges in the bag yet. That would be the first change I made. Callaway wedges are the bees knees!!!

I think in one of the earlier WITB threads, he was messing with a CS GoLo. Can't remember which tournament. Maybe he's just looking for something "easier".

Here's a collage of pics I put together on the Tour Truck yesterday when they were building Gary's steel shafted 3 wood. (tipped 3")

Pretty crazy stuff, but he liked how it performed and the distance it gave him.

I read some information and saw a video that describes why this Cally FW is so hot. When Cally built these, the legal limit that the ball could stay on the clubface was 254. This is known as CT or characteristic time. These FWs were coming in at 300, a super hot face. Cally dialed it down to 250, the hottest of any fairway on the market. As an example, everyone was talking about how hot the Adams SuperXTD, both in FW and hybrids, are. The CT for both of these were in the 230s. Now you have an idea just how hot these things are.

If Harry or anyone at Cally has one of those original FWs with a CT of 300 lying around, PM for my address. :)

Awesome pics and info, thanks guys. Slightly surprised he went with the OG Utility and a Two Ball. Any info on his GD shafts? I think it was posted previously they are 90 gram shafts.

I posted something like this in one of the threads before, but I didn't list the numbers they came back with because I wasn't sure if they wanted them known or not. Doc Hock told us they kept the letter from the approval board stating the numbers just so they could prove what they were able to do.

Rumor has it, the only place to find these heads is the the bag of one Rodger Cleveland.

A little off topic here, but it always boils my water when I see something like that 18U. A club that was nearly impossible to get when it was in the tour authentic line. Now it IS impossible to get other than the very rare Ebay listing.

Why couldn't Callaway keep an ongoing Tour Authentic line up? They wouldn't have to keep much stock and they could charge outrageous prices if they want. People would STILL buy the old utility club, the old C grind wedges with conforming grooves, the 2007 x forged iron with conforming grooves, etc. Argh!!!!!!!

Wow, first of all it sounds like the new fairway is seriously hot. Second of all Gary Woodland is a beast tipping a steel shaft 3" is seriously stiff. I'm actually surprised more of the long hitters aren't hitting steel in the FW's.. especially on the rock hard fairways they play. Talk about being able to hit some stingers.

Yea they aren't charging outrageous pricing though... the re-sellers are which is the issue. If they re-issued these I bet about 10% of their accounts would buy them and if the prices went up it would be even less.... A club like that is a niche product and is perfectly served in the limited market. You know how many calls I have gotten for the new Callaway Utility Iron? 0. Multiple calls for G25 hybrid demos, TM Stage 2 Demos and a couple calls for the new Callaway X-Hot line but that club is and will always be a niche club. Same with the 712u or Mizuno Fli-Hi etc... just the nature of those style clubs.

Tipping a FW 3" isn't that big of a deal, especially if it's x100. I played a FW tipped 2" with X100 and found it very whippy, plus spun too much. Tipped it another .75" and voila! I'm guessing the headweight on the xhot is in the 212gm range. IIRC, something like every extra 10gms of headweight needed an extra 1" of tipping to play true to flex...

God Bless

If they would set up a long driving competition between the brands Callaway would have a strong team in Woodland, Holmes and Quiros. :D Wouldnt that be a very amusing thing, and a great opportunity to promote the brands!
