No. Money can't buy happiness.
Yep sounds like a cliche but it happens to be true.

There have been many studies that prove that AFTER basic needs are met, additional money adds very little to a person's overall happiness level.

In other words, a person who makes $50,000 a year is MUCH happier than a person who makes $5,000 a year - but a person who makes $5 million a year is not all that much happier, relatively speaking, than the person who makes $50,000.

The most pleasurable thing in life is doing an activity one enjoys - not buying things. There are 2 activities at the top of my list, one is free and the other (golf) isn't all that expensive.

Oh and I wouldn't give up my other favorite activity for a million bucks either! :derisive:

I love golf, but if someone dropped a tax free cool mil of non sequential $100 bills in my lap....

...I would never, ever look back. Sorry guys.

I can still fish, ski and play music.

+1
There are many, many, many things to do, besides golf, to get the same enjoyment you get out of golf, plus you'd have money to pursue those hobbies.

This question is flawed because we are all in different financial situations.

Still can't believe how many on this board would give up the game...I feel like we must be playing a different game or you're doing it wrong or something. LOL!

I hear alot of people in this thread describing golf as a hobby, and while golf definitely is a hobby, one of the things I love about it (and one reason I'd never give up the game for a million bucks) is the sport, or the competition, aspect of it. Don't get me wrong, I love to go out late in the day and play a quick nine by myself, but there aren't too many things that I like to compete in more than golf.

Plus, it's one of the few sports in which you can compete and drink beer at the same time. :drinks:

I am surprised at how many poor people are on this board. A another million just goes into the checking account and doesn't change you life. 10 million at least makes the discussion interesting.

You will notice that the three extra interests that I listed fall into this category, as well. haHA!!

I respect your opinion, but I have to assume that actually seeing a million bucks in cash might very well sway that opinion. Who knows...

What the hell would I do with the million? Lawn darts?

Golf or die baby!!

Maybe a billion.... MAYBE
here's what i'd do with a billion:

buy a golf course, allow people to move their balls out of fairway divots, call it "galf"....and then i'm all set

people couldn't say i am violating the rules of the agreement. I've seen it written many times that if you are moving balls out of divots you are not playing by the rules of golf. Therefore you are not playing golf.....Galf on the other hand allows you to do these things

Srixon ZX 15 w/PX Hzrdus Red 70

I would give up golf and pick a game where I hit a little ball around a giant field and see how many time it would take to get from point A to point B.
That's a good one! Just throw in a mulligan on the front and back and then it wouldn't even be called golf anymore. Then, there's always practice at the range. You're not actually "playing" golf then, either.

In a heartbeat ... love the game but can easily transition to new interests.
It's not a lot of coin in the big picture but ... since I play so much golf, my wife will probably divorce me anyway. The cool million would cover the cost of the proceedings with money left over for a fishing boat, scuba gear, bad a** Harley, couple of sweet vacations, and a new girlfriend. Hell, I might even get her a new set of ... golf clubs!

I'm getting to the point in my life where there's a lot less in front than there is behind, so I have the luxury of getting a different take on stuff like money, BS from others (mine's fine, btw!), material cr*p etc and I get a handle on what's important and irreplaceable. After family, golfing with friends is top of the list, and no amount of money could tear me away. As far as a legacy for the generation to come after me, as long as they are smart, well educated and learn to keep a sense of proportion then they will do just fine with or without some mythical 10 to the power of 6 bucks/pounds or whatever.
