73g Harrison Saga in a Wishon 949MC. I play the stiff untipped, and it works great for my girlish figure.

75g stiff 14.5* TM tp GD Purple Ice
How would cutting down a driver shaft 74g from the butt 43.5" originally to about 42" installed into a 5 wood head perform? Has anyone done this and liked it?

Well, assuming that shaft was once 46" and cut down to that length that shaft cut to 42" is going to prob be like 60-65g range once cut all the way. So its going to play light.

I'm not set between 17* hybrid or 16* fairway for this season yet, but the fairway has an iRod 85 Counter Balanced. It's about 82 grams cut. This particular shaft is X, but I'm not tied to X in general. FWIW the hybrid shaft is a V2 81 X made-for Nickent and more like 75 grams cut, and a great made-for BTW.

Edit; Back to steel. FST Pro White stiff, tipped to whatever it is now. 90 grams cut.

Currently have a G-series 90 stiff in a G20 4 wood (I know you were asking for 3 wood shafts but this is my "3" wood). SS ~106 with a driver and a quick tempo. I actually prefer 80g shafts though. Have a G-series 80 stiff and a D+ 82 stiff to try next.

I was in a HD10, then a HD9, now an Attas 8X. It was always about control and as I am becoming more and more comfortable going after my 3w from the deck I'm dropping to lighter shafts to increase speed. I think I've found my happy place in the mid-80g range though. The DI6 and DI7 I tried were just too light and not consistent enough for my ball striking ability (or lack there of).

Honestly, not really. I have it weighted to d5 so to me it doesnt feel how one would imagine. I feel it's live at the tip and solid/stable thru swing.

The NV 85 is my go to fairway shaft but I really like the RIP Alpha 80 I've tried in a few heads. Just picked up a tour SQII 15* that's very heavy so I'm going to try a RIP 70x tipped 1.25" to help balance the heavy head weight. My SQII retail head NV85 is in the bag with the T60 BB83x and V-steel Vista Pro 90x always close at hand. Driver SS 113-115, quick tempo and boardy/stout feels stable/controlled to me. Hope that helps...

Thx all. Sounds like most in mid 80 above range have SS greater than 105+.

Wonder how much a difference 6 grams really makes. Part of me says get 85, but I think 79 is more for me. I can hit my 3 wood around Max 250 yarda on a pure shot so not a big hitter.
It may only be 6 grams, but its percentages. Your looking at a 7-10% increase in weight. Translate that into a potential 7-10% decrease in swing speed and/or distance. Although, for some the added weight may be slower but improves tempo and ball striking consistancy, thus maintaining or even improving distance with accuracy. Just depends what helps the club find the ball.

Used to play a PX Blue Graphite 83g 6.5 but was too stiff, so ended up with high fades with a lot of spin, so now playing a PX Blue Graphite 82g 6.0 which is perfect.
I got Diamana D+ White 62 XS in my driver.

Diamana Kai'li 70 series - 71 grams. I've transitioned towards lighter shafts in the past couple of years, it has helped my tempo and consistency.

Anyone know how much weight is lost per inch cut on a shaft.

ie 46" the weight is 79, what would it be when cut to 43" for 3 wood. do people account for this when determining shaft weight ?
Well, the butt end usually has more material per incriment than the tip, so it should be slightly heavier. I used to just go with the overall gram weight divided by the length in inches (as long as it's not a tip heavy bimatrix or WilsonStaff half-and-half). Most of the shafts I have worked with have been very close to the 2 to 2.5 grams per inch range, and for me that number has usually come out very close to cut weight.

That 79 gram shaft at 46" is roughly 1.7 gram per inch. So at say, 42" cut that should play in the 72 gram range + or - . If it is actually 79 grams, and ends up being 42" cut, of course. I finally bought a small scale and now I just weight them, but I was surprised how close I was when just estimating.
