Augusta tix on eBay WARNING

Bit of a moot point at the moment but just thought I’d put this up as a heads up. I sold my ANWA tix on eBay a while back before the covid postponement. A few days later got a letter in the mail from ANGC saying they saw I sold my tickets through a 3rd party and they were cancelling the credentials and banning me from all ticket lotteries going forward. I did not put any identifying info in the listing or pix so no idea how they knew it was me.

so just word to the wise before you sell Augusta tix on eBay (or buy seeing as how they voided the tix issued to me).

Without knowing what the Masters tickets look at, there are probably numbers or barcode that is associated with you.

I bet the eBay buyer contacted Augusta wondering how to get tickets for a possible new date. Augusta probably looked at the original owner and you got busted.

Contacting the club is a possibility but this all happened (sale,letter,refund) before any postponement was announced. Not trying to dog Augusta, just saying be careful where you buy and sell their tix.

How much did you mark them up?

Paid 150 sold for 500. Figured it was reasonable as it was hundreds lower than any other listing I saw at the time

Nothing against the OP or capitalistic supply and demand at all but I am very glad ANGC is doing this. I hope they track down every single person selling for profit and ban them all. I have been t Augusta many times living just 2 hours away and what has happened in the last 10 years with the tickets and gouging is reprehensible. It needs to stop. Again, I do not know the situation of the OP and not an indictment to him but there are too many people setting up multiple accounts through every relative they have just to win the lottery and then sell at crazy prices.

No offense taken. First time ever getting tix to Augusta and had every intention of going but a new baby changed my plans. Saw the going rate, listed them for less, and wound up with nothing. I guess I should have sold them back to the club but live and learn.

Mainly posted this as a buyer beware in case you snag tickets that turn out to be voided.

Not trying to antagonize and I’m personally neutral on the subject but the prices on the secondary market are entirely ANGC’s fault. They suppress supply which drives up demand. If they didn’t want this to be an issue they could gave walk up tix like the open. I guess my situation is a way to discourage, but it’s a problem of their own making.

They pinch more people for this than you might think.

Having been there I don't think they suppress supply. The place is pretty full and I don't see how they could reasonably have more people on the grounds for the tournament. Every event has a capacity limit and don't sell tickets above that.

Since the tix is voided by ANGC, do you have ro refund the buyer?

Yea, i cancelled the eBay sale which returns all the money and fees.

On a somewhat related topic, I have always wanted to know what the protocol is for refunds of resold tickets when an event gets cancelled. Does the original ticket retailer (Ticketmaster, or ANGC in this case) automatically refund the original buyer? If the tickets are resold on ebay, lets just say 4 months before event is cancelled, does the 2nd buyer have any means to get a refund from the ebay reseller?

Augusta is being facetious about this and I applaud you for your heads up. On the main drag there, people set up tents to sell tickets and they should go after those guys rather than somebody like you. Same people that busted the young girl for slow play couple of years back.

I was there last year at the ANWA and it was an awesome experience.

Appreciate the heads up - colleague of mine, actually the CEO of two companies I've worked at, has agonized annually about dropping 20k on a master's trip - doing it up, you know? Never pulled the trigger. This year, he gets the dream offer: private jet there and back, a room at a house mere blocks from ANGC with chef and booze, tickets for the entire week - your basic corp boondoggle, all comp.

Dude is heartbroken. Me too, he was going to gear me up. I've been and hooked him up with gear, was time to return the favor. Hell, I couldn't wait to hear the stories, that's the kind of thing my liver may never recover from.

Thanks, just don’t want anyone getting burned. I was pumped to go to the anwa but bringing a 7 month old wasn’t feasible, plus only being allowed 2 tix and Augusta requiring the baby to have a ticket, no strollers, etc made it too much for my wife and I to go down.

Originally from WI but the UP in my sn refers to where I live in MD now. That’s a real bummer for your buddy. Not quite the same, but a friend of mine had been trying for years and actually got Sunday tix this year. Hopefully the October rumors are true and they honor everyone’s April tix.

thats what I said. I’ve been on Saturday of 2014 And Tuesday 2018 and it was totally packed.

People seem to be misconstruing what I meant here. Granted I probably chose the wrong words for an Internet forum, but they only allow tickets to be purchased through a random lottery which is limiting access to tickets ie suppressing supply. I’m not saying the regular Ticketmaster way of selling would be a solution, but their policies make it difficult to buy tickets legitimately and create an air of exclusivity that all add up to increased demand, thus the higher prices you see on the secondary market. Again, not knocking them. It’s their event they can handle every detail as they see fit. I was just responding to other posters deriding the prices/sellers on the secondary market.

I think people selling and buying on the secondary market are aware of the risks. It's up to you if you want to roll the dice. ANGC is quite vigilant with their product, which is their own choice.

I would argue their way increases access to more people. The lottery prevents someone from buying up big blocks of tickets vs companies like Tickemaster, Stubhub, etc allow such block purchases and which are known to cooperate with scalpers.
