Is Sky Caddie worth it?

Had a few models way back when (last one was SG5 model, or something like that) subscription was annoying, and since most courses have GPS built in now, unless you're walking and phone app insufficient, might be one of few available options. GolfLogix app works close enough.

I have an SX500. I was a laser guy forever but I transitioned to the SX500 and find it useful in hitting more greens rather than firing at the stick yardage.

Yes, it is worth it. I just renewed my subscription today. I’ve had several different models of Skycaddies, liked them all. Once purchased, they typically include a one year plan. Always helpful for new courses as well. When I go to golf, I put my phone up. I don’t want to deal with calls and texts when I’m trying to get a yardage.

I'm currently a laser guy, but my laser is having problems. I've had 2 sky caddies back in the day, and both had the same battery issue after one season and the customer service was terrible for a unit costing $300+ dollars. No replacements, just $100 off a new unit.

Have you had experience with this in the newer models? Phone apps are free, or very cheap and basically do the same thing as a sky caddie, that's why i'm wondering if it's worth it to go back to it.

I have a sky caddie and a laser that I use. When using the sky caddie to a back flag I check yardage to the back edge and hit the club I know cannot be long. Normally end up pin high. To middle flag yardage to the back and either end up pin high or just past the flag, but on the green. Front flag hit club to center yardage and very rarely come up short. To me this tool is definitely worth to purchase and can improve your game if you find a way for it to work for you.

I have a laser and a GPS watch. Years ago when Skycaddie first came out I bought one. Back then they weren't that accurate. Maybe it was the unit or maybe satellites weren't that great then. Anyway my watch gives good adequate readings when compared to my laser. With all the competition in GPS units I fail to see what advantage I would get by purchasing a Skycaddie and then paying a subscription fee.

Not worth it to me better free alternatives once you make the purchase, GPS watch, rangefinders, etc.

For a cheap sky caddie model and $30 a year, I think it is worth it.

I just don’t see how they can justify the subscription when there seem to be so many good options out there from other brands when there is no annual subscription. For me, I am mainly a laser guy but I also have a little Bushnell Neo Ghost GPS for front, middle and back distances which gives me the best of both worlds I reckon.

I have a SX500, got a $100 off deal over the holidays so I felt it was with it. I don't mind the minimal subscription fee. Knowing the courses were walked and mapped, gives me confidence in the info.

I like the shot distance tracking to help get the distances of my clubs. The ability to move your target and get the distance is useful. I think a lot of the free apps have upgraded pay levels you can get sucked into just as well.

I used to have the subscription and now I use the GPS on my watch and a laser. Good to know front middle back as well as pin. Paying for a unit and subscription don't make sense and rangefinders now aren't nearly as expensive as they used to be. Ditch the sky caddie

You may like the Bushnell Wingman? I believe the app is free with the unit + a built in speaker.
