2019 Premium Ball Woes

Guy, Tiger likes Bridgestone. Go with Bridgestone. Be like Tiger. Go out there and roar. The 2019 balls are all great and you're not a Tour Pro (like Tiger) so I'm thinking you're being a hair too critical in your perception. But, it is your money and it is your game, so, far be it for me to even comment.

Cut 2019 models look good, too. But, I play off 18 so, what do I know?

Bridgestone Tour BX is really really good.

 

As long or longer than everything you mentioned. Softer feeling than all but the chrome soft, which it is MUCH longer than (for me).

 

It has great spin from 50 and in and holds up a bit better than the ProV1, and MUCH better than the TP5X.

hmmmm.....2018 Chrome Soft and 2018 TP5 are pretty similar to me. "Heavy" feeling balls that work well in the short game and have a nice mid flight.

 

The 2018 Chrome Softs last forever i find. I have some that i have played 3-4 rounds and they look brand new. But the TP5 has been no slouch either at least for me.

 

I do think they last longer than the Pro V1....but either way if you NEVER lose balls and play 1 ball per round each time. Even if they scuff you've got pretty small problems.

Either Z Star model is next, yes. Both are outstanding. I see the XV mentioned here a lot. That ball is explosive off my driver. Really goes. The new model is plenty soft off the irons, though. Been playing through a couple dozen Z Stars and they are the best all-around ball for me I've ever played.

I've played the Z-Star (2017) quite a bit, it is pretty soft feeling, which I like a lot. Cover is very durable. But I learned from a TXG video that ball speed off the driver was 5mph slower with Z-Star compared to PV1x. This is for someone with ~118ss, so your results may vary, if you're a low swing speed player then the differences would be less - but we all know no one on WRX had ss under 115 so...

I find the feel of the Z-Star very similar to Chromesoft and TM Project a.

I have found the TM TP5 and TP5x to be very good in the wind, good feel, decent greenside spin (but less then PV1)

I went through some extensive ball testing this winter and spring,18' TP5x, 18' TP5, Snell MTB-X, 19' TP5, 19' ProVx. I'd tried the Tour B XS last year and loved it off the wedges and putter but didn't love it with the driver. I found it to be spinny and short compared to other options, including the B330S that it replaced. I think it's probably a good ball for guys with a good positive AoA with the driver but that's not me.

 

On a whim I snagged a box of the Bridgestone Tour B X's. Didn't like the way they felt putting and chipping but decided to try them since I had $45 sunk into it. They are excellent off the tee and very good with the irons. They are firmer off both but the performance is well worth it. It did take me a while to get used to the firmer feel with the putter and wedges but I'm just about there. I use a Spider Tour and found these firm, so not sure how much firmer they would feel with a non-insert or blade putter. The big difference is I just don't seem to hit many terribly wild shots. Not sure if that's mostly me with a little help from the ball but when I tried another ball recently (MTB-X) I wasn't quite as accurate as I'd been with the B X. Plenty of spin when you nip it right and I've had no issue backing balls up inside 130 yards. It's a great ball and the quality control is as good as anything else out there for a little extra peace of mind.

I play 3-6 times a week year around in all weather and feel that Srixon has the most durable ball. Pretty much any ball I use shows wear after 18 hole.

Should look into Snell MTB Black and Vice Pro or Pro+.

I have tried them all, but Bridgestone B XS is the best for me. Great feel, a little longer, best ball I've ever played inside 100yds, great in the wind, and VERY durable... But with golf balls one man's trash is one man's treasure
