MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

Snedeker has a 4-2 RC record, I dont know that counts as "part of all the losing".

Also would somewhat disagree that WS is a pure bombers course. Obviously it depends on how they set it up for the RC but it is very easy to get in real trouble off the tee on most holes. I actually think its going to be a great match play course.

I'd love it if I was the one guy with JT for this thing. That's all pretty solid picks.

So I watched Ep 1 of the new NLU Carolinas season at Secession but I guess I never watched the trailer. Man they are playing a ton of great courses.

(i said this to a few other guys last night)

But, they go to Secession golf course. I thought "eh, that's kind of a weird name". It's not exactly flying the confederate flag, but also, come on.

So, the website says, "While the formal definition of the word “secession” refers to “the action of withdrawing formally from membership of a federation or body, especially a political state,” our Club chose its name, its crossed flags logo, and the manner by which we conduct our affairs to reflect and embrace an altogether different meaning. "

"“Secession,” David said, “represents an opportunity for our members to secede from the pressures of their everyday lives and for the Club itself to secede from what golf clubs have become. "

Oh. Give me a break.

Oh, that must be why you called your tees, "Buddha" and "Henry David Thoreau" because the club is all about throwing away the trappings of life.

Oh, they're actually named after Civil War generals?

GTFO with that.

Just in case you weren't sure these guys aren't completely full of crudola, NEXT TO THE PARAGRAPH ABOUT THE NEW MEANING OF SECESSION, they have a picture of the Milton Maxcy Secession house. What does this have to do with the golf course? Well, absolutely nothing. This is just a picture of the house where the plans for Secession from the Union were laid out. Not where Southern men of leisure got together to discuss seceding from the rigors of daily life.

Their flag logo is the first national confederate flag -- the actual "stars and bars", not the controversial confederate battle flag. But, the "crossed flags" symbol is also associated with the confederacy. They claim -- again, this is completely laughable -- that a founder of the Secession club got the idea for the crossed flags after a trip to Royal Dornoch where he "observed the crossed U.S. and Scottish Lion Rampant flags at the top of the Carnegie Shield."

The only thing worse than these guys forming a club based on confederate iconography is their complete cowardice in actually owning it. Pretty much right in line with what I'd expect from such gentlemen.

That place will never see a dime of my money.

Thank God you said that, I was worried you would start driving to random private clubs in bum-F South Carolina and spending a lot of money. So, that's a good clarification.

Lets be clear, this is also not going to devolve into some sort of quasi-political discussion either, as much as I'm sure City would like that.

I like how they advertise Secession as a links style golf course and when they ask the superintendent what the biggest challenge is with the club, he goes, "drainage".

Yeah, that's what I think of when I think of links golf. . .their ongoing issues with drainage.

The approach shots over water with fairways that end abruptly at water hazards is really linksy too. I bet if you asked one of these guys what made their course links style, they'd go, "well we eat a lot of sausage." If by some miracle of nature, you found a member whose axons weren't clogged with lard, he might be able to string enough random sounds in order to create an utterance such as, "well. . .it's flat."

I'd love to join a course that was walking only, laid back, no phones, great porch, no real estate. I love ALMOST every thing about that club.

I just don't get that fired up over their hypocrisy. The "call-out culture" and "cancel culture" has gotten out of hand, for me. But I totally recognize people have issues with the theme. Anyway.

The course looks really cool and awesome. I'd play it for sure.

Here's a good nugget about their bunkers from Graylyn Loomis:

Those bunkers look pretty cool, I had heard they bought the turf from a company that sells old soccer pitches to courses that are installing these kinds of bunkers?

I thought the NLU guys handled it well. They acknowledged it without making a big deal about it and without sugar coating it. I may be confusing the podcast with the video.

Same with the president's course they played in Ireland. I thought they were just going to ignore it but they expressed their personal reservations without dwelling it, but then talked about how the people there were so happy that he bought the course because it saved the course and community.

I started watching their stuff for the first time recently. I expected them to be a bunch of self-absorbed naval gazing idiots. I've been pleasantly surprised.

From the Secession Members only website that I hacked:

"Thought we advertised our EcoBunkers as a call back to our past, in reality, we have patterned them exactly as the earthworks from the Battle of Petersburg in the War of Northern Aggression. To look upon them, It is heartening to know that so many Yankee scum fell beneath withering musket fire from the ingenious design by our generals. To know that McClellan kept coming again and again and was repulsed by these very bunker designs is a testament to all we hold dear at Secession. And now , to know that generations later, legions of Northerners will come down here to test their golf skills and find nothing but despair in these very same bunkers, should fill all our members with Southern pride. Whistle Dixie when you see one of our Northern brethren attempting to escape one of these devilish designs, and know that the South just got a little revenge."

So far the Super Bowl commercials I've seen have been fantastic, easily miles better than last year. Budweiser, Amazon, Doritos and Hyundai were really good. This morning I saw that the CEO of Weathertec had a dog that got cancer so he bought a commercial for the Veterinary School at U Wisconsin (?) to thank them for saving his dogs life. Great story to read/commercial to watch if you like crying at work lol.

I have a friend who is a member at Secession. Played there maybe two years ago. The fake sod on the sides of the bunkers is very hard. If you hit it in face it is like hitting railroad ties. The course is pretty flat but also pretty narrow off the tees. Greens were tough to putt. My friend by the way is from Maryland and is clearly a northerner. This is an uptown club, so City need not worry your not getting in the gates lol.

I jumped on youtube last night to look for some Crossfield stuff to watch, but saw a new NLU Wild World of Golf was airing, so I watched that. It was terrible.

The bro culture was at an all time high.

Soly was not good in the booth. He's just not enjoyable in the video content.

The guy they pulled from the message board to play in the match was EXACTLY the kind of person you'd expect the #1 NLU sack-rider to be.

Tron just keeps ascending. He won that match essentially on his own. He's a gamer. I know Chief thinks Tron's handicap is fake news, but I'll take Tron over Chief in a match any time.

I thought Jim Wagner's appearance was not a good look for him.

The entire thing was too drawn out. I think you could loop the cradle twice in the time it took to watch the episode.

I flipped through YT last night and saw that it said something about the Cradle but I just assumed they were uploading another Tourist Sauce episode. Sounds like I'm glad I did not watch.

But I'm with Chief, I think Tron said in the Succession ep that he was a 2? I would put my 7 up against his Fake News 2 any day. And I know for a fact my 7 should be closer to a 9 when I have a few low scores fall off. Still would do it. But - Tron probably is still the most enjoyable to watch.

I watched all of the Strapped videos yesterday. Watching Neil blow it over and over became painful to watch after awhile. Enjoyed the last Louisiana video the most

Currently watching the Cradle video and I 100% agree with Fabb that it's terrible. The "in the booth" portion is making me sick to my stomach

*UPDATE: I quit watching at the 10 minute mark. Couldn't stomach any more

I'd take Tron 100 times out of 100 over Chief. I was actually turned by Soly's argument that these guys look a lot worse than they are and they play up the flaws in their game for content purposes. But I'd put City's 2 up against Tron's 2 any time.

Those guys have clearly worked hard on their games the last coupe of years. And I don't blame them, given how much they put their games on display. DJ, in particular. Look at his game in TS Scotland vs. where it is now.
