Want to buy FIRST SET Mizuno Blades ....Which set is Best?

Anyways, I’ve went thru this ordeal with my buddy and he ended up on the MP5 and demo my 18s at the time.

The 5s are more forgiving than the 4s and 18s, and it’s a matter of preference on looks. The 4s have a more gentle look, the 5s are more abundant on curves (do I dare say fat?) and the 18s are sharper/handsome lines, added the 18s have a satin look over chrome for a modern look.

I personally think the chrome is the timeless look.

The 4s hold their value but the 5s are plenty forgiving and best value which is why I went to the 2018 Callaway Apex MB (best of both worlds and it came with a two iron set where as the Mizzys don’t).

If you like the 4s, you May want to consider the 2018 Callaway Apex MB because the looks are similar, Tour proven as well, more playable sole and best feeling.w5m5zwxuecu7.jpeg

It was enough for me to trade in my MP18s for the Callys and don’t regret it at all. I wish I had demo the Callys at the time of debut but I was Mizuno bias.

... The Asian market liked reverse progressive offset, with the most offset in the PW. Us yanks hated that. That is the reason I bought Apex 99's that looked great at address but were just way to harsh feeling for my tastes. I have posted this before, but I traded the 99's in for some new MP33's and loved the sweet soft feel. I was at the range hitting them for the first time next to a 20 something kid hitting new Apex 99's. I asked him how he liked his Apex and he laughed and said he just traded in some MP33's for them. He said the 33's felt like "mush" and the 99's were much more crisp and responsive. I laughed and told hm about my trade and loved the soft feel of the 33's compared to the harsh feel of the 99's. I was reviewing club then and it was a great lesson in feel and how all of us can judge feel differently.

A few years ago, at the same I owned sets of MP 15, MP63, MP69, MP4 and MP5.

Of this group of 5 models, only the MP15 played different as the other 4 played essentially the same. Specifically, he tungsten back weights of the MP 15 gave that model a different impact sound/feel.

the mp 4s of recent will be the best you can find ( i have a used set if interested). They are by far the best feeling blades of recent years. I play the mp 18 MBs now and they are great too and look flawless. would recommend. mp 64s are pretty damn close to a blade and feel outstanding

Faldo was responsible for the reverse offset in the MP29s, I remember reading that he liked offset in the lower irons to promote "hands in front of the ball". I actually didn't mind it...

I'm gaming MP15s now, have a set of MP5s sitting around until I find the right shafts for them. The MP15s are really good irons too..

Jack Pearsall would go to a local used golf club store and hit a bunch of Mizunos and Others blades. There are differences in the clubs that you know you can’t observe online. Still, looks are...what? ...60% of the equation?

Liked the idea of trying Callie and others, like srixon 9 series or Titleist mb, Cobra has a nice one too. If you wanna get real snarky, checkout Miura bb! Yowza.

***Update***

Wow. This community is amazing. New to the forum game, you all provided great insight and alternative suggestions.

So after many lost eBay bids for multiple MP-4, Mp-5 and Mp-69, I found a set on another classfied site for MP-33s...I purchased for $130 CAD. The set is 4-9 so it is missing the PW but from my understanding that is ok as it didn't look good for most. Thankfully I collect wedges and I have a Mizuno T7 48 degree. Hopefully it doesn't cause a gap in my short game. I then purchased a set of used true temper x100 for $100.

I feel good with this price for my first blade set.

I will be demoing the Callaway Apex and Wilson FG62 as per your suggestions...in case I don't like the 33's.

Thanks again

I recently bought a mint set of mp-32s. My God are these beautiful irons fun to hit. I did have to reshaft them to my favorite, dg s300. I'm actual struggling with moving up to the new mp-20 line. I have ordered a set of the 20s, but might be until the spring when they kick out the 32s. We will see.

  • 5 months later...

After reading this and a few other threads, I picked up a set of MP-32s in good condition to play around with. Including regripping I'm in for < $200. I need to add a "GolfWRX" line item to my budget...
