Can't believe the new Gamer did so poorly on greenside spin. What's the point in making it a 3 piece if it doesn't perform like one? Time to stock up on the old V2 model.
Is the ball they tested the Gamer or Gamer Tour? Seems like the tour would have more spin.

It just says Gamer, so I'm going to assume it's not the Tour version. Even so, they ruined the best bang for your buck ball on the market.

I really thought the Lethal ball was marketed as a low driver spin ball....granted, the range is very small between high-spin and low-spin off of the driver.
I agree, surprised to see it spin that much with the driver.
My swing speed is in the test's wheel house and it is not high spin off the driver for me. Only TM product I like.

Are there two different kind of Rocketballz? I find they don't spin worth anything with a wedge. I normally plays the NXT Tour S but switched to Rocketballz when it the courses were soaked this spring.. once it dried out, I can't count how many times the RBZ bounced over the green with a wedge.

BTW, I'm VERY disappointed that they don't include carry distance and landing angle with their robot testing. Love to see an independant lab do this.

From what I understand last year's Rocketballz are now called Superdeep. This years model is the Rocketballz Urethane, which should be comparable to last year's Penta TP3 (Lethal should compare to last year's TP5)

Found a Srixon Z-Star XV on the course last Thursday. As it's on sale for $30/dozen, I think it's the best value available right now. Does anyone know if they being replaced with a newer model? Callaway is also selling the Chrome @ 2 for $50 currently, but I'm not sure about the +.

Yes the new version is suppose to come out in August. The main improvement will be spin skin. If the performance improvement on the XV is as much as the QStar then I will try the new XV out and the QStar may be in trouble.

The Chrome + is a great ball! Great feel, good flight off driver, stops well and good cover.
I'd agree with everything but the cover. I have a dozen of these sitting in my shag bag that were chewed up by my wedges so bad I thought I was playing balatas. While a dozen of these are less coin than some of the other options, I'd be playing twice as many to get through the year making them quite an expensive option.

Agreed. Superdeep is a 2-piece with a surlyn cover which replaced the Burner, Rocketballz is a 3-piece with surlyn cover which is still being made. The RBZ Urethane is a 3-piece with a urethane cover which replaced the TP3, Lethal is a 5-piece with a urethane cover which replaced the TP5.

I started to get curious about the Chrome + until I read this ^^^ . I guess I'll stick with the XV...nothing beats it on durability.

I must note that my wedges are non-conforming but I have never ripped a cover like the dozen chrome+ I went through. Some have noted in other forums that the cover performance tends to vary from box to box but that is a risk that I'm not going to take with all the other options out there.

I can't wait for the 2013 XV to hit the shelves! Late August to mid Sept is what I hear...too long.

One quick correction.
The Superdeep did not replace the Burner. Both are available this year.
Burner is $16 the SD $19.99
Both 2 pc Iothane
Burner is touted at a durable distance ball.
The SD is supposed to be their softest feeling and longest 2 pc to date. According to TMAG.

I disagree with the durability, I've used 1 chrome + for 2 rounds with non-comf wedges and there are only a few scuffs on the cover...I guess it all depends on your AOA. This is the ball of the year IMO. I've been able to back up and drop and stop this ball more then anything else I have used! Very impressed from tee to green, just warey to use them on tight courses because I don't want to loose any! LOL

I disagree with your disagreement around durability. I scuffed up '13 ProV1x's WAY less than the Chrome+...As a 100mph SS, I actually have switched to the ProV1x...I played 104 holes this past week during practice rounds and member/guest and the ball flat out performs. To paint an even clearer picture, I am a TM ho and a Titleist hater. PS - I even bought a Titleist hat because of it.

How's the distance with the ProV1X?

I moved away from them a few years ago due to distance issues. At 100-103 mph with the driver I saw 5-10 more yards out of the penta line and the HEX black before the lethal this year.

For me they were as long as I could eeek out of my swing. That low spin on driver makes a huge difference. Ball just seems to go....and go.
