Some of you fellows have some expensive toys. Good for you. Anyone ever hear of a Vostok Russian watch. I bought one about 15 years ago for the princely sum of $20. The one I have is a green dialed paratrooper watch, with a jeweled automatic movement. It came with a fairly good quality leather band, but I bought a cheap $10 Kmart quartz Rolex wannabee, and cannibalized it. I altered the band to fit the Vostok, used the battery in another watch I had, and threw the rest away.

I'm going to have to learn how to take pictures of stuff and download them, so no pictures for now. The Vostok keeps perfect time since I got it. Ebay has hundreds, they come in every branch of service, KGB, tank and air corps, etc. In my opinion, pretty good quality for very little money.

I'm wearing it as I write.

Haven't owned a Vostok, but back in my 24hr watch phase, I had a few Raketa watches.

Russian watches are solid. Lots of fakes, though.

If you've had it for 15 yrs and it keeps good time, it's a good watch. I love watches, whether they're $100K or $10. It's always cool to see different brands w/ different stories behind it. Looking forward to seeing pics!

Thought this rainy day would be a good time to try to upload a picture. If I did this correctly, the Wittnauer on the left was my Dad's from around 1947. I bought the Rolex in 1978, and the Vostok about 15 years ago.

That Wittnauer is beautiful.

It's not a watch, but a clock.
I picked up a LeCoultre Atmos, that will supposedly run 600 years off temperature, and atmospheric pressure changes. Never needs wound, though they reccomend every 20 years having it serviced due to pollution levels in the air.
There also beautiful to look at, as well as a technical marvel.

Alright watch peeps, I'm looking for one of the Eminem G-Shock Limited edition 30th anniversary watches.

Specifically this one: http://www.gshock.co...ed/GDX6900MNM-1

Not a big watch guy but I want one of these and I realize it's not high end but figured someone might know someone that has one to sell.
Cool watch! Pretty understated for an Eminem Limited. I figured it would at least be in white. I like the 10 yr battery.
I'm still having trouble finding one. Nowhere in Georgia even got any according to Casio's site. I may just go with the all black military version of the 6900.

Macy's is an official G-Shock retailer. Hard to believe but they're probably the biggest seller of G-Shocks in the US. If there is one local to you, perhaps they can order you one?

Ha ha! I always wondered how the atomic signal worked if you're constantly in different locations.

It's really not as bad as I made it sound. The radio signals are sent out from stations all over the globe, normally between 0000-0400 in that time zone. If you're in some areas, say like the South Pacific, you can pick up signals from Hawai'i and multiple mainland Asia locations, as well as Australia/NZ, so it's possible get multiple sync attempts in one 24 hour period. Usually it only syncs to the first signal received and ignores the rest, but there are times when it is all wonky for a few hours.

It worked today, though :)

29lck0z.jpg

Does it ever override time zones based on which signal is received first?

Tudor is a great brand, and I think just as nice as finishing as the Rolex, just without the movement.

And I like that it's not as common. So what's the biggest difference between Rolex and Tudor. Same companies, correct?

Kinda. There are only 6 antenna positions in the world that the G-Shocks receive from, hence "MULTI BAND 6" and normally you can't receive a signal if you're too far away from the antenna range.

It's pretty good about knowing where you are, but if you're right on the border of a time zone and haven't reset your home city it will sometimes set the time incorrectly. A simple fix, more entertaining than anything to watch it try to sync.

Tudor is owned by Rolex, but the Tudor watches use the Swiss built ETA movements, whereas a Rolex watch has a Rolex movements. There is a WHOLE BUNCH of debate as to how much modification, if any, is done to the ETA movements in a Tudor watch, what years are better than others, etc etc etc.

Materials, like the band, case, face, hands, are allegedly made from the same materials but obviously aren't plug n play with Rolex watches. Some folks say old Tudor cases are identical to Rolex cases, FWIW.

I have no dog in the Rolex/Tudor fight, but general consensus is the Tudor is a fine watch, but if you own both a Rolex AND a Tudor the differences are obvious.

I can't argue much with this assessment!

The obvious difference is the movement, but having handled both I'd say that is about it. I think the finishing differences between a Black Bay and a Sub are very minimal, so it's all movement. I will say that for 3 days of wear it's gaining about 1 second per day, not bad considering it probably hasn't seen a lot of run time.

I know there are plenty of watch enthusiast around these parts. Not sure how many would front (I'm sure some could) the cash for this beauty, but it sure is pretty darn amazing.

Would or could? That's a $850,000 watch.

whaaaaat... I could buy 3 houses for that price! Not just expensive, that's irresponsible (says me, the poor man, haha.). I guess if you can afford to spend that much on a watch, you're either extremely lucky or you earned it.

Some nice product here. My day-to-day watch is a TAG Heuer Kirium F1 Chronograph in steel that has a pure black face with a hidden digital display accessed by spinning the crown as well as a backlight, but my newest addition is a circa 1990s ORIS Players watch that has buttons to allow you to keep golf score for two players.
