Would you comeback to a golf course if....?

Recommended Posts

Suppose you come to play at a golf course, during your time there, you feel that the staff are rude and unfriendly to you and your friends. The green fee is cheap ($30) but the course condition is poor. When you submit your score for a handicap index, the score keeper laughed at your score. Would you comeback to play at this golf course?

NO! And the last part might end up in fisticuffs.

A very situational decision IMO.

Usually if its my first time playing a course under those variables you stated, I'd give it another shot. Actually had that happen to me when I picked up a cheap time on golfnow. It was this course about 30 mins down the road from my university. Had a terrible experience with the staff, but decided to give it another go and it was just fine. Now I probably won't be in any rush to go back, but if they have a good deal and/or I can't get anything cheaper that's closer, I'd be willing to go back.

On the other hand though, back home I'm very fortunate to have a very big selection of golf courses to choose from. There are some courses with bad reputations, ie poor condition, meh staff, etc. With local knowledge I'd definitely shy away from those courses. I'm not going to name courses, but there are definitely a few back home that if you bring up in conversation someone would laugh at the mere mention of the name.

Bottom line, it's up to you. They had a nice little article about finding "gems" on the homepage not to long ago. If you're embarrassed to say you've played at whatever course, just say you're looking for hidden gems! Or even something along the lines of having to experience it for yourself, see it with your own eyes, etc

not sure what you mean by "poor" but for 30 bucks it ought be better than poor, so my answer is no , before we even talk about Mr.cordial

Almost 2.00 a hole should be a lot bette than poor. I know a course here than is less than 15.00 and is a nicer condition than some costing 5 times that

It would be interesting to see how they treat the regulars. If the same then obviously they just do not care. If enough folks vote with their feet, they may not get the message but a soon change in ownership may.

The two public tracks that belong to the city of Fort Myers has a guy what runs both of them. When I first started playing there I was in the Army would be around maybe once or twice a year. Unbelievable that this guy remembered my NAME a year later. Really a class guy.

First I'd talk to the manager. If he/she was the cause of the problems, I'd want to talk to the owner. If that didn't produce desired results, then no I wouldn't come back.

I'd expect to be comped my round and offered at least a 9-hole voucher to "give them another chance". Short of that, I wouldn't consider it. It's been said, there are too many nice courses for that price where you'll be treated like a human to keep going back to that. We've got one in our area. Staff treats you like absolute crap, the manager is the worst, the owner doesn't care, and they want almost $50 for 18 holes (Years ago Golf Digest gave them 4 stars....over rated). I haven't played or even been to that course in at least 6 years.

I take that back, my family got me a gift certificate for that course. I went in, got a few dozen balls and about 10 bags of tees to use up the whole thing. That was probably 3 years ago.

$30 is over $2/hole, unless you are only planning on playing 15 holes...

hmmm, I must be using the calculator that I keep with score with. Mine says 18 holes times 2 dollars is 36.00. I like your calculator better though.

Mine has an annoying voice feature and has informed me one dollar and 66 cents per hole playing 18 holes for thirty dollars. We need a rules official I think , gotta slow this round down.

$30...18 holes...math... = $1.67/hole

$2/hole would be $36 a round.

No way. $30 is a great price. But not to be treated rudely with poor conditions. Also, if anyone laughed at my score I might take a swing at them. I'm a high handicapper, but it's a $30 course. Do they expect to see tour pros out there or something?

sorry if this is dumb, but when do you play at a new course and submit your score to a score keeper?

The only place i ever turn my cards in is at my home course, even the card from other courses.
[/quote]good question? scorekeeper? can't you just post your own horrible scores?

How poor is poor when it comes to conditions?

Honestly, if I go someplace where the service isn't designed to be a big part of it, I don't care if it's bad. If I did, I wouldn't be able to go to a lot of restaurants or stores. But if the conditions were bad, which is a big part of golf, I'd evaluate if it was fixable (just needed a mow or some cleaning up) or something worse like dead greens. I'd probably go back after some time had passed to give it one more shot.

Really, now. We need to know what your score was so that we can [s]laugh[/s] become indignant along with you.

No. And this is how you lose potential customers. I would be fired from my GC if I did that ...
