Let's just ignore this clown. I'm tired of him as is most of the reasonable crowd that follows golf. Everything think he does seems to go against everything he says he's about
Unfortunately, I'm not sure if this is true. I have a good buddy that follows golf. He isn't a WRXer so he isn't THAT kind of a golf follower. But he does watch most of the tournaments and knows of a lot of the pros. He plays at least 6 times a month. He loves Bubba. He sees the two green jackets, the homegrown swing, and the YouTube videos, and he eats it up. He doesn't understand where my dislike comes from...
Just curious, Is your friend not allowed to have his own opinion, drawn from his own reasoning? Or should he be beat over the head by a mob like this because he has a different take on it? Is he a fool because he sees different than you, like you are implying?

I'm on golfwrx, so according to you I'm "That" kind of golf follower.....so am I a fool for not caring about what Bubbas antics are? For not joining the lynch mob? Am I not reasonable?

I couldn't care less if he is a serial killer....I tune in to watch him play golf. He's great golfer and fun to watch. Who he is off the court is his own choice and responsibility. If you are looking for real role models, go to a boys and girls club or something where real people donate their time. I don't understand the outrage when people see professional athletes act arrogant, like jerks, make questionable decisions, or blow off people......it's not the first or last time it will happen.

See your own quote. He is doing this on the course, hence d0uchebag.

I said that he doesn't understand where my dislike comes from. I made observations about why he likes Bubba. He is free to like whoever he wants. I can laugh at him for liking Bubba, and he can laugh at me for disliking him.

Yes, If you are on WRX, you are probably THAT kind of a golf follower. Most people don't join internet forums and have thousands of posts if they are not passionate about the topic. That is what I mean by THAT kind of golf follower. You seem to be passionate about golf. It's a good thing!

I think that people who put out funny videos and things to endear themselves to the golfing public and then act like a horse's rear end should be held to a standard. Not every funny man has to be funny all the time. But it seems like Bubba is funny for the camera, then a mean spirited person away from it.

I didn't read all the apologist posts but this "long drive contest" on #10 today was DURING the practice round. Bubba was playing a practice round and stated HE WOULD BE HITTING DRIVER DURING THE TOURNAMENT on #10. Yet, he decides to hit 3 iron just to save face as he was scared he wouldn't be the longest driver and lose some of his "luster." If he didn't want to try to hit it long and is "trying to win a golf tournament" then just take the same swing you would in said tournament with said club you are going to hit in actual tournament play. Then if he doesn't win just say he isn't trying to hurt himself before the tournament and took a normal swing.

Instead he hits 3 iron and then bitches about the contest. What a clown.

It's just so confusing to me. Even if you're upset with it, it would be SO MUCH EASIER to just keep your mouth shut, take your normal driver swing that you'll use Thursday, tip your cap and move on.

But no, he's going OUT OF HIS WAY to protest something that, by almost all accounts, ONLY he has an issue with. There was one writer that said Pat Perez looked like he didn't like it, but that was a guess. Everyone else played right into it. Why go out of your way? Maybe he just likes the negative attention. Otherwise I just don't get it

Interesting commentary on TGC.com about this, but what strikes me even more is the video. Watson quickly hits his tee shot with the 3 iron at 10 and walks off down the fairway before his playing partner tees off.

This^^^^ I used to like it when Elkington would do something douchey, because he was one and unapologetic about it and never tried to hide it. He was real, a real ***hole but real... and I appreciate that more...

By all accounts this contest has been won by Louis Oosthuizen with 340 yards, which is one yard LESS than Jack Nicklaus managed in the first PGA Tour Long Drive contest in 1963. With persimmon. LMAO !

Everyone should get down to Louisville Golf or Joe Powell Golf and get themselves some proper wood :)

For sure.

He definitely wouldn't be the only athlete that was a jerk on the "field" and different off. He's simply a bizarre dude for sure, just sometimes seems these threads go beyond simply dislike. How many times does the same thing need said, by the same people? Obviously he has an abrasive personality, and makes odd decisions....but kept in perspective against most athletes, he isn't that far off the norm. What the media portrays him as is out of his control.

For instance, bubba said the contest was hokey......what is more hokey than owning the General Lee? Does him being odd mean he's a terrorist? You'd think so on here lol, but reality is while on course in tourney he isn't the nicest guy...but off he does a lot for charity, his faith and his family...all in all it could get a lot worse than him.

So if he couldn't do it for the fans then why not do it for charity, since that really was what it was for, with the PGA donating something like 25k to the winners charity.

Not to mention it was not made into a huge deal, it was the players tee shot on the 10th hole and they measured it. I was there today.

If he didn't want to do it he could have just hit the tee shot he was going to hit and moved on.

I used to think Sergio was kind of a ***** but after seeing him today, and interacting with the crowd the way he was he has a new fan. He looked like he was having more fun talking to the crowd and messing with his playing partners than he was playing golf.

I have to wonder why Golfwrx allows threads like this, when attacking character is said not within the guidelines. Some of the comments are pretty low; worse, serve no real purpose other than to malign a man for not doing what you expect or want. You all should be ashamed.

I very much agree with this, and would be curious what a mod has to say at why they allow so many threads like this with some of the comments that are made in each one.

In fact I got a "warning" for "abusive" post after I replied to one person in particular who was aggressively posting negatively about bubba and his decision not to participate. Didn't call names, make fun....just asked why he cared so much to post so fast and against bubba.....said member got very defensive and never answered.

Anyway. I pmd the mod and asked what I did, as I didn't call any names (unlike a lot of people calling bubba all sorts of names) and didn't break any rules......I'm still awaiting a response or clarification, I'm not holding my breath.

I think it's great that someone like Louis Oousthizen won, and that Jason Day was right there at the top. What a great story.

I really like that other sports provide contract incentives to their athletes for being an all-star, scoring titles, MVP's, assists, goals, etc, etc, etc.

Maybe the golf OEM's should think about doing this sort of thing for their ambassadors. Make it worth their while to play to the fans.

No single one of Bubba's decisions, outbursts, comments, actions, tearful breakdowns, Hypocrisies (with a capital H) etc.. is enough to formulate a hard opinion about the dude...

...but the sum of them all confirms that the guy isn't someone I'd hang with - I don't care how far he hits it.

Given what Ping has demonstrated in the past regarding their target market, pushing Bubba into long drive competition doesn't seem in their best interest. With that in mind, I don't see PIng doing anything to the man with 2 Green jackets and a huge following.

Really, dude asked for it. It was for fun and despite his self made "i'm happy and free" youtube video's, when push came to drive, he flat refused to even try. Now this guy is not some barely makin it web.com guy, this is a 2 time masters champ. If Jack thinks it's fun and everybody should do it...that says everything.

My kids really like Bubba, but I think they like the image Bubba projects....David Simms would not have hit that drive today either.
