No new acquistions...?

We inspire each other inadvertently. There’s plenty other examples but most recently Foozle and Cold_War’s pics in rounds with vintage made me realize my vintage clubs need a proper bag when on the course. I do love my Sun Mountain but this seems better.

FB Marketplace for $39

All in great shape and should be incredible after some conditioner. Haven’t measured top but semi worried if it’ll fit on my pushcart.

IMG_1332.jpeg.d10b51a2a5892ef85f419def96947895.jpegPurchased these off EBay for another $23.50 total but haven’t shipped yet. No labels and add didn’t say but with the umbrella they gotta be Arnold Palmers right?

IMG_1326.jpeg

Great find! Those old Burton bags are tough and well built. I have a similar one just in black and blue in my collection. Those covers are definitely Palmer brand good score there too

Nice haul....hope you post more of it (unless of course you have a wee truck 🙃🙂) any more of the TA Silver Scots?

I'm a Hogan guy, I am also a metal artist. The majority of the truck load were stuff I'll weld on.. but I don't have the heart to cut up old treasures like these. Not a single hogan in the lot either. I'll post the Wilson's soon too.

That Wilson Gooseneck Pitching Niblick is one of my favorite clubs. I have that and the sand wedge from that set.

Looks like you have some time ahead of you cleaning those up. A five minute soak in white vinegar and a gentile scrubbing with 0000 steel wool while remove most of that rust and they will look great.

Bought a zip tied bundle of old clubs. I saw Power Bilts so I rolled the dice. Think they're 1980 models and of course the 8 iron in awol, figure I'll try em out and if they feel good may hunt down an 8 to complete the set.

They show up in Kaplan's in 1979, notation on the advert - available after 1 October 1978
Had a set of these but sold them....kept the Thoroughbred irons I had instead...I can check to see if I have an orphan 8 iron, if you'd like.

That would be awsome.

FB Market place strikes again. Time capsule 1967 MacGregor Tourney MT R1MT 2-P irons and assuming same year Tourney MT W1MT aluminum insert persimmon woods 1.2,3,4. Everything firm shafts. Got lucky multiple ways on these. I wasn’t first in line when I contacted add. First buyer flaked on a couple meetings and I got the call to come get them. Gladly paid the $90 price. Listed for $95 and when I was digging for singles after giving big bills guy said that’s enough.

Feel a little bad I’m gonna be separating these from there long time home in this bag on this cart but I now have a big Burton tour bag to use on the course

Probably my nicest set yet. Only have done a quick inspection and took pictures so far. Chrome should polish up like jewelry.

Not sure if P wedge is a complete match cuz the usual no serial numbers on the utility club’s. When did Mac change from 10 irons to P wedges? Can’t be too long prior to this time.

Can’t say I’ve ever heard them praised bye anyone but haven’t heard they are horrible either. I have a black finished one needing work that is really attractive.

My knowledge of these isn’t good enough to know if MacGregor ever reproduced them. I bring this up only cuz regardless what he said the grips still actually feel like rubber and might be useable still.

Im gonna try something on them. Few years back I was into racing R/C cars on Ozite carpet. A DIY way to treat the rubber tires after every run was first clean em with lighter fluid on a rag then cote them with a thin layer of the plain white GoJo hand cleaner. Kept the tires soft and sticky. We used Zippo lighter fluid cuz the little cans fit nicely in the pit box but I’m sure plain old BBQ grill starter fluid will do the trick. Try that tomorrow.

Got a huge vintage golfing day coming on 6/24 and these will be in play!

if this doesn't work on the grips give mint tree oil on them, heard good things in rubber restoration

it is wintergreen oil that will soften rubber. You can google "wintergreen oil soften rubber" for more details.

And here's a link..

Interesting video, never did understand what those rubber thingies were.

so a 3:1 mix of 79% rubbing alcohol to wintergreen essential oil might work

Thanks for the info

Will try this. My trick worked a little, not sure if the lighter fluid did anything but I then used Fast Orange

Smooth hand cleaner and it definitely pulled tons of black stuff out of them. The long iron grips are nearly perfect. The woods are very good also. Be a little concerning hitting the 8-P with any type of unretrievable hazard in front of me. Maybe your trick and some sand paper. Generally don’t have a problem regripping and I’m not usually into keeping original but it’s so cool being this much of a time capsule piece.

@FloggingOkie finally got to storage, checked a couple of barrels of orphon clubs - no 8 iron to match your set. Did see an PW in there, but you already have one (Also saw at a thrift store, a 9 iron for your set, but again you already have). I did find an H&B PowerBilt 8 & SW clubs (early to mid '60s Professional line).

Sorry, I didn't have an 8 iron for your set...Have you tried Ironfinder or something similar?

Found one on ebay, would be about 30 shipped, too high.  So far any time I need an older single club it'll cost more than the set is worth. But never know when you'll find one in a barrel of clubs.. patience can pay off sometimes. Got a unused set of Hogan Apex Edge for 10 bucks at goodwill last year. Missing the seven iron still looking for a reasonably priced one.

Oops! Grabbed a full set of Power Bilt irons 3-9 with a nice old Wilson Staff pw at a thrift store on the cheap. Got them out of the car later to really check them out... they're lefties. If anyone could use them I'd trade for some cool old RH gear or who knows what? They're in great shape the 3-9 all have a very small smear of lead on the heel.

🙃 totally understand the chagrin...did the same awhile back - I have always wished to find at least a starter set of the same clubs I began with some 65+years ago...H&B Grand Slam Mars 70 (1 & 3 woods, 3,5,7,9, & Putter), it's a retail set, probably from my Grandfather's wholesale hardware store. I played with those clubs in elementary school & high school. Then they were used by at least one of my sisters for a number of years. The putter is all I have left and it's the putter that is almost always in my bag. I came across a complete set of H&B Grand Slam Mars 70 clubs (!,3,5 woods and 2-SW irons) at a flea market. I jumped on them....when I got home, they also were lefties 🤪🤣
I did give them to a guy for his left handed neighbor....ain't life just filled w/fun 😂

This stuff just feeds the addiction! Got a full set of Spalding Cannons for free. 1,3,5 and 3-PW and bag like new, even has a dozen new top-flite balls of the day in the bag. Anyone use these in the past?

That is a cool set...had to go to Maltby's for info - 1985 thru '88. I'd never seen a similar set, tho that doesn't mean much...I've probably not seen thousands of sets. Thanks for showing
