It just me or are a lot of pros switching to Nippon Iron Shafts?

I hit the SPO in X and S at Scratch's facility a couple of years ago. The Orange just shot straight up on me and spun quite a bit. The Blue was night and day in trajectory. I think it is a tad low, Patrick loved it that day. I actually like to launch the ball high as long as it doesn't balloon and is not effected by the wind too much, meaning not spinning too much. The Orange didn't even get many swings because they just were immediately flying straight up and going no where.

The only times I've hit SPB or SPO was in some Scratch DW heads. I was never thrilled with their iron heads. They have too aggressive of a sole grind for my liking. Felt to me like the blade was too thin and too light and I got little feedback. Having that extreme anti-bounce grind just didn't feel right. Almost like negative effective bounce and the club would dig in deeper or you'd hit it thin and it would sting because the CoG was higher than the balls equator.SPB though, did feel the best between the two. I liked to feel the resistance of the heavy weight. I have hit the ORA proto in X and it was pretty good. Similar to the C10 in feel, maybe a little softer/lighter in the hands. But definetly felt stable. I think the ORA is a little firmer than the SPO and the C10 is similar to the SPB but the 2S14 is really the SPB equivalent. I hope that the Modus125 is similar to the C10/ORA. The C10 is like an X300 with softer mid section. I think it's firmer in the midsection than the 120, but has similar butt/tip stiffness to the 120, so a stiffer overall version.

Can someone tell me what the blue line is?

Blue line is "normal irons" comparison. Pretty sure it's a dynamic gold bend profile represented.
Funny question, who has played both SPB and 120, and can anyone compare the two? Is it possible to like both despite the (apparent) different profiles?
I have and there is no comparison "for me". Personally I don't care about launch but I look at flight and spin. The 120x flew high and spun too much. The spb are perfect they fly lower with lower spin. For me they still hold greens but do not balloon. Spb vs 120x and I am choosing spb stiff all day, 120x are not for me but yet they seem to fit me according to "the chart". Just shows why fittings are so important, as you never know what's going to fit. I shafted up a 130 stiff and it was 10 times better than the 120x but theoretically I fit the 120. The spb are way better than the 130 as far as flight and dispersion go. For me i hit the spb higher than the 130 but i think the 130 just don't fit my swing.

The one thing people don't think about is that Nippon is paying pros to use their shafts
I could see this being a valid point when referring to your average pro.....but MANY of the top tier guys are switching and you know the little bit of money they get from Nippon makes no difference to those guys (Stenson, Haas, Sergio, etc. etc.).

I have just recently switched to the 125x and they remind me of a DG performance but with the signature Nippon feel. I have regained my trajectory with a great amount of penetration and distance has returned.

One of the better shots I have hit with the 125's, and only great shot I hit all day. Nice and easy flighted 5 iron from about 150-155.

Nice shot! I really would love to get my hands on some 125's.

Nice shot MJ! I hit a few stiff with my 125s, but not that close.

Say, did anybody else see Phil Mickelson's chip today on 18 at the Wells Fargo? When he tucked his wedge in his arms, it looked like he was playing a Modus shaft. I know he is a KBS guy, but I saw an awful lot of red on the shaft and it sure looked like he's playing a Modus in one of his wedges. Anybody else see that, or am I just seeing things?

Funny you say that. I thought the same exact thing. But then I figured maybe I didn't get a good look at it and it was a new KBS sticker?
Ha, nah meant 5 iron. Was thinking about going with the 7, but just chose to go for a lower flight soft swing 5 iron. Good thing I did, birdie. I normally only hit the 5 iron 160-170 anyway, there's times when it could go 170-180, but that's not what I want or expect in my irons. I want consistent yardages and gaps. That's why I play more traditional lofts with slightly heavier shafts. I like the consistency it provides.

But for the sake of wrx data, that 150 real time data converts to 195 wrx data.

Just got my first practice round in with my 120x's hardsteped once.

I'm beyond impressed. Feel is great and my ball flight was perfect. My normal shot is a 5 yard draw today it was about a 3 foot draw. Hit some nice soft cuts as well. Can't wait to get a full round in with them

I just pulled the trigger on a 6 iron with 120 S. I'm playing PX 5.5 now so hopefully these give similar performance with better feel.

Well here is my first round with the 120 j15 combo. Needless to say they work well together 20150520_133627_zpsz8cqulbc.jpg

66?! Damn man,we should be watching you on TV! Amazing round!

Man if I had a dollar for how many times I've heard that haha. I had to find out the hard way when I was younger (21-23ish) that there are a lot of kids that were a hell of a lot better then me.

I can always keep it around par or if I'm hitting it well I can throw up a 60 something.

Up until a few years ago me and a buddy of mine would play a practice round with John Rollins, Chad Campbell and Ryan more(once) before the byron Nelson.

My buddy is also a +handi(he won the Texas mid am match play in 08 I believe) and is friends with John. We would both always shoot par give or take a couple. In the 4 rounds we played the closest either of us got to beating any of them was 5. It's true what they say those guys are good

We're going to have to have a little talk about the 11th hole.

Unacceptable.

Completely unacceptable.

:)

yeah that was a bad bogey, hit 3 wood off the tee and it sat way down in the ruff. The worst one was 16, i was on the fringe in 2 and hit my chip to about 8 feet and proceeded to miss it :(

I am about 10 rounds in with the Modus 120X in my i25s and I love them. Distance wise, they are same as the C-Taper and I can swing smooth or hard and get same results. My stock 9-iron is 150. I was playing a hole with a right to left wind and pin was 165 - I was able to really go after a 9 iron with a little draw to ride the wind and the shaft was smooth and stable.

I was second guessing my choice for the X flex, but it is perfect for me.

Now, I will get to see how the Modus 130 compares. I am going to throw a set of those into a set of Mizuno MP32s. I think that combo will be sick.
