It just me or are a lot of pros switching to Nippon Iron Shafts?

Is the 120 the Modus with the softest butt section but still a firm mid and stiff tip? I've found shafts with that profile (soft butt, firmer mid, stiff tip) fit me the best and feel the best for my swing.
That is correct, 120. The "DP" prototype is the exact same shaft.

How does the original super peening Orange play compared to the new modus line and the ORA prototype?
I didn't have a ton of experience with the original SPO, I have hit the SPB more often than SPO. Both SPO & ORA are mid launch and mid spin. The new one goes through their new heat treatment process so it does feel smoother. IMO the SPO was a smoother higher launch DG or a superior performing KBS type. ORA lowers the launch a tad and gives it even better feel. I think it is pretty close to Tour125, maybe a touch lower launch/spin, but not a huge difference in feel/profile.

What are the playing characteristics of the C10 compared to the retail and tour only versions? Especially to the 130. How will it play differently?

Anyone else get those nice shots of Kisner's Nippon shafts at the Players? Tour 130X I believe, 125 wedge shafts.

Hmm, maybe he switched. I had a pretty good shot of his iron shaft on TV and it had a lot of steps lower which would lead me to believe 130, but maybe it was a wedge.

I have a general build Question on the Modus shaft line....how 'busy' is the step pattern up top in the butt section?

Just curious for future wannabe home regrip options....with DG, lots of steps up there, needing masking tape build to smooth out some grips under your hands more than others. Obviously, they both are not step-less versions (aka PX or C-Taper).

thanks.

My 125 X's I counted down 3 steps to know where to end the grip tape. 130's are similar. 120's may have more steps because of softer butt section.

got to hit my 130 stiff modus shafts this week... after a couple of range sessions i am very impressed. The ball launches high with ease and dispersion good... i can really swing aggressively with these without going left as per previous shafts. ( KBS tour and PXI ) They feel better every time i swing them. They feel heavy and thats a very good thing for my timing i believe.

Didn't realize Bill Haas was rocking the ST Proto this weekend. How long has that been going? 115 gram 125 profile flighted is the best way to describe but always looking for more input from those with their experience with the ST. These shafts have a couple of wins on the PGA I believe.

Mark,

Any idea on a prototype 2t15? Saw some pop up recently and figured if anyone would have info it would be you.
Sorry for delayed response. 2T15 is a lighter version of the 2S14 proto, which IMO is similar to like a SPB or a heavier SPO but smoother. Lower launch & spin. Similar I'd say to a 125 or ORA. Lower launch & Spin than 125 I think. I don't know exact weight.

Sounds lovely. I'm curious about the 125s but the 128gr weight makes me wary. I've gotten comfortable with iron shafts in the 110-120gr range

Ok thanks for the info, I just put in my spb's and loving them so far. Much smoother than the c tapers similar flight characteristics but less sideways movement and about a club longer. Think I am going to stick with them for a bit.

I wish we had a place around here to try all the different Nippon shafts! I've been gaming the 120's for three years now, but don't know if I'm play the right ones or not.
Mark is the guru, but in my limited experience I'd concur that the 125 is as stated in the middle of both the 120 and 130. There is a review on golf shaft reviews, http://www.golfshaftreviews.info/index.php/category/categories/nippon/

I abhor the 120, there is only one other iron shaft that I've disliked as much as the 120 and that is the ctaper. The 125 is a much more uniform/universal shaft compared to the "norm". It's unique, but familiar if that makes sense. Should start popping up here scarcely within the next few weeks.

Agree with this. I didn't notice much difference in swinging 120/125/130 weight wise. Although full disclosure I have always preferred heavier shafts and played a 135g+ weight shaft for 4 of the last 5 years. The biggest difference was kick in my mind. ST Proto's for sure I could tell the difference, especially on the backswing/take away. Super light and it whipped back quick. I think it taught me I am relying too much on the resistance of the weight of the club to guide my backswing and I need to focus more on my body and what it is doing in harmony with the shaft. Although I've always read/heard that it isn't how you take it back, it's how you set at the top and come through. Just ask Furyk, Moore, Sergio, etc.
