I would average out at fair. But in any given match I will be all three. Got to keep the opponent off balance and wondering is he's going to get the next one given to him.

I actually just looked at DaveChen's grint to see if his hole-by-hole scoring was tanking at the end.

 

Spoiler : it's not.

DaveChen also missed an 18" putt to win a hole while we still had a match worth playing for. It was after an excellent bunker shot too, I was kind of sad for him.

nah, it's fine. we basically got screwed by the course being closed every other day except today, so there were no spots left. hotel reservations had been made, outfits purchased, course charted. oh well.

 

we're playing northwest this afternoon instead.

Going forward, stern when it comes to making guys mark their short ones before I putt out. None of the "I'll finish" when it's actually playing out of turn.

Hive Golf Alert!!!

 

We're following up July's Red Rag Challenge with a Fourball event on Thursday August 4th. We'll be playing at the University of Maryland Golf Course, with tee times beginning at 3pm.

 

The teams will be randomly generated, so the competition will be net scoring only. Entry is $5 cash, payable the day of the event. 75% of the pot will be going to first place, and 25% to second place.

 

We're going to set a cap at 20 players. You can start claiming spots now by sending me an email, or PM. I'm not going to comb through the thread for posts asking to play. As always, let me know if you've got questions.

This is a slight pivot, but I must say I think people mark their balls WAY TOO MUCH anyway. You just rolled a 30 footer to 5 feet, and a guy is putting from 10 feet 90º away and you want to mark your ball?

 

That's one of those things that I really think people do because the pros do it.

 

Or some people just have it as part of their PSR. Like, mark, pick it up, put it down, look at it, putt it. It's a good habit to break, IMO.

Going to disagree here. My pro drilled it into my head to mark, set the ball up using the alignment arrow (or whatever that mark may be on the ball) and to get that rolling end of end when you putt. He wanted me to do it every time. Is it a PSR? Yes, but there is a purpose to it, in that if that line isn't rolling end over end when I putt then I need to check my stroke. Be it a 12 footer or a 2 footer.

I'm with City on this one, I think marking your ball for the majority of instances is dumb and slow except for a few reasons:

You use an aid on the ball

 

Anything else just wastes time.
