Golf slang you created

I came up with some slang for keeping score.

Eagle = "double circle"
Birdie = "circle"
Bogey = "box"
Double or worse = "double box"

Example sentence, "You got a box on the last hole right?"

Everyone knows what a snowman is. If someone in our group gets a 10, a friend puts the thumbs of his fully extended fingers in his ears, wiggles them and shouts "moose ears".

"Bottom Feeder": a shot off the bottom of the club face (a description used mainly with the driver)

This one is bad: a friend use to call some of his shots a "shuttle ball" - i.e., like the Challenger shuttle - looked good at launch but ends up horrible

If I play well on on the front and poor on the back side (34/43) - I sometimes say I went "supernova" on the back.

This may be something I've heard somewhere else, not sure, but I call a ball that lands in the water a "trout".

When I hit an errant shot and it's headed toward trouble I'll yell "be nice".

I didn't make up any of these but I like them and I use them:

A Linda Ronstadt = when your tee shot goes way beyond your buddy's as in "Blue Bayou

A Dolly Parton = when your ball goes all the way around the hole before falling in..... A full cup. Also heard that one referred to as "an all around good putt"

An Adolf = two shots in a bunker

A Cuban putt = a ball hanging on the lip of the hole....it needed just one more revolution

not sure I have any that I use that I made up, however, my good buddy bells has an entire arsenal. I won't share them all but my favorite is:

Proud Mary - an easy putt (shot or hole), aptly named after a girl who made her way around the football team in college. It's even better put into use when we're playing with another buddy who married Mary.

We have as part of our game a putt made longer than a flag stick as a pole putt or poley which costs everyone else a dollar no matter what the score. One can only imagine what takes place from there as guys will begin to comment on how much the pole putter likes to get some pole. Dog par first ball out of bounds second ball makes a par

I've always referred to this as the "ride-along program".

Not mine, but a shot that hits the flagstick is "eating fiber" (due to the flagstick being made of fiberglass). IIRC I think I read this in Shipnuck's [i]Bud, Sweat, and Tees[/i]; either Beem or Duplantis used this term.

Also, a violent lipout is a "prom night/putt" in that it got a lot of lip but no hole.

A David Hoselhoff: when you catch one on the hosel, obviously.

Trapper Keeper: When you trap a shot.

Pulligan Man: A pulled shot, we have a local water delivery company called Culligan, employees are called the Culligan Man-

Victory lap: A putt that goes 360* around the cup before falling in

On Safari: In the sand

Cutter and Buck: A cut shot, sometimes on purpose, sometimes not.

Black(ed) Out: When any one in the group plays well above their normal ability for a number of holes.

Gun Slinger, or just a Slinger: A low draw, usually around an obstacle.

Goin Pro: When you try a shot you have no business trying. It's fun, try it.

Tin Cup: Anything off a cart path that stretches a shot for good or bad.

George Flopadopolis: A flop shot.

Came inside you: When you stick an approach closer than your playing partner.

Good Poke: A couple of our wives would come along with us and say "Good Poke" after any decent tee shot.

A Fowler: Old guy in non-matching Fowler-like colors, doesn't apply to younger players.

D*#k Out: If you don't get a drive past the Ladies tee. I haven't seen it personally, but a good friend has. Couple of college linebackers enforced the rule on each other. My buddy watched a 300+ pound lineman play an entire hole with his pants around his ankles.

Pelt: Same as everyone else, a big divot.

Bubba: Any time your feet slip or move.

"Got it": usually said after a horrendous shot, all while holding a Rory pose.

Knock the teeth out/Cut one in half: When you catch one more than thin.

I used to say Trundle, until I heard Johnny Miller say it. Then I stopped immediately. That guy is ridiculous.



As a group, we tend to talk a lot on the course. The only time it really gets quiet is when a guy links together a couple of really bad holes. Then the chatter stops so he can regroup. Then it's back to the normal.

Pretty much every shot ,aside from putts, gets a name or callout of some kind. Smooshed, crushed, "sounded good",
