Playing early morning or afternoon?

My husband used to play a lot of golf, & he's the one who got me into golf. But after retirement he just lost interest in it gradually, and now he's totally invested in working with our local Humane Society....he says it's much more rewarding than golf. He has no problem whatsoever with me playing golf as often as I want to (like he could stop me) :cheesy:

Or maybe his ego couldn't take getting beat by you even when you gave him 2 a side....so her made up a story he'd rather spend time with dogs vs. his loved one. :taunt:

As early as possible. 3 1/2 hour rounds are the only way to go. Only problem is 4 1/2 hour rounds seem like death and the idea of anything longer than that or waiting to tee off is completely intolerable.

For me, it depends on the day (part) of the week. If I'm going out during the week afternoon is preferred. I can't typically make anything but afternoons work. The group of guys that I play with during the week also can't get out and play any time before 3 in the afternoon either. On weekends, we are typically the second through 5th or 6th group off (club has a single that goes off before everybody, long story but he plays fast).

I don't play a lot different based on time of day, but do play based on how much time I have had to warm up. When I have enough time to actually have a good warm up, which happens more in the morning since no work gets in the way, I certainly have better scores.

i like to walk 18 in the mornings thru the week, unless i'm playing with sum who doesn't like to walk so i'll ride. on some of those days when it's not to blazing hot and the humidity isn't so high i'll walk in the late afternoons when the course isn't so crowed with people and you don't have to wait like 5-20mins on the tee box at each hole. but if i had to pick one, i'd pick early mornings. beat the rush and then after that round i can hit sum more at the range or work on my short game for a couple hours and then chill the rest of the day

Hate morning golf...hate getting up early. Golf almost every Tuesday and Friday 3:30 with a regular group, after work. If I play weekends...it is usually after 2:00. Morning golf is wet...I don't care for that either and it's too early to drink beer...lol.
Most courses I play..we can get in 18 even if we don't start until 4:30/5:00 or so.

I prefer the fairly early tee time if I can, before 8am. I seem to be more focused, easier to get into a rhythm due to better pace of play, and the obvious may have time to play another 9 or hit the range afterwards. If I am playing with the wife, then late morning 10:30 to 11ish, because she is not a fan of playing if its chilly or getting up earl to go, but she likes getting done with plenty of daylight left. I don't mind the weekday twilight after work round. Walk 9 holes with the wife, watch the sun go down.

I am used to playing early (I couldn't play as much as I want to if I wasn't).

Yesterday I was standing on the first tee at 6:30 waiting for the sprinklers on the first green to be shut off.

I walked 18 with my pushcart and was home changing to go to work at 9:30 (I live 5 miles away).

By 10:30 I was in my office (30 miles away from home).

I play mostly in the afternoons after work, and love being out during the twilight, as it reminds me of playing with my dad growing up (only afternoon tee times for employees at Pinehurst) But I do like being the first guy out on my occasional day off... no slow play and I love finishing off walking 18 at 9:00am as the crowd ques up on the first tee.

I love going out first as a single during summer time, morning dew, fresh green, sub 2 hours round.

10 am or later.. If I start at 10, I can pick my son up from school...
I also hate the changing putting conditions when the dew dries up during the round.
First 4 holes, putts are short..
Next 4 holes, putts are perfect..
4 holes later - all putts are too long...
few more holes - putts are too short...
Just at the end - they're dropping again...

There's things I love about playing at all times of the day.

Early morning. I love the dew and the smell of freshly mowed grass, something about this time of day brings back memories of playing junior golf and not having a care in the world.

Late morning early afternoon rounds I like how it plays more like a tournament. Usually slower paced and in my groups usually the most serious round played. A bit more of a mental grind.

Twilight I enjoy having the course to ourselves. Where I live in the summer you can play past 10pm with daylight and it's usually dead calm, and just really peaceful. Can usually play pretty fast as well. These rounds are a bit more relaxed with beers flowing and music playing.

I guess my answer is I don't have a favourite as there are different things about each part of the days golf experience that I really enjoy.

Mornings are for drinking coffee and nursing hangovers from drinking after the previous evening's round.

That is how I look at it.

The most special time of day is dusk when you are trying to get you last few holes in and the light is beautiful and the wind dies down. Love it.

Here in Fl playing in the morning is like being a frog getting slowly cooked in water. Yeah, it may be comfortable when you jump in.....

Another thing is for those of us who play in humid areas the
humidity rises dramatically in the morning til the dew evaporates.

Those early morning hours are like a steam bath.

For you guys that like to play in those conditions; hats off to you.

99% of my rounds over the last 30 years have been evening. Got out of work & headed to the club for as many holes as I could get in before night fall. Maybe 6, perhaps 12 or so. Now a days, it is the kids word schedule that keeps me going later in the evening. Whatever the reason, I like being last off. I can play a couple extra drives OR whatever shot I'm looking to work on. Or, I can just relax and play at our own pace till night fall.

As the light was fading fast, we had a little golf challenge golf after the last hole on Saturday night. One was a putter only from 100 yards out. My kid hit the green and took a birdie...was great! Rarely do we walk off the course and it is light out!
