Weirdest thing you have won?

Recommended Posts

So I am in a match with one of my friends today and I win 3&2. We get to the 18th tee (a short par 4) and he says to me:

"hey, if I beat you by three strokes on this hole, we are even for the match?". I ask him what was in it for me? He says "I'll give you a John Deere weedwacker". I give him every chance to back out, but finally agree.

He is long off the tee and has me by 4 strokes on the HC. He can easily drive the green. He tees it up and drives it right along the edge of the trees, pops his wedge into the front bunker gets on and two putts. I put away my fairway and hit hybrid, wedge, two putt.

So, now I have a JD weedwacker.

What is the strangest thing you have won on the course?

Scramble tourney. Prize drawings afterwards. They gave away incredible prizes! Bags, balls, drivers, trips, free golf, and even a cruise.

I am completely bald.

I won a style and shampoo......

The crowd roared as I walked up to the stage and pulled my cap off. And my wife loved it.

Hilarious. At a Turkey Shoot scramble I ended up with a butternut squash and a frozen bag of peas. I walked in the door and my wife asked me, WTF!?

Played in a charity fundraising scramble one year in Mount Olive, NC, won closest to pin prize on a par 3, the prize- a case of pickles. Donated prize to a local food pantry- for the next month, in my group any iron shot around the pin was referred to as a "Vlasically good" shot.

I've won long drive a few times at scramble events and every time the prize involves a large amount of alcohol and as i'm under 21 i watch as they take it out and leave me with like 25 tees and a 3 pack of balls.

In another scramble tourney one of the prizes donated was a giant block of cheddar cheese. Donated by a town in Wisconsin that packages it.

I won that bad boy. And had to wear a triangle block of cheese on my head for a photo op to be sent to their small town newspaper. Never saw the photo (thank goodness) and like the other member, was greeted by my wife with a "What the hell is that?"

It was really delish cheese - I have to give kudos to Wisconsin!

At My Bud's Invitational I won a "Twofer" in a raffle in that the the one prize was a one year(season) weeding/lawn maintenance program(I lived in a friggin condo) and the second envelope was a "Spa Day for two," and I was between GF's and there was no one that I wanted to spend the day with, especially my date for this evening black tie event. While she was attractive, she was a -25 cap on that 5 1/2" course between her ears.

The way she started squealing you'd have thought that we won the friggin lottery, and then she looked at me and said, "Oh boy will this be fun. We'll really get to know each other."

Oh Boy ;)

I won a pallet full of Budweiser beer once for a closest to the pin contest at a charity scramble. It was 196 six packs of beer.

I don't drink beer. Hate it.

I auctioned it off right after the pictures were taken.

I would have built a throne of Budweiser, declare myself the King of Beers, then demand everyone bow to me. Then I would have auctioned it off.

Wasn't weird, just kind of BS. Last scramble tourney I played they had a ton awesome prizes. It wasn't a cheap tournament ($150/player) so the prizes made sense. Every Par 3 had a closest to the pin with the final Par 3 having a Hole in One prize of a full set of TM clubs. Each and every prize was on a nice board at the tee box, so everything looked 100% legit.

The first par 3's closest to the pin was a TM driver and I stuck it to within 3 feet. Well the company that provided the prizes wasn't happy with some agreement because after the tournament they changed their part of the bargin. Apparently those prizes listed were only if you made a hole in one......needless to say none of the players were happy because the prizes we got were things like a sleeve of Nike MOJOs and a bag of tees.

Most every prize I've ever won in a golf tournament is definitely "golf related", but at one particular country club my partner & I won first gross in the Championship Flight & we each got a tablecloth. Special huh?

And most tee prizes I've ever received at tournament have been golf related, but at a very exclusive country club recently, we all received mink earmuffs.
I'm still confused about that one. I was hoping for shoes, or a nice shirt, or something, anything from the Pro Shop. But it was about 95 deg that day & we got mink earmuffs.

Golf outings in Japan always give away strange, but darn useful things, like toilet paper, a step stool, a huge case of chilled frozen crabs, steaks, etc. I thought it was weird at first, but it makes more sense to me than balls or a driver you'll never use.

Played in a Japanese / American friendship tournament while I was stationed in Japan about 17 years ago. Got closest to the pin on one of the par 3's and won a 5 pound bag of rice. As i was living in the barracks, I had no way to cook the rice, so I gave it to one of my Japanese co-workers. They appreciated it as it was premium rice.

I still have the closest to the pin marker.

Too funny, at our Wed men's nights we have a blind prize. It's hidden in a weed whacker box so the first guy out of the hat is screamed at to take the weed whacker. Sometimes it's a Scotty putter and sometimes its socks or a CD of one or our Korean members who is apparently a Karaoke star in South Korea

Anyways, I've won some interesting things over the years in scrambles
- a grandfather clock
- a stir stick for wine making worth about 45 cents
- a Dennis the Menace VHS tape
- an Accuform whistler square driver
- a Molson Export t-shirt about 3 sizes too small (schmedium)

My favorite though was my twin making an ace at an event to win a $100 flip cell phone. Arghhh. Two holes later there's another par 3 with a briefcase holding 10,000 cash for an ace ... the look on his face was priceless

We did have a guy at our club make an ace on the Corona hole on year. 24 beers a week for a year. He sold it.
