With the arrival of "warm" weather, it's time to hit the road and play a handful of far-flung courses for the first time. Basically, with easterly winds tomorrow, I gotta get away from the lake. I'll be out at Prairie Bluff tomorrow morning. 'Not quite sure why I didn't play this course when I lived in Bolingbrook for years, but it's time for a visit. The weather tomorrow looks pleasant, although Sunday looks iffy at this point. The place looks pretty wide open, so hopefully the winds will be moderate.

I like PB a ton, a lot of it reminds me of Bolingbrook for some reason. Personally for the money I'd take PB anyday.

For some reason I find it a far more fun play than Bolingbrook. Not necessarily better, just more enjoyable, and definitely a better value.

I agree, Bolingbrook is one of my least favorite courses to play, unfortunately it's a favorite of one of the guys in my foursome so we end up playing there once or twice a year.

I feel like Prairie Bluff is very much like the Sanctuary in New Lenox but on triple the amount of land. PB, Sanctuary, and Broken Arrow are three south side decent courses IMO
[/quote]

That course looks good. Can't believe I've never heard of it. Actually, can't believe no-one has told me about it before. It's now on the list.

In the Glendale round there were around 24 beers consumed in the foursome.

Combined,Adam and I had ZERO. Ask him about our "partners."

I'm playing hard to get so no Callie hugs yet, although she's offered, yeah right.
I'll try and sneak in a hug today...just depends on how many beers I have. I'm kinda shy you know. Ha!

Dubs was fairly solid, tees boxes, fairways were in solid shape, the greens were a bit funky. They rolled okay but they were shaggy and slow, that part was disappointing, paying what you pay to play there I guess I expect everything to be perfect. I managed to avoid all the bunkers like suggested so I can't comment on the sand.

Clearly the nicest day of the season, but unfortunately the slow golfers and bad drivers conspired to ruin an otherwise great day. I left downtown at 8:10 am this morning, and got back 8.5 hours later. WTF. I got to the first tee at Prairie Bluff, and was told that they were already 20 minutes behind. The round wound up taking 4:45, so it was over 5 hours on the course. The cherry on top was the bumper to bumper traffic on I-55 from I-355 to Western, an hour and a half trip back to the city. Oy veh. It's days like these that remind me why I play Harborside and Wilmette.

PB was in decent shape. There were 3 greens on the front nine that were in pretty sad shape, but otherwise OK. The course has some of the nastiest fluffy sand I've played, and thankfully I was only in one bunker. I thought the layout was decent for a prairie style course, but I'll take parkland any day. Overall it was a good course, but I wouldn't make the trek again to play it.

Had an excellent round. Driver was working, hitting 10 fairways, which lead to 11 GIRs. Being the first time out, I played rather conservatively, which kept me away from the big numbers. 'Lots of boring pars, which never gets old.

Tomorrow looks rather dicey, so I'll stay close to downtown if I do head out.

I worked at Naperbrook in the mid 90's and never saw the course fall behind like that, how does a course end up 20 minutes behind and why are they letting it happen????

Our round at Cog was almost 5 hours as well, I'm sure it had everything to do with the two groups in front of us insisting on playing the course at the full 7400 yards...on hole 6 we watched the foursome in front of us take anywhere from 4-7 shots each person before they ended up on the green. Spending the money it costs to play I don't totally dislike the slow play, it's about the only time I don't hate waiting just because I can take the time to take each hole in.

Great day at HOE. Course is in immaculate shape, greens are by far the fastest I've played this year. Guys, word of advice...don't ask the other cart girls if they miss Danielle. Spoiler alert...they don't. In fact, they have some pretty harsh opinions of our favorite former cart girl.

Had an 11:50 tee time, planned to be there at 11 to hit the range and try out my brand new 915D2, but of course my ride was late and we got there about 11:45. Rushed out to the tee and 8 strokes later I was on hole #2. Later butchered #16 going OB twice and had a triple. Ended up with a 89, not bad considering the two blow up holes. Lipped out 4 putts, but later started to get the speed down and had 5 1putts on the back, 4 of them because I chipped on to tap in range. Fighting a fade with all clubs and had my customary 2 shanks on the day...so over all I can't complain about keeping it in the 80s. Pace of play was great, never waited on a shot and the people behind us maybe caught us twice all day...and the other 3 in my group shot 100, 110 and 120+.

Tomorrow looks like s***, might not even need to tell my wife to take the El home from the airport at 2:30.

Yeah, it's looks bleak right now. There's a massive storm moving through central Wisconsin and Illinois. It'll probably reach us by 9 am. There may be a clearing from 10 to 2 pm in you want to try to time it, but another storm is supposed to pop up after that.

It just hit Villa Park, so it's here already. Heavy winds, solid rain. Loud lightning and thunder. Good luck.

Played Oak Meadows with a great crew yesterday; probably my last time there before they tear it up for the rebuild. Course was nice, weather was much nicer than anticipated. Greens were hard as a rock, yet slow pace-wise. I don't think they're watering them in anticipation of the tear down. Nobody stopped a ball on the greens, chips didn't check, full wedges ran out 10 feet at minimum. Challenging playing a driver-wedge when it doesn't stop. I hit a number of shots I thought were great, only to have them bound through the green. Driver sucked until 18, lipped out 5 or 6 putts (seriously I went back and counted) until 18 was overly kind. Bogey train rolled for much of the round, but I'll take it for an off round.

Perhaps if you hit putts directly at the hole with a pace that would have the ball finish 8-10 feet past, the ball might hit the hole, go straight up and drop in the cup.

I've heard that's how some suggest it should be done.

Btw, Friday night my brother tells me he got me a spot to play the highlands for Saturday. Already having a tee time at oak meadows I said no thanks. Found out this morning it wasn't to highlands of Elgin as I assumed, but rather Chicago highlands, fully paid for. Doh.

Played Geneva National this weekend. Player on Saturday and Palmer today. Player was a fun course. Palmer beat me like a rented mule. After 18 holes I still couldn't figure out the Palmer greens. My new Mizuno irons perform much better on average than I do. Awesome irons. Fun weekend.

I've walked off that course a few times and said F Arnold Palmer.
