Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

Picked up the wife at O'Hare at 3, weather didn't look that bad so headed over to Edgebrook for a quick 18. Love that place, its a great practice 18 hole layout. Never anyone out there, you can have the place practically to yourself. Its only about 4500 yards, but it costs the same as Billy Caldwell yet you get 18 instead of 9. With a cart we finished in 2 hours.

Looking at the long range forecast, it looks like more T-storms over the next two weekends. OK, this sh*t is officially getting old.

If I'm spending top dollar for a venue like Cog, I expect the pace of play to be damn-near perfect / reasonable.

I can make my own time to sit around and soak in the sights. I prefer not to have overmatched hacks ahead of me dictating when I can and can't hit my next shot.

Do you get one of those huge checks signed by the PGA Tour every week? Didn't think so. Weren't you looking for playing partners or a group to fill? With an attitude like that, I'm not sure anybody would enjoy your company.

I'm not asking for 6 hours out there but spemding some extra time isn't horrible. If i ever pay Pebble I'd like to sit on hole 7 for hours!

About the only thing I think should be perfect is conditions.

I've played several longer rounds at Streamsong, Bandon Dunes, Pinehurst, etc. When you combine the course difficulty, distance between holes, and people taking a few minutes to snap a few "bucket list" photos, it's not unexpected that the rounds can stretch a bit longer.

However, if you happen to find yourself behind a slow group that is playing from the wrong tees, it can try the patience. Waiting on every shot grows tiresome.

I played with 3 guys at We Ko Pa Cholla a few years back, and they were playing from the blues, and I was playing from the white. These guys couldn't hit a fairway if they walked out and dropped the ball in the short stuff. It was clear that they weren't having any fun, as they spent an incredible amount of time walking around in the desert with their heads down looking for their balls, and trying not to turn an ankle on a rock. I understand the desire to "get your money's worth", but at some point it becomes silly. I want to go out and have fun, and possibly have a great round. Playing a difficult course from the wrong tees is the opposite of fun IMHO.

There's a difference between being a recreational / bad golfer vs lacking the consideration of others behind you.

Being a high handicapper doesn't mean you get to be an inconsiderate golfer. Being a low handicapper doesn't mean you get to be a slow golfer either.

In retrospect I should have known better. When he tole me he acted like it was a favor that he got me on, didn't even register with me. He gave me that "are you serious" type look, I should have caught on. But in reality that course is out of sight out of mind for me. I heard from others that the course is extremely nice, but nothing close to the level of other prestigious courses it likes to compete with. Or at least that's the lie I'm telling myself. Oh well, I still golfed, DP4 pouted, and a good day was had by all.

I believe Aldeen is a bargain, but I wasn't a big fan. I thought the course was too tight, with too many low hanging pine trees lining the fairways. 'Keep it in the short stuff.

My brother played it Sunday afternoon, after it rained pretty hard for a while. Said they were holding a little, but he still had to look hard for ball marks and they were pretty insignificant.
