Anyone interested in playing Village Links this afternoon at 1:40? We have an opening for 1. I need someone to hold my umbrella.

how bout this fvcking weather?!?

I bet if you do the research you would find that every mass shooting in America came on a summer saturday that had un golfable weather. Just sayin....

Did manage to get out yesterday afternoon, 18 at Glencoe. Course is in the best shape I've ever seen it. Greens are faster than they've ever been and rolling great. Shot an 82, but choked away the chance of an epic round on the last two holes. Was 8 over, 80 yards from the pin in 2 on #17, looking like a possible birdie and a sure par and I go ahead and chunk a sand wedge. Bogey. Then nearly shanked my approach on 18 and settled for another bogey.

Thinking today is the perfect day to head to Golfsmith with my driver and test it vs the new 915D2 and finally make a decision on the big stick.

WTF. What happened to 67, and winds in the afternoon? I got out at Wilmette at 9:20 am this morning, and it was 51 degrees, a strong wind coming off the lake, and a steady rain. The forecast predicted a few dry hours, but no such luck. The course emptied out fairly quickly, as many groups called it quits after 9 holes. I stuck it out like a goof ball, and finished in just under 3 hours.

Can't say it was the most enjoyable round. I couldn't hit an iron to save my life, but at least the driver and wedges were working. Even in the steady rain and strong breeze I managed 12 fairways. Add 5 scrambles, and it wasn't a bad scoring round. Still, it's going to take days to dry out.

Definitely a perfect day for a GolfSmith/PGASS/ dome stop!

Man it feels like the temp dropped fifteen degrees in minutes!
No kidding. I could have swore the forecast called for SW winds, but they shifted to NW, and the temps dropped from 67 to 51 in a few minutes.

Anyone going to brave this crap today? I thought the rain would pass by early morning, but now it looks like showers will be around until 10 am at least, and the winds are 20+ mph from the dead north. No idea why I'm even thinking about heading out.

I am, gonna head out soon and play white deer run in vernon hills again today after playing it on Thursday. I actually like playing in the chilly weather, courses are typically empty.

On a whim played Prairie Bluff on Friday. Got through about 7 holes before we got washed out. I was very pleasantly surprised. Staff was very friendly, both chipping AND putting greens were in excellent shape as was the course. Not a very hard links course but enough wind, fescue and elevation to keep it interesting.

For a course surrounded by RF and Mistwood, place was a real treat. Pro shop pro rated the holes i lost for the rain no issues.

I like Prairie Bluffs a lot, especially for the deals you can get there. I used to work with the Lunde brotheres at Naperbrook (the pro's at PB) and they're both really good guys.

Played Stonewall Orchard today. Windy but otherwise nice. Greens were fast and the course condition was very good. Played my first round with my Mizuno 850 Forged irons today. Awesome irons. Hit a few thin but still got good distances. Lofts are about 5 degrees stronger than my old clubs but overall my distances were good. Finished in just a couple of minutes over four hours. Headed back there in two weeks. Looking forward to another round there.

Played Maple Meadows this afternoon. Waited until 4 when the kids were napping/occupied and snuck out. Fairly wide open, left at 4, home with a pizza at 7:15. Took a cart just to hurry a bit more, but still took my time out there and hit some extra shots I needed to practice. Really wasn't that bad; in comparison to what it should be it sucked, but really it was completely tolerable. Wind was pretty solid out there, 1.5 to 2 clubs at times. Shot a 77 (par 70), with 3 doubles, one on a par 5, yeah. Bogeyed another after a lost ball... what could have been.

Played Lego most of yesterday building Mad Max cars with my 6 year old. Apparently the story line is Max gets Mad when silly people steal his car and he wants it back. I can't argue with that.

It's June 1 and 46 degrees in Chicago. **** global warming.
I'm beginning to think there just won't be a beach season this year. Water temps at Lake Geneva are still in the 50s and we've passed the second weekend of 'summer'!! Lake Michigan water temps still haven't recovered from the winter of 2013/14.

I asked for advice earlier in this thread about playing Ravines at Cog Hill. Thanks to everyone who contributed. The advice really helped on a bunch of holes where local knowledge comes in handy. Overall the course was in great shape. Loved the greens. Not fast or slow but definitely pure. Had a good round going until I hit the downhill par 3 and the doglegs on the back. Took a club too many on that par 3 and my ball came to rest in a divot on the backstop, shortsided to the hole. Instead of going back to the cart for my hybrid I tried to gut out a gap wedge and of course bladed it to the far side of the green. :) Ended up with an 81 after limping in at +6 over the final 5 holes.

Overall the course is beautiful and in great shape but at $75 a lap it's unlikely I'll be back. I can find similar rounds at similar courses for close to 1/3rd that price using the discount tee time websites. Plus their range opened 45 minutes AFTER the tee times for the day started. Huh?? I guess golfers don't like to warm up before playing $75 rounds?

Another reason I like walking. I too am too lazy at times to go back to the cart and get the right club, often with poor results.

Yeah, unfortunately the rates have crept up over the years. It used to be quite a bargain, but not so much anymore. Did they give a reason for the range? Seems rather odd.

I'm pretty sure that was the weekday rate (we played on a Friday), but if memory serves me they charge the same on that course for weekday/weekend.

As for the range, the cashier made it sound like that's just how it is there. They were mowing, too, but I don't know why they can't do that later in the day. They're essentially walking away from revenue from people wanting to warm up on four different courses by keeping it closed so late into the day.

Pace of play was excellent but that could be due to the prohibitive price. Most rounds do tend to go quickly when the tee sheet isn't booked solid.

$75 for The Ravines Course is steep.
Agreed, but it's likely the weekend w/cart rate. Not too far off for courses around here now unfortunately.
Agree, IMO Ravines is worth $50 tops.
