$75 for The Ravines Course is steep.
Agreed, but it's likely the weekend w/cart rate. Not too far off for courses around here now unfortunately.
Agree, IMO Ravines is worth $50 tops.
Good luck with that. Where is there a decent course where one can pay $50 w/ cart for a weekend rate? Most of the munis are charging $50+ to walk for non-residents.

I'm pretty sure that was the weekday rate (we played on a Friday), but if memory serves me they charge the same on that course for weekday/weekend.

As for the range, the cashier made it sound like that's just how it is there. They were mowing, too, but I don't know why they can't do that later in the day. They're essentially walking away from revenue from people wanting to warm up on four different courses by keeping it closed so late into the day.

Pace of play was excellent but that could be due to the prohibitive price. Most rounds do tend to go quickly when the tee sheet isn't booked solid.

A lot of courses have/are changing weekend rates to include Friday or Friday afternoon.

You miss my point, I'm not necessarily looking for $50 w/ cart on a Saturday mornings, that's the most I would pay to play there. I'd rather spend $100 on a course that's worth it, than $75 on one that's not.

I like the Ravines Course, but I'll only play there twilight.

For the rack rate I'd probably rather play 1 or 3 rather than the Ravines. I also enjoy the course, just not the price.

The weather is shaping up to be the usual for Friday (rain) but I'm looking to walk Marengo Ridge, which I'd consider a poor man's Ravines course. $12 to walk 18 holes, $18 to ride.

Thunderhawk was in great shape this past Friday
they've put a new combo tee setup on their scorecard called Bronze (6350ish), combo between brass (6600) and silver (6100) which we played for our group event
lots of scorched golf balls still left in the native grass areas where they had controlled burns earlier this spring

And Arg69, I think i've seen some Midlane deals sub-$50 with cart on weekends.

I haven't played there yet, but may do so this summer.

Sweet. My goal of having a combo tee set on every course in the country is one step closer. :partytime2:

Yeah, Midlane is on the short list for this summer. If you happen to spot a deal, do post it to the forum.

So to make a golf post, mostly, went to Springbrook to play as the day got totally F'd up. Lawyers. Why don't they spend more time screwing their significant others as opposed to people who pay them? Hey, does that make me a pimp by paying someone to screw me?

Any hoo...pulled an Adam...no practice balls, a couple of swings with a club or two and no putts. Got paired up with a dentist from Naperhell. A wonderful guy. Seriously.

We teed off around tooth hurty. Sorry...had to do that for Gramps...you know how he likes the old man/dental humor.

The dentist is like us...a golf addict...reads golf books...has traveled a ton to play, 36 in a day is nothing to him and we compared courses in common. He did a "trip of Open Championship" courses of Scotland...played all the Bandon courses...he had a great list. Threw out a "what was the best ever" and he responds with...Chicago Golf Club. And he had just played it with Connie D from Cantigny. I won't do it justice to describe it as he did which was basically golf perfection. I asked if he took pictures and he chuckled and said he "tried." The Chicago Golf Club will let you take all the pictures you want. As long as they are taken with a real camera. Cell phones are forbidden. Gave him a come on...you have to be kidding and he said he played with Connie and the pro and the pro stopped him from taking cell phone pics.

Then he threw in this little tidbit. He had the chance to play Augusta National...and couldn't play. His BFF went...shot 79 from the Member's tees...they played the par 3 course...and stayed in the Crow's Nest. They had dinner in the member's dining room...access to the ANGC wine cellar (which is one of the best in the world but isn't talked about) and then his friend and son played the members tees the next day.

Had I known, I would have responded to the Chicago Golf Club with a "oh yeah, Adam insults me about math" but that might not have had the same value. Anyway, I golfed today. For V...didn't see a single fish jump.

I've been wanting to kick the tires on a Fly Z+ for a while now. A buddy of mine swears by Chicago Bills as far as competitive prices are concerned. Anyone here have any experience with the place that they'd be willing to share?

I like that they have a range where I assume I can demo and tinker with some equipment before deciding if I'm going to pull the trigger, but I haven't been there yet. Probably stop there Thursday night on the way home from work.

Yeah that place is ridiculous but it's all we got. Hope it was a nice bucket

I'm in sales, so I can find a way to pretty much sell anything, but I don't see any value in the players advantage card. For $20 I get $1 off each bucket of balls? It takes 20 buckets to break even on the stupid card.

This is the same group that sends out a promo that you get a free cup of coffee with purchase of a large bucket before 9am on week days. Nice promo there, better put up velvet ropes to hold the line in place. For the promo you get A STYROFOAM CUP OF POT COFFEE that most places have for free, they send out a promo email for it.

The parking system there sucks rocks. Unlike the street parking in Chicago, you can't buy parking in 10 minute increments. I believe there's a jump from 1 hour to 3 hours, so if you take a chance with the lesser amount, you had better haul b*lls back to your vehicle.

Hadn't hit balls in over a month, used the cleaning lady coming by as a perfect excuse to sneak out this morning.
Spent two hours this morning practicing at Makray Memorial in Barrington. I've never played the course, but have been there for a wedding. It's only about three miles from my town home so very convenient.

Man do I suck- I need to get my net set up in my "home office" because I need to reteach myself how to hit a golf ball. Weight gain and lack of practice has lead me to forgetting how to transfer weight to my lead foot and pivot properly among other things. Embarrassing.

Makray's a nice course, the green have always been great when I've played there. However, there's no apron. The putting surface is bordered by a wall off rough. I also think it's a little on the expensive side, $100ish prime time. But, if you get a deal, it's great.
Thanks, the course looks fantastic! Practice putting green was recently top dressed but rolled like a dream. After frustrating with poor iron practice, my mood quickly changed as I was putting like a young Ben Crenshaw. They have those half size practice cups on the green as well- love those for straight four footers.

I went to Chicago Bill's a couple weeks ago to try drivers. Yes, they will let you try clubs on the range. I don't like hitting of mats (even for drivers) so I asked if I could go down to the grass portion of the range and hit and they said no problem. They will hook you up with balls as well. I didn't check out prices or anything else in the store so can't comment on that.
