Fox Broadcast - US Open

This coverage is awful and i'm taking the "i want espn back" as a joke. ESPN is worse then FOX, in fact i could do better then ESPN with an iphone and a few walkie talkie's

All the cameramen keep zooming in on the player when they hit a putt so we don't get to see whether the ball goes in the whole.

I've never seen a broadcast this stupid.

It's less about quality and more about what I was used to -- like when you haven't had a McDonald's hamburger in a while...you know it's not the best hamburger you ever had, but you know what your getting and it will be exactly what you expect! I'm missing the experience I was looking forward to...

Had to run out for a bit and made the mistake of turning on PGA tour radio. Fox should just sync their video with that and fire all their talent. The difference in quality is absolutely breathtaking.

This US Open venue and Fox broadcast is ridiculous. I mean, come on, can't they find someone besides Scott Mc Carron and Jay Delsing as analysts? Holly Sonders is there for only one reason, plastic surgery was a success. The course would be a great place to build a gravel pit and the greens look like an old shag carpet I once had. If they want a ridiculous challenge they could put a big bunker in the green, wait The shark already did that. Maybe a couple trees planted on the green would suffice.

On a positive note, since I spent all day yesterday bitching, the color seems much better today, the grass significantly greener. Since I know the grass didn't change that much overnight, I'm guessing Fox has come up with a camera filter that shows it better. I've actually been able to see the ball in the fairways, today, and I didn't see a ball land all day yesterday.

Today's coverage is much better than yesterday's. I do like Greg Norman, and Brad Faxon, but could do without Joe Buck (but at least he's not Gus Johnson; he really bugs me!) I do like the use of the tracer, and their efforts to shade the contours of the greens. The production has annoyed me a bit, because they are too slow in showing where shots land, and they cut away too quickly from the ball as putts approach the hole.

I'm sure they'll continue working out the kinks.

I did laugh several times during Phil's featured group coverage yesterday. Brooks would say something incorrect and you could see it, but Brooks never corrected himself. The best was when he kept saying "that spot that looks like a coin in front of Watson's ball is the marker indicating the green." Phil then moved his coin from Bubba's line, and Brooks continued talking about how it was not a coin, but the green markers. Watch the monitor, Mark!!

A lot of things bugged me yesterday in the Fox broadcast.[list]
[*]The very delayed cut away to the next player.
[*]One of the announcers was whispering to a support staff with his mic still on.
[*]They showed just the top-5 leaders scores in the bottom right score box the entire time which never changed because the leaders were all in the clubhouse (rotate the damn scores so I can see where everyone stands)
[*]My biggest annoyance was it seemed like they only showed the player's score after he finished a hole. I'm used to the CBS/NBC process of as soon as they focus on the player, the name and standing score are shown. I saw so many shots of players and had no idea where they were standing until they finally finished the hole.

Overall the coverage is better today, but, as others have said, the production crew switches to the forward cameras way too late on tee shots. It's disorienting.

Meh...at least there was 11 hours of coverage yesterday and today...Buck is meh and I actually prefer O'Donohue...Norman is fine which makes him ten billion times better than Miller...Pavin needs a lot of work but at least he ain't McCord...Flesch is ok...Menefee has to pass a golf test first or be limited to football...

That shot of Sergio, Adam, Dustin and their caddies from ground level was excellent. Norman’s comment on Stevie when he caddied for him during that shot was good stuff. Thoroughly enjoying the show. Watching the best players in the world on a challenging course with plenty of wide angles makes for fun viewing. Fox is holding shots too instead of quickly cutting to another angle which I find refreshing.

The best parts out the streaming video is how the golf constantly freezes and buffers but the commercial breaks are flawless!

The biggest problem I have seen was shown when Patrick Reed hit his shot into number 1. He hit his second (or third) into the right bank nearly into the fescue, the camera man zoomed in where the ball was in the middle of the screen and Norman said "Now watch this". The ball continued to roll probably 30-40 yards off of the left side of the green but you would have no clue because all you saw was the ball rolling, no perception of where it was in relation to the green. Then, they cut away showing other shots and magically back to Reed tapping in for par. I would really love to see HOW he played that shot rather than just the fact that he obviously played it. That situation exemplified most of the problems being faced throughout the coverage.

Faxon seems underutilized, to me. He's actually looks and sounds comfortable, compared to the other first-timers (and Weiskopf, who has always been awful).

I rained a bit last night and the grass responded a bit. USGA supposedly had some water going during the night for a few minutes but nobody will say for certain.

Yes. It looks kinda like a little robot, one of those LEO camera robots that goes in a building to find the bad guy. Sorta creepy, like that little guy from the movie Short Circuit.
