Is this in the bag now? So he went from the milled to the Spider back to the milled and now back to a Itsy Bitsy?

Interesting that he would stop the line just past the face. Maybe he feels a full line going back would be distracting. I guess I could see that.

But anyway... TM... Come on, surely you have something like this going retail soon.

Reminds me of Spieth's top line. Basically a top line here too.

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Need these with different neck options for retail. As well as with milled carbon faces, not that crap aluminum milled on their new line of putters or the old plastic inserts like this one.
I think this proto has a different black insert than retail. Maybe a black steel insert. The grooves are etched not formed like the plastic (surlyn) retail.

It's different than retail for sure, but it looks like one of the older Pure Roll Surlyn inserts to me. If it is, then it would be an interesting difference between this and Day's proto. The ball comes off the 80/20 insert on the Day proto a little hotter than the standard Spider S with the Surlyn insert. If Rose has the Surlyn insert, it's to soften the feel and deaden the impact off the putter a little.

The full line on the Spider S head can be distracting, but the clean look of the Jason Day proto takes some getting used to, as well. This is an interesting compromise and one that makes sense given that JR has a top line on one of his milled TM protos.

I love seeing that more guys are using these. I really hope they release something close to the JDay proto head. It is so much better than the retail spiders.

I was lucky enough to meet JR through this site several years back. Great guy and been pulling for him ever since. Got to play the course he grew up on and honestly think he switches putters too much. He misses shorties and makes bombs, and it seems like every other tourney he is tinkering with something new. I have seen him putt more consistently with blade style putters...just sayin'....Akron was awful...and I have played there....I would know...just sayin'...LOL

Do these slant neck Spiders that Day and Rose use have any toe hang?
I will let jll62 answer for sure, but with that flow neck these have to have toe hang.

That seems like quite a bit for a mallet. As I recall, the higher the MOI the higher the effect of toe hang.

If you don't want it, you pick the single bend, face balanced version of a mallet, which always seem to be more popular with the masses. Those of us who like to putt with a mallet and also like the way the toe hang helps the putter swing open and closed will putt with these. I don't see how MOI really enters into the discussion. When I'm picking a putter, all I want to know is whether or not I can consistently start the ball on the line I want with the speed I want. I'm certainly not thinking about relationship between MOI and toe hang on a mallet style head.

Here's the toe hang of the Jason Day IB prototypes. It's the same as on the retail Spider S slant.

His tee to green stats are certainly more impressive than his putting figures.

NIce!

Basically TM pros can take an IBSpider, pick their hosel, pick their top line, pick their face. Sounds like an opportunity for their "Vault".

JR needs to hang out with Poults at Lake Nona and take some putting tips. IJP changes putters too, but he sticks with Newport style or #7. Same with Luke Donald. Justin should take note and seek assistance from his fellow Brits.

Hopefully TM takes the hint with 2 of their premier guys using these heads. I always thought this was their best mallet design and they've should just keep it in their offering each year with different variations.
