Anyone Still Gaming an Older/Ancient Driver

I've got a MacGregor NVG2 Draw (2006). It came factory with a Fujikura S Flex. It's a titanium head with a pretty deep face. Works really well with low tee'd ball and out of the bottom of the face. I still rotate it into play about 1 round a quarter, if Im off with the others. I really wouldn't mind cutting it down to 43" and maybe trying another shaft. Only reason I moved on was to try new adjustable heads and weights. I really prefer the steel face sound it has over the sounds coming off the composite heads I've tried lately.

I have a Mizuno T Zoid from 1996. I'll post pics. I will never be rid of it. Still plays fantastic and it's only out of my bag because I just got my JPX 900. It will be cool to show past vs. present Tech.

I have a SLDR 460 with a Rogue Silver 125 MSI 60 Tour X that I truly enjoy and it is a few years old?, 3 yrs or so?, ancient by GolfWRX standards...lol

It's been a long time since I have been around, quite a break from the game due to work and family commitments.

However the hunger is returning and I am looking forward to playing a lot more in 2016.

 

Going back through some of my old posts I found discussions about Callaway FT-5s, Cleveland Hi-Bores, Cobra LD, Ping K15, plus others and was wondering if anyone is still gaming some of these older/ancient Drivers.

 

I remember reading some great stories about how good they were for accuracy and distance. Many of them must be cheap as chips to buy now.

 

Is the new stuff really any better, apart from being shiny?

 

I still have a soft spot for a couple that I have gamed in the past and looking to become reacquainted with a some of them to regain the confidence I once had.

 

I can't be the only one living in the past?

 

Dont repaint them, paint strip them. The matt satin finish is a beauty.

I just got back from 4 days at Bandon. Played all the courses....didn't hit a bad drive the entire stay.

 

Ping Rapture w/MR Diamana BlueBoard....there is no substitute.

To this day, by far the longest club I've ever hit was the Ping iSi Titanium/ iSi Tec Titanium, with an original grafalloy blue shaft. Looking for another one for my "favourite clubs ever" I'm trying to build. G10 with with the proto "by you" was almost just as long

I play both the original Nike SQ Tour 460 and the Sumo2 Tour depending on the conditions and layout. Totally overlooked but perhaps the most solid drivers Nike made

I was playing an RBZ Tour for awhile but spun it too much so I have gone back to old reliable 910D3

I am a believer in sticking to what works no matter what yr the club was produced. With that said, I went from 983k to R5dual to R11s to G30sftec(played one season) and then newly acquired...Mizuno JPX 900. 5 drivers in 13 yrs is prolly below the curve for WRX. That's a life span of 2.6yrs per driver. Hopefully, I can break past the 3yr barrier with my latest combo...going to try lol

i have these too and couldnt agree more. got them for next to nothing at a play it again sports. i was a nike hater but cant argue with the results

Not saying your new driver won't improve your game, but I wouldn't count on it. The 983k is hard to to beat for overall driving performance.
