At a company tournament years ago everyone around me was winning carts, bags, clubs, quality balls etc. When my name was called to claim my 'prize' the owner of the company handed me a plastic bag that was meant to hang off of your pull cart to put cold drinks in. It was literally a thick plastic bag with 80's pink and turquoise all over it. It wasn't even insulated so it was pretty much a reusable shopping bag. When I got back to my table all my buddy's were laughing at me. I can't blame them. I ended up giving the bag to an old lady in payroll. Worst gift ever.

My girlfriend got me a golf ball marking tool that required you to lock in your initials (like a printing press), somehow layer a piece of ink paper on the ball, then clamp the ball in and stamp the sucker with your initials. On top of that you had to coat it with some sort of polish to help the ink stay durable. It was an absolute mess, ended up with ink all over the place. Had to mark a dozen balls with my blurry initials while my girlfriend watched with excitement. I then conveniently lost it during a move.

 

 

 

She also gave me one of those fake golf clubs that holds 72 oz of liquid and has a tap...awful but I could at least see the novelty in that.

 

This is after repeated requests for no golf gifts for the holidays.

My worst gift was the same golf ball monogramming tool. As if I'm going to intentionally gouge a new V1x. I gave it to my kids and they love it. I've gotten lots of "Official PGA" merchandise that all sucks. Hand held ball washers, those static lined distance measuring monocles, all garbage. Honourable mention to the 2000 (yep, 2000) blue and white 2" Montreal Canadiens tee's. I only use white lol.

I came home after a round of golf that consisted of numerous three putts and mentioned to my girlfriend I think I need a new putter. Next week she gives me a putter by the brand of Knight that was about 37" long and 6 degrees upright with a graphite shaft. She had a friend who had a friend who made golf clubs apparently and apparently not very well. It was such a nice gesture that I couldn't tell her it was the worst putter I had ever seen and ended up lugging the POS in my bag and switching out at the course for about 6 months.

When we first started dating my now wife got me a sweet screw on cup holder for a push cart (That I don't have). O ya and this which I have to say I surprisingly have used a few times...

My dad got my brother (who doesn't golf at all), himself and I matching plaid pullover wind vests about 10yrs ago. Needless to say, yes, we had to take the obligatory picture all wearing the vest. Folded it up that night and it never saw the light of day again :-).

When I started golfing 5 years ago I was really excited. I put "golf stuff" on my Christmas list. I lucked out. only 1 out of the 4 things that I received was unusable. I got a Mariners towel, Mariners tees, Mariners balls (Callaway, which I never used because I didnt want to lose them... then they got lost in a move). The bad thing was a static distance finder. The kind that is basically a plastic tube with distances printed on the plastic lens.

 

I learned my lesson. Now I only put specific things on my list. I'm lucky in that my family actually purchases EXACTLY what is on the list. It works out great.

I don't remember the product name but it was billiards putting - multi-colored golf balls that you putt into these make-believe holes for Christmas from friends. Never opened the box.

Not a gift for me, but my girlfriends brother (about 15 and trying to get into golf) bought himself a pouch to hold tees, balls, etc. that was tan and shaped like a male specific body part. On the "sack" it said "it takes balls to golf." I couldn't let the kid keep the thing.

My father, who does not play golf, gave it to me. Said a friend of his invented it and had a patent. If I can find it I will take a pic but it's been 10 years or so and I can't remember where I put it. I honestly think it's the dorkiest golf gadget ever.

My loving wife gave me the worst of all. I needed a new set of grips for my clubs (told her about it) and I'm a huge Clemson fan (I'm a graduate from there), so she somehow finds me a set of 13 Clemson logo grips that are solid orange. Now the color I could have lived with, but the grips were the cheapest, crappiest material I've ever felt on a grip... They were slick as plastic and hard as rocks. I would have had to use pine rosin on my hands if I had installed them. My wife harassed me for years afterwards about when I was going to put them on my clubs... I felt like a dog every time she would bring it up, and I'd have yo make up some lie to not hurt her feelings. :-/

My girlfriend's father got me the stupid gopher headcover from caddyshack, and a mini golf putt thing for the toilet. Literally a plastic putter and ball thing with a mini "green" so u can And putt at the same time...

 

Crappy gifts but thought is what counts. I don't ever ask for gifts because I'm never satisfied lol.
