Ping iBlade irons: shot at the 2016 Players Championship (In-hand pics of Louis Oosthuizen's irons a

Are you guys adding Cushin to the Modus 105s? They are pretty light, aren't they?

I have the 105's in the I-e's and love the shaft, but regret not getting the cushin.

Not due to feel, but I prefer a shaft in the 110-115 gr range and when the 105's are trimmed, they are likely at about 100 or less (per Ping CS).

The cushin would add back +10 gr of static weight.

I can't stop looking at pictures of these, something about them.

That's incredible restraint if you're on this website often. I need to find something I like and am fit for and never log onto this site again lol!

I change too much to list it. Working on that...

Wonder how long before the complaints about the durability of the brushed finish will start. Looking at my dealers demo set it pretty much confirms these aren't chrome plated. Lots of fine scratches on the sole and many places where the brushed finish is gone replaced by a shiny spot seemingly from something in the soil larger than sand. It is even more apparent on the face where the darker finish is replaced by shiny scratches from soil and ball interaction with the face. Might show that a brushed surface finish in 431 is more susceptible to visible finish removing scratches than a chrome plated 17-4 like the S55. This demo set is less than a week old with a reasonable amount of use.

our demo 7i showed up yesterday. from the first swing i was impressed with the feel, and all the guys in our shop agreed that they feel and look good. we had a good 15-20mph wind into us yesterday and with the x100 i thought they flew a little higher without ballooning than my S56 with S300. after about 20 swings they might be a couple yards shorter than mine, but that could be from anything from wind, quality contact, etc. i'd have to get on our flightscope to really compare.

can anybody comment on the size of the neck on the fitting head vs production head? a few of us agreed that the neck/hosel area looks too fat and bulky on the fitting head.

good club though and i'll have to give it serious consideration.

Anyone that expects irons that are constantly hitting the turf and small stone and sand and the such should not expect them to look like new forever. I am a stickler about keeping them nice and I personally use headcovers on about four irons in the set just to cut down on bag chatter.

I have no doubts these will not stay new looking forever, but again... they are irons and not fine china. I do appreciate your comments and agree, there will be those bashers that will find something wrong with everything!

would think these would wear similar to glides, which people are generally happy with

Does anybody know when the lefty heads will be available for demos and fittings. I called a bunch shops in the area and nobody has anything. It doesn't sound like they'll getting them at all. WTF.

I have been waiting for these irons for awhile being an avid S55 player. I hit the demo and I did not notice any issues with the finish. I called and talked to PING and the finish on these is called Hydro-Pearl Chrome so they are in fact Chrome plated. The Hydro Pearl Chrome is supposed to help channel water and grass out the groove faster to minimize fliers. I just wanted to pass along some info that I got straight from calling...

I could not resist. Been a ping guy for so long and these are the best ever. Can't wait for my order. Specs are;

Standard length, black dot, Z-Z65 shaft with Cushin inserts and a swing weight of D2. Should have them next week and I can't wait.

I here good things about the Z-Z shaft. What is that shaft similar to? May be a bad question. I hit the CFS shaft the other day and was impressed. I've been playing PX 6.0 that I was professionally fit to by a top 100 club fitter just for reference.

I change too much to list it. Working on that...

Mine came today. We've been very busy at the shop, so haven't had a lot of time to hit on the sim. I did do the 7 iron for a few swings and the 3 iron. 3 iron looks like a blade at address, but it's the easiest to hit 3 I've ever owned...and it doesn't just balloon up in the air. Penetrating flight, good spin, easy to keep on target.

S400 shaft feels more solid than the S300s I've played forever and have been hitting in the demo. Different but in a good way.

In love with these irons so far...can't wait to get them on the course.

I did a fitting Monday up here

Zz65's were the shaft of choice .. + 3/4, suggest hard stepping once

They had recoils .... but not the protos

They do spin a little more than s55's

Good feel and love the satin look from address

I've been lusting over these irons since the 'spy" pictures came out and now they're released, I'm very, very close to pulling the trigger on a set.

Can anyone help me with some ideas on shafts? Being located where I am in the UK, I only have a few choices of fitters to try out and none of them seem to have the full selection of shafts in!

However, I did manage to hit some balls on a GC2 today and I was getting pretty similar numbers from both the Modus 3 and the S300. Give or take a bit here or there, both had clubhead speed around 85MPH and a carry of 170, with the S300 edging the Modus on spin - 5900 vs. 5100.

They didn't have the Project X or AWT to try (yet...) but what could I expect from those shafts?

First of all...I think their GC2 miscalculated your clubhead speed a bit. To carry 170, you're probably closer to 90mph.

Project X is typically a higher launching but lower spinning shaft than DG...a more straight line ball flight. Personally, even if PX fit me better, I'd still prefer the feel of DG or any stepped shaft. PX just feels harsh to me.

AWT is lighter weight than DG and with Ascending Weight in the shafts, the long irons will be a lot lighter than DG in the same club. So overall, you'd probably see higher flight than DG. The benefit will be that you will likely swing the long irons a little faster and hit them higher. I hit the AWT 2.0 in the s55 a lot this summer and it was a good shaft...but I'd probably need to go x-stiff in that shaft because I was swinging it faster than Dynamic Gold and I just flat out don't like the feel of x-stiff iron shafts.

I'm probably the worst person to ask, though. To me, there's no substitute for Dynamic Gold. Nothing else feels right.

Probably me misremembering... might be picking out average speed and the best distance!

Can you expand upon 'straight line ball flight' for me, please? Not quite following you there.

That sounds interesting... the longer irons were playing on my mind a little with the weight of the DGs.

All opinions equally relevant! :D

Sure. So, Dynamic Gold is lower launching but higher spinning than PX. Both shafts could show the same peak height in ball flight, but they'd get there differently. DG would launch low and the spin would have the ball climb sharply...so if you saw it from the side, the flight would appear to climb in an upward curve. PX will launch higher and have less curve in its climb...because of less spin. If a player hits the ball way too high because of spin, he/she could be losing distance. PX makes sense for them.

I looked at my well worn Glide wedges and other than a few noticeable places that a stone probably scratched (well over a year old) the faces are not totally scratched like the week old iBlade demo set. The face of the Blades appears darker than the Glide faces which accentuates the scratches. It would lead one to think the plating on the Blades might be softer than the plating on the wedges. There is no comparison to my two year old S55s that have very heavy use and look new compared to the Blade faces. If nothing else an indication the plating on the S55s is more durable. Softer plating may be part of the softer feel some people claim the iBlades have (I'm not one of them). One very big positive of the iBlades is they have gone back to a traditional length ferrule compared to the stubby one on the more recent S irons. Looks much better and contradicts Ping's statement of a few years ago that their pros didn't mind the short ferrules (guess they did mind)..

Just ordered a set today. Nothing exotic. What's pings typical turn around time on orders?

I ordered my set the first day of pre orders. Still waiting on my set. However,I did get steelfibers,so that may be hold up. Most of the time Ping is 5 day turnaround time.

What kind of steelfiber did you get. I am about to place an order for the i110'same

I did the i95 stiff. Soft stepped once. But,in all honestly,I don't see a difference between soft stepped and straight in. Even though the fitter said it would be more beneficial.
