Back in 2017 Grillester Scotee and I met up in Oregon. He and his bride and I had a nice dinner

at the Wild Horse Casino in Pendleton and Scotee and I played the Wild Horse course the next

day. 

 

The year before that Grillester Michael C. and I met up at Kenny Perry's course in Kentucky.

We played 36 holes the first day, had dinner and then played another 18 the next day.

 

It's been 4-5 years now since these meet ups but I still think about them. I play golf with my

golf buds here at home in Bama but those rounds are normal rounds and not particularly

memorable and over time I don't remember one round from another. I have fond memories

of the time I spent with Scotee and his bride and the time spent with Michael C. These are

memories that last and I am grateful for the camaraderie and the fun we had.

 

I am happy to meet up with any fellow Grillester or WRXer to play some golf and have fun.

Even better, I would really enjoy a Grille Golf adventure where many of us show up. I think

all who would show up would have a blast and make lasting memories...so let's decide on

a time and place and make it happen!

Good idea maybe in the future I will get where I can ride long distances again

The snow from this morning is pretty much gone by now.  It's still pretty chilly out though.  From beach weather to a snow storm all in one day.  Only in Canada you say?  It will be interesting to see what sort of "frost damage" we have suffered with all the new growth in our flowering shrubs, trees and perennials.  I suspect that the Magnolias may have been cooked!

It is gotten crazy here. Yesterday it was 80* and then last night our temp dropped to 45* in fact my furnace came on just now. Supposed to be in high 60s today then back up for Friday. I know what they call inland for us some 60 miles away they had freeze warnings out for last night. I know they are calling for some nasty thunderstorms and such for Saturday. They moved the 9 and Dine to Friday afternoon. Had to resign the sheet and there was not as many names on it as before. I figured they may cancel it because last time this happened not a lot signed up for it on the reschedule. And I can not blame management if they have to throw away or give away a bunch of food

Seems like many years ago that I watched Colt Knost win the US am on TV. I followed his career

a little bit after that.  He played some on the PGA Tour but didn't last long. I don't remember if he

just didn't play well enough or if he had medical issues. He used to come on PGA Tour radio now

and then and he's a character. I like the guy. I think it was him when he was playing he used to

set up with a crazy amount of shaft lean. Maybe I can find an old swing video of him.

 

Anyway, I'm always prone to ramble................been hearing him lately on TGC live coverage of

the PGA Tour events. I hope they keep him on because he's a really good analyst and has some

personality.

 

EDIT" the videos of his old set up and swing seem to be gone; just the more recent

videos after he had revamped his swing.

So I had my second lesson of the year last night with the assistant pro. After a couple mins chat while I stretched I hit a couple wedges, after about 3 he took the wedge off me and gave me a 6 iron saying "We're not here for you to show off you can hit the easiest club in the bag". After a few 6 irons and more talk, this time related to how the past 3 weeks golf has been and if the changes are setting in. I told him they are and feel pretty natural now, I've even developed a new feel out of the required change to make knock down shots easier. 

 

After that semi-brag and a few 6 irons flying straight he pulls the 3 wood from my bag stated "litmus test time" (he knows I hate 3 woods), if I can hit this I can hit anything. Thankfully the first 2 were flush, he then pulls the phone out to record what I'm doing to review against last lesson. At this point the wheels came off, the demon popped his head out and I top 3 shots on the run 😞

 

We laughed then resolved to sort that, it seems that I'm subconsciously leaning the handle back on a 3 wood thus lifting the leading edge off the ground so rather than actual tops I appear to be more thinning the 3 wood than actually topping it. We made a small set up change with the wood and while feels horrible currently seems to make a real difference. 

 

So with 10 mins of a lesson gone he actually says "I'm not sure I can really charge you to just stand here and watch you hit it solid, is there anything in your game that actually needs work" I told him my pitching is not as good as I would like so we set about looking at that. I pull a 54 wedge, and he tells me to hit to the small white tyre which is 52 yards away. First shot pitches short and bounces in the tire, 2nd shot just flies over and the third lands in the tire. At this point he's giving me the "are you s***ing me look" I defend my self saying there is a nasty pull in there somewhere and thankfully a few shot later it shows up. After some videoing, slow motion moves and talk we believe it's due to excessive wrist action on the shorter shots, it's making distance control less consistent but that's mitigated by the amount I play and my skill level. The real issue with the extra wrist action is the delivery/unc*cking of the wrists isn't as consistent as in a full swing and therefore I'm delivering different amounts of loft and also occasionally releasing the club too early so it's a little shut at impact thus the pull. The fix is to (in my head and feels) hit pitch shots like Jason Day or Steve Stricker with no wrist hinge, this isn't what actually happens but the feel makes a difference. 

 

Next lesson is in a months time and were addressing the short game, I'm excited about this as it's actually my favorite part of the game to work on and practice.

Colt came into my location in Scottsdale a few years back and I put him on 3D. He's a nice guy. Tour courses are getting longer by the minute now and he doesn't have the length to challenge them.

I can tell the weather is getting warmer in the good old US of A. Grillers are out and about, gardening, playing golf and just generally enjoying the warmer weather. BUT, think of all us southerners shivering, and sitting here waiting for the personal stories of home life and golf boo boos. Even Sco who has always been my saviour in the past seems to have disappeared.

 

Gus and the girls are not happy, they have discarded the past two days food due to poor attendance.

I apologies for my poor attendance the grille over the past week but it's been a hectic one. 

 

Works been super busy so has kept my during the day activity to a minimum and the evenings just seem to have filled up over the past couple of weeks. 

 

I did manage to get two rounds of golf in over the weekend though so that was nice, played pretty solid with rounds of 75 and 77. The greens are still not great at my place yet, while they have done a great job of getting the speed up and the roll decent, the greens have still not recovered from the hollow tining carried out at Easter. Due to the severe lack of rainfall and cold nights since then the grass is not growing which has left the greens fast and bumpy which is not conducive to holing putts. 

 

On another note, I won £170 last note in a betting syndicate run within my golf group. It's a simple format, each week you pick a football (soccer to you yanks) team in the premier league to win over another team. If your team wins you go through, they draw or lose and you are out. Winners go through to the next round and so on. This was our first go at it and we managed 5 rounds only with just two of us in the last round over the weekend. The only stipulation is you are not allowed to pick a team twice.  So now I'm £160 better off and wifey is already trying to spend it on her lol while I'm thiinking it will pay for the new vintage driver and putter I've bought.

My short game always got me through. Really it was the only way I was able to play competetive golf back in the day and I am resorting to it a lot now. I practiced the short game a lot when I was young and it paid off. During my healing process I practiced my short game a lot due to my swing restrictions. It has gotten sharp again and I plan on keeping it sharp.

I am here.  Nothing noteworthy to report.

 

The weather has been cold and damp since the snow of a week ago.  I've been working away a bit at a time on the gardens.  Yesterday was a big day planting my first new plants of the season.  It's a bit early as the ground is still cold, but I'm afraid that supplies of plant materials may run scare this year as most folks have some sort of gardening plans or renovation ideas.  Been thinking about ordering more plants materials ahead to ensure supply.  Will probably pick up some shrubs on Friday to finish off the front yard redo from 18 months ago.  The backyard will continue to be a work in progress for quite some time yet.  Adding the patio cover has changed things quite a bit in terms of sunlight that we get so I'm going to have to rethink what happens in that area.  Had to cut out an old and dying hydrangea with an axe.  Not sure what will take its place.

European Super League was a joke, like saying those that made the NFL playoffs this year are going to join a separate league where they make a play off every year. The teams that had signed up are only the biggest clubs in total worth, not in actual footballing presence. Tottenham and Arsenal are lucky to make the top half of the league currently.

practice than I have in many years. My short game is not sharp but it's getting better.

Well at our ages we do not need to be pounding balls every day especially me. If I do not go to the course I will chip some around the house here and chip into my net just gives me feel. When I go to the range I hit only 30 balls or so. Anymore that that makes my back hurt and stiffen up.

My problem for 18 months now has been Polymyalga, which is a condition where the bodies immune system attacks the body, there is no test for it so you are tested for everything else it could be, then by elimination it is diagnosed. Streroids are the treatment that have to be reduced monthly, and with me twice now it has returned near the end of treatment. Difficult to walk or do anything physical, but I do it anyway otherwise I would just be sitting still. Docs this week start third attempt and the steroids will at least give me six months pain free. The good thing with the steroids is all the pain initially disappears within 24 hrs

 

On the plus side, still living and painting😁

I hear you loud and clear. I've been going every other day and just hitting 1 large bucket (110 balls)

going through the bag and then using the last 20 balls or so for some short game practice.

 

For me as time goes on and I get further away from my surgery I'm feeling better and better. Also

just had blood work and a Pet Scan done and my lymphoma is keeping in check so I have pretty

much a clean bill of health and am not limited by any medical issues....other than old age😃

 

Gonna play at RTJ tomorrow.

A small country town has a 9 hole course which is the only sport they have been able to play during the pandemic. Some idiot drove over it with a disc plow and destroyed over half the fairways and greens, the course being maintained on a volunteer basis has no money to repair it. The good news is they have caught the twit and he could be forced to pay.

That's just horrific. 

 

Why did he do it? Spite, jealousy or just because he wanted to ruin others lives? 

 

I wouldn't want to be him living in a small town, word will spread quick and he may get some harsh treatment.

Some folks just can't stand to see someone else happy.  I'll bet that they had some sort of weird justification for doing it...

It was not reported if he was annoyed or why he did it, possibly find out next week when he appears before the judge.

I hope the judge is a golfer. Besides monetary payment a good community service would have this knucklehead work beside the crew restoring the course, preferably with a shovel or rake in his hand until restoration is complete.
