It's a rainy day...

 

I think it's supposed to be a rainy week.  I wonder if the gov't is now restricting the weather as they wouldn't want people outside in their gardens gawd forbid; we might get another wave...

Contemplating the merits of a DIY landscape project that will involve a lot of digging and heavy lifting.  I made some phone calls yesterday for quotes/information and haven't had a single one returned.  I guess that the pros are all booked solid!

 

10 years ago I wouldn't have thought twice about taking these jobs on.  Now, I'm a little less certain if the body will hold up, but I suppose if you don't try you won't know.  I mean, after all, with golf forbidden, what's a guy to do? 

 

I can take this on in chunks to make it doable.  At least that's what I'm thinking.  Tackle a gravel border between the concrete patio and foundation wall which is currently a border garden.  Then a shallow edging wall on the opposite side of the patio to provide a cleaner break between gardens and patio.  Lastly, if I have any inclination or energy left, creating a new border garden extending from the patio to the end of the house.

 

None are big jobs.  A crew of two could handle this in 3 days I would think, so I would allow a week per segment for myself at my age.  The biggest hassle is arranging for materials and any special tools, sourcing and getting deliveries of bulks items and heavy materials like stone and pavers.

 

I have been doing the prep work, from planning to moving plants around.  I fear that if we hire it out it won't get done until mid summer which would sort of suck.  I guess I'll wait and see until I hear back with respect to timelines and cost.

Rad you will be proud of me--- Yesterday was a banner day for me health wise. Felt better than I have any day the past year. Well ended up reshafting those S-56 Ping Irons I had lying around. Ended up putting the KBS C tapers in them R flex 110 gm. Did not get to try them today had to take our little man for his heartworm treatment. He had them when we adopted him and the Humane Society is paying the tab. It was a big day for him so he is resting now. But tommorrow I plan on giving them a try. Playing in the annual scramble Saturday with my former company team. Got the call today. That paticular scramble I have played in it every year since it started. First 2 years our golf shop sponsored a hole and had 2 teams. The last 10 years or so I played with the team the company I ended up going to work had. I played on that team 3 years before I went to work there. We did not have the event last year due to Covid. So maybe I play the 56s will see how they do this week

I hope they do well for you and you like them though I know you are a MacDaddy at heart.

Speaking of Macs I still have my Mac Vip 1025CM combo blade/CB set on hand. I haven't

played with them since 2016. I also still have the forged VIP wedges that were milled from

blanks by WRXer NevadaGolfGuy. They are bada** wedges that will shred a ball good but

they just don't work for me. If you end up not liking the S56s maybe we can work a trade.

I know exactly where you are with this, getting older sucks because you look at jobs you could have completed easily and get annoyed at your inability to do them now. Our garden is large around an acre, and it had grown many and varied weeds all round the edges. i would normally use weed killer but unseasonal rain has made that impossible, the other option bending and pulling them out is not on. Waiting for my second childhood to emerge then I will be at it.

An acre is a large garden. Do you do canning as well? We had a garden that big when we lived in the country. I built an underground canning shed actually to keep all of the veggies we canned each year. We ate really well through the winter from it, plus we gave a lot of it away as well. It was a very cool thing.

We have several fruit trees and what we do not use we give away, canning seems too difficult for me. The only fruit we do not give away are mangoes and we can eat those until we are completely stuffed. A good portion of the garden is designated to native trees and shrubs.

Not sounding like golf is going to be happening anytime soon.  The powers that be responded to pleas to reopen courses by charging those that attempted to reopen and a few players found on premises with breaking the emergency measures act.  Very stiff fines involved.  It would seem that they intend to make this an issue that they are prepared to die on a hill over when they said that reopenings wouldn't be allowed until case counts have been substantially reduced, hospital admissions are well down and they begin to work their way through the surgical backlog.  It's not unrealistic to see the whole summer go up in smoke at this rate!  It surprises me that they are taking such a hard line when the science advisory table did not recommend closing in the first place.

 

When you're dealing with a stubborn gov't that has made a lot of mistakes and received plenty of criticism over its choices we shouldn't be surprised at this outcome... 😕

I feel sorry for you guys that seem to be going into or have gone into Lockdown since I'm happily coming out of lockdown and "seem" to be returning to normal life. 

 

This week we have builders in replacing the shower unit in the bathroom. Tray of the old one cracked several weeks ago and I'm getting tired of using a handheld shower head to shower or wait for a bath to run. 

 

On a better note, heading to the range tonight with the daughter for her weekly range session. Both kids hit balls at the weekend and were flushing it.

Not sure if this is tongue in cheek or not but it is correct in her fault is sucking the club inside on her takeaway. 

 

In itself it's not a swing issue but the problem is that once the club gets behind her too much, it becomes too heavy for her to get back to the ball with any control. Keeping the club infront/no more behind than in that swing means the club stays light enough for her to control. This will be more apparent once her new clubs arrive as her current clubs are too small for her now (I was shocked they were too small until I realised she's had them 3 years)

Friday 7th - Refereeing the clubs mixed pairs final

Saturday 8th - Monthly Stableford

Sunday 9th - Club Mens greensomes competition

Tuesday 11th - Short Game Lesson

Wednesday 12th - First Scratch League match of season against another club

Thursday 13th - Mens Open Tournament at Coxmoor Golf Club

Sunday 16th - Caddy for Daughters Junior Medal

Tuesday 18th - Club midweek medal

Saturday 22nd - Clubs Masters Tournament (Invite Only, must win a tournament previous year to qualify)

Sunday 23rd - County Club Knockout First Round match against another club

 Golf courses were never shut down here though for a few months early last year they only allowed

1 person per cart. Golf has grown in popularity since this all started precisely because it's a great

way to spend time outdoors and it's easy to socially distance. 

 

I understand the mistakes that were made early on because this was a new thing for everyone and

erring on the side of safety seemed the prudent thing to do. People who are still shutting down golf

courses now are morons........or worse.

Very, very sorry to hear this. As someone who takes the pandemic quite seriously, I still firmly believe that golf and virtually all outdoor recreation should not only be allowed, but encouraged -- with whatever safety protocols are deemed scientifically necessary on an activity-by-activity basis.

The argument being used is that they want to restrict movement between regions.  People who play golf travel outside of their region to do so.  While this maybe true for some, especially those in Toronto, I doubt that it's the general rule.

 

What this all comes down to is that the GTA (greater Toronto area) has been a dumpster fire from the outset.  It has been for a myriad of reasons, many politically motivated as much as bad behavior.  WE all now get to pay for those mistakes collectively.

 

There will be a day of reckoning.  That day will come in a little over a year's time when we have a provincial election.  I expect that there will be a change in gov't based entirely on how the current administration has handled the pandemic, but that doesn't help us play golf anytime soon...

That's an interesting take, but it doesn't really hold up, I don't think, because if everything is shut down (restaurants, etc.), what does it matter that someone comes in from out of town and plays golf outside and then goes home?

 

I guess it would reduce the amount of people traveling/flying from region to region who are willing to lie about the reason for their stays at hotels, etc.

 

Definitely not easy... 😞

We love mangoes. Don't know if you can get this spice there in Australia, but we like to put this Tajin on it. Very tasty, sweet & sour kind of, in keeping with Cinco de Mayo as well... our pup Roby gets curious every time I open anything of course, this would be too much for him 🐶😲 Definitely great on mangoes

No idea what this says about Australia but we can purchase this at a local large booze outlet. DW likes the sound of it, we will try it when mangoes are back in summer.

Well this is funny---- Ever since I have been hurt ( or on the beach as they say here) I have let my hair grow out like the old Hippie Stu days. Let the beard grow too and had the halfway ZZ Top thing going. Last night we were watching the GC and John Daly was on. I made the comment that the beard looked stupid on him and made him look old. My wife blurted out " no worse or stupid than you look plus it makes you look like you are 80 years old"  Now she has not said anything before which is normal for her. She has never said much about how I do things I guess that is why I have been married to her for 33 years. Well it had been itching some anyhow and so I went in and took my hair clippers with one of the guards on and trimmed it down quite a bit. Still have my almost shoulder hair though.
