I'm thinking as I type this that I haven't taken anything since the Aleve I had before I left for the course this morning.  Not bad considering this is three games in four days after a six week layoff!  It would take me a week to recover from 9 holes two years ago!  I did have a couple of glasses of wine with dinner and am nursing a brandy as I type, but other than those self medications, I feel quite fine... 

Thats my type of healing.

I had a friend who had a similar addiction to winning at judo, if he lost a competition fight he would go into a meltdown and not talk for days. Affected everyone around him but he did not care, addiction of any type eventually kills the spirit.

Obviously a holiday weekend, so everyone is playing golf, getting drunk, or keeping DW happy by doing exactly what you are told. Not a holiday in Australia but its only one day until it is officially winter, warmer weather on its way. One good thing about our winter is the fruit trees take advantage of the sub tropical climate and give up lots if fruit, today picked lemons, limes, and the last of the mandarins. Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary, 46, so a quiet day is on the cards.

Did the regripping job.  I had forgotten how much of a pain in the arse it is to remove old Winn grips!  Who ever invented those things needs to be talked to!  I also discovered that my new Adams 6 hybrid didn't have grip tape under the stock grip.  It was some sort of double sided plasticized stuff that was a beast to remove!  Git it off by spraying lots of solvent on and using a Scotch-brite pad.

 

Took my time installing the reminder grips to get the rib in the right spot.  Decided to off-set the grip to an slightly open face angle with my 5 hybrid as I have a tendency to hit a big draw with that club.  We'll see how that works out.  I have one of these Lamkin Sonar Calibrate grips on my driver and it has seemed to help with consistency with that club so I'm hoping that will carry over with the rest of my woods.

If I posted my thoughts about Winn grips and whoever invented them I may be banned from WRX. I flat refuse to install them for anyone. One of my buds bought some Winn grips at a local shop as they say to go. He told the guy he would let me shoot them on. The guy knows me well and told him you better let me install them here Stu will not mess with a Winn grip in fact he will throw you off his property if you drag up with a Winn grip in your hand. Yep he knows me well. So in a indirect way you know my thoughts

WE got a taste of Junuary on Friday as a cold front moved through with all day rain.  We needed it!  I was reading last night that we are having a moderate to severe drought here in Ontario.  I had been watering my lawn for a couple of weeks already which is more or less unheard of in these parts to be watering in May.

 

I used the term Junuary on purpose as that is how the month of June is described in the Okanagan Valley in BC.  Typically after a month's worth of 30°C temperatures in May they will get a cold spell of a couple weeks or more in June.  Based on our forecast, that will be our pleasure as well this month here in the Peninsula. 

 

I'm hoping to get my second shot of AZ this coming month so that we can begin to plan to go and see the kids.  The vaccination intervals between doses has been spread out here in an effort to get as many people done with at least one shot as quickly as possible.  Supplies of vaccines continues to be an issue, so we shall see.

 

No holiday weekend here in Canada as that was the previous weekend.  We're just mucking about with the regular routine such as that is.  Neighbour gave me a couple of Sedum clumps in pots to transplant as they are thinning out their garden.  My beds have gone on a growth spurt what with the copious amounts of compost I added, the heat of the previous weeks and some rain added to the mix.  I'm already thinking about digging up a few clumps of hostas myself and potting them to give away to whom ever might want them to create a bit more space.  It's always something!

I have been neglectful of the rest of WRX in recent times so I took a stroll around to see if

anything is new under the sun. It was refreshing to see that little has changed;

 

You still should not be allowed to ride a cart unless you're over 80 years old or have no legs.

 

You don't need golf lessons just buy a set of blades and they (the blades) will fix your swing.

 

If you have SGI irons in your bag you should still never miss a shot because SGI irons are

just point and shoot and automatic.

 

The over 30 rule still applies to white belts; age over 30 or waist over 30 a no no.

 

If your round takes more than 2 hours you need to take up another sport.

 

15 handicappers can still hit baby draws and butter cuts; (presumably because their blades

taught them how).

 

Covid caused an aberration in golf. Once Covid is gone, golf will go back to dying again

and WRX will be full of "Golf is dying" threads because old men are still dying so fast

that there aren't enough of everyone else to make up for it. 

 

I know I'm forgetting something. Hopefully it's not a Scotty Putter Cover or a PXG 6 iron.

Very cool shot!  Brings back memories of a staff tournament and barbeque a few years back where we decided to play through intermittent rains.  Needless to say I was soaked to the skin.  The fresh breeze you speak of had me shivering later that evening.  Knocked back a sausage on a bun and about a half a beer and then hit the road.  Had my seat heater on during the drive home! 🥶

Had a decent game on Monday in men's league with a 42.  Got my buddy Dave into the group for this season and we played together along with the most senior member of the group:  Fred Cope who is 87.  Fred is a good guy, but his health has been failing.  He didn't play at all last year.  He used to play to a 6, but has lost quite a bit.  Still straight as an arrow though!

 

Playing today with DW in the mixed league that we joined.  Hopefully we'll get to meet the couple that we've been paired with for the season.  (Different clubs have different COVID policies)

Playing with a friend tomorrow morning (7:00 tee time to beat the 100° heat) and taking the persimmons and MS-11 blades for fun. Nothing in the bag younger than a Millennial...

 

We'll get paired with another twosome for sure. Hole #1 is a par 5.

 

My plan is to pull out the Tony Penna driver and mumble something about not having played for a long, long time.

 

Then I'll continue with, "Wow, look at those giant steel drivers y'all have! Let me see that thing. Is that shaft plastic? Does everyone use those things now?"

 

Should be lots of fun. 🙂

We had a nice weekend at daughter 2 in Portland Ore. Golf, golf and more golf with my SIL. We played  Fri. in a 4 man best ball at Rose City Muni where he grew up playing as a Jr.  Got to play Willamette Valley CC on Sat. morning (beautiful) and another 18 at Columbia Edgewater CC (beautiful) where he is a member in the afternoon. Perfect warm weather and finished the day with a nice meal with the ladies on the outdoor deck of the clubhouse.  Played in another 4 man best ball on Sun morning back at Rose City and shot my best round of the weekend even though I was pretty tired. So I have bragged before about my SIL.  He had a stretch of 45 holes without a bogy and made 9 birds!  So fun to watch him play. 72 holes in one weekend is too much for this old dog!  Back home yesterday to very hot weather. (but it's a dry heat)

I bow at your feet @scotee! 🙇‍♂️  27 holes over 4 days is about all I'm good for at this point in time.

 

It was hot out there this morning.  We walked and we were both puffing coming up the 9th fairway.  That was enough for us for today.  DW played brilliantly.  We kept score this time and she carded a legit 43.  Doesn't sound like much for the rest of you, but it's a triumph for her.  I noticed a couple of small things to focus on if we can get to the range and practice a bit.  We played solo once again as our playing partners were no-shows.  There were two foursomes hot on our heels that pushed us through in an hour and a half.  No wonder we were getting tired.

 

Golf again tomorrow in men's league provided we don't get washed out...

Gmail Gripe

 

I ordered some items for DW from the local big box golf retailer on Saturday.  On their homepage they say that if the item is in stock they will fill your order within 2 hours.  

 

I got the confirmation email right away and have been waiting for the order pickup email to follow.  I was in the area of the store twice this week, but no ready for pickup email had been sent.  I even called the store directly, but no one would answer which I'm finding is an issue during this lockdown.  Retailers ask for an email order or a phone order for curbside pickup, but I haven't had any luck with either.  Some retailers have this figured out and respond quickly.  Others just flail!  No wonder Amazon is killing bricks and mortar retail.  I suspect many will never recover because customers such as myself have vowed not to do business with the poor performers during this time.

 

I never look at my email on the computer unless it's something I need to attend to after screening the message on my phone.  This morning I discovered that Golftown had in fact sent the ready for pickup email to me on Saturday; 2 hours after the original order was placed!  It got swept up in my promotion filter on Gmail.  I have no idea how the order confirmation bypassed the filter and yet the subsequent email got filtered out?  It's a mystery.

 

It's raining so I won't be golfing.  I guess I'll make a special trip just to get her order... 🙄

So did you do it?

 

When I came back to golf in 2006 after about 12 years of not playing I actually did go

out with persimmons and thin blades my first round back. I had been completely unplugged

from golf during all those years and didn't know how much equipment had drastically

changed since the early 90s.

ROTFLMAO---- I would love to be an observer and hear all of that--- Right up my alley sounds like something I would do------- I have pulled that stunt a few times especially when I play my 1940 Tommy Armours over at the tourist Executive Trap.

I added these newly refinished MacGregor Tourneys fairway woods to the bag today and debuted the the 3-wood on the first tee, along with my story!

 

It was loads of fun. I was getting the stink eye from the other twosome. I even limped a little for added effect.

 

I flushed the 3-wood and a perfect little draw that outdrove everyone else. It was like something out of a movie.

 

One of the guys grinned when we got out to our drives and said that was a pretty good shot. I winked and said that I didn't quite catch it, but thanks. Ha!

 

I hit these woods pure all day.  I hit them better than my TaylorMade stuff. They've moving to my regular bag (PRGR Driver, these fairway woods, Hogan Icons and Titleist wedges and whatever putter catches my fancy in the garage that day.
