Yep I was thinking you have the same Adams 16* FW I have I can remember us having a discussion about it. Mine is not leaving the bag--- My old V- Steel 7 & 9 woods I put my old shafts in them ( UST Pro Force Gold 65 S) and I can hit them fine and do not hurt myself. LOL yesterday I hit a lay up on a par 5 with the 7 wood. Now we have not had much rain and one of our irrigation pumps are down and so our fairways are as hard as concrete. I flushed it and I hit my target ( surprise surprise) that ball hit hard and kicked forward on the fringe of the green. Some folks were on the green. I went up to apologize and it turns out it was some fellow members I know. One of them told me that ball hit hard. The other one has played with me some so he knows my game. I normally hit that 7 wood about 175 or so now and this went 220 from my calculations. Yeah all in all I hit the fairways better than the hybrids. The jury is still out on the TP CBs I hit them ok but do not have confidence in them. The M-6 I finally think I got it set right and weighted right. Yep it was a lead tape day for me

 

 

Today I am not playing the shootout because we have the 9 and Dine tonight and I am playing it with my wife. In all honesty the MacHogans will be back in the bag. My Pro friend discussed it last night and he agrees with me on playing both events puts a strain on me. He can relate because he has had injuries too. Besides I have fun but play to win and we have won the last 2--- 9 and Dine events. They have a big field for tonight so it will be tough but fun and the food afterwards is always great.

I met with the surgeon today. He said 2 weeks after I'll be back on my ridem mower and 4 

weeks after that I'll be back on the golf course. I was so glad to hear that! 

 

My hernia surgery was robot assisted and so will be this surgery. Smaller incision, more

accuracy, better outcome and faster recovery time. 

 

I had been reading on line that the normal recovery time for a hip replacement is 3-6 months.

I guess those are times for the old school way of doing it. 6 weeks sounds much better

to me, lol.

 

I'm looking forward now to getting it done and to stop limping around like an old geezer.😃

DW had her hip done around 40 years ago, it was done at the hospital in the UK where they pioneered the procedure. They told her Ten tears was the normal life for them but she was fitted with a special one that never has to be changed. Two weeks in hospital and six weeks recovery until fully mobile.

 

The day before the operation they sat all of those for the next two weeks in a room and screened a video of the actual operation, she said the way the leg is screwed round and your foot pulled up over your head to give them room to insert it in the bone almost put her off. Anyway best of luck Conrad from my experience it will change your life.

I have a former co-worker and good friend who had a hip replacement about a year ago (prior to Covid). Prior to the surgery he was unable to walk to the mailbox without significant pain. He tried a physical therapy, inversion table, and most everything you can imagine for over two years. He was finally able to be examined by an orthopedic surgeon who was able to show him his issue on an x-ray. Within a month he was having the procedure. After spending the night in the hospital he was sent home and within 3 days he was reporting to physical therapy. I went by to see him at his home a few days post-op and he told me, "I wish I'd done this 10 years ago. I had no idea my back pain could have been related to my hip(s)". Within a month he was walking to the mailbox, this time pain free. He's working in the yard again and more importantly, he is able to go squirrel hunting (his true passion) again for the first time in three years. He told me when it's my time to not give it a second thought, just get it done. 

 

Good luck Conrad and you'll be back in the fairway for the 4th of July Tournament.

Good luck @Conrad1953 on the hip procedure.  My father had hip replacement surgery back in the early 80's.  It was a more drawn out recovery back then than what it is now.  I know one of the regulars at the club had it done about 3 years ago in October and he was out for the first round of the year the following March.  Never skipped a beat and he was 80 at the time!

 

Interesting that @nitram would mention about a friend who had hip replacement surgery and that solved his back pain.  My right hip has been giving me the gears on and off for a while now.  I overdid the garden work last weekend and have been suffering for it until I got to my chiropractor yesterday.  Couldn't do diddly for about three days, but have been back at it since then albeit slowly.

 

Probably blessed with the old man's skeletal issues based on us having similar problems.  I gave up on the bull work at a much earlier age then he did hoping that my save me, but maybe not.  Bouncing around all day in a field on a tractor seat isn't exactly the most body friendly way to live life.  Won't be surprised if a new hip is in the cards down the road.

Good luck, Radro.  Had mine done Jan 2020.  First 12 hrs I couldn't get comfortable. After that, it'll get better.  Therapy is a must.  Do what they tell you and stay within your bending restrictions until released and you'll do fine.  If you have any questions you know how to get a hold of me.  You'll do great,  bro

Great story!  I'm reminded of a similar reclamation project of a 12 hole course in New Zealand I believe that wove through sheep paddocks where greens were fenced off and golfers were opening and closing gates as they made their way around the course.

 

I haven't played vintage gear in a number of years, but I will always have a bag or two at the ready should such unique opportunities present themselves to play storied courses maintained in a natural state.

Yep that last paragraph kinda summs it up for me--- Would love to go across the big pond and play some of the everyday working man's courses with vintage gear. I last played a full vintage round over a year ago before my accident. Right now I am having trouble swinging steel shafted irons except wedges

 

Saturday was so so shot +1 for 9 holes and trust me I scrambled my butt off. Only greens hit in reg for 9 holes were the Par3s and Par 5s. Could not make a birdie putt but had 3 scrambling up and downs. The jury is out on the TM irons I decided to play them instead of the MacHogans.

Golfworks order finally arrived yesterday.  Not too bad for backordered product at a month.  I received the half dozen Lamkin Sonar+ Calibrate swing grips and the grip removal tool.  The putter grip is still on backorder that I intend to put on my Huntington Beach 6, so that will have to wait.

 

We're still at least a couple of weeks away from reopening golf courses, so there will be plenty of time to complete the job of regripping once I've got the garden work caught up.  Things are looking good on that front -- the planter boxes were filled on Monday with annuals -- in the process of spreading compost and working that in the borders before applying mulch.  The veggies will get planted next week.  It may only be May, but I'm already watering regularly as we have had a very dry spring.

 

This is our first consistently warm week with temperatures in the mid 20's each day.  It's nice to finally have short and tee-shirt weather with meals on the patio.  Doing my best to keep busy with different small jobs to pass these days.  I guess the good news is that once we are back on the course there shouldn't be anything getting in the way of playing as often as I want to!

So I'm almost at the end of my two weeks of excessively busy golf schedule and I think I might throw in an update.  

 

Friday 7th - Refereeing the clubs mixed pairs final - (Had a lovely evening walking in the sun, there were no contentious issues so no rules decisions required, finished the evening with a couple of beers in the sun and the four competitors treated me to a Donar kebab for dinner)

Saturday 8th - Monthly Stableford - (Played well, struggle on the greens as they are not in great shape but managed to put together 34 points)

Sunday 9th - Club Mens greensomes competition - (Had a great day, played really well as a pair shooting 2 over our hanicap, which was 7, however we did go triple bogey, triple bogey on holes 6 & 7. 😞 

Tuesday 11th - Short Game Lesson - This went far better than expected, seems my short game technique is in better shape than I thought, my issues is bad habits creeping into the action rather than a fundamental flaw in my method. Putting needed a more actual fix, club handle had dropped too low making my path a little inconsistent. Raising the handle is the fix however that is uncomfortable/semi painful to achieve with my current grip (old wrist injury) so a modification to my grip was required. Feeling more comfortable with it now. 

Wednesday 12th - First Scratch League match of season against another club - What a day this was, partner and I played a superb foursomes round wining 6&5. We didn't really put a foot wrong and hit some great shots/ 

Thursday 13th - Mens Open Tournament at Coxmoor Golf Club - Highlight of my golfing year so far, format was best 2 scores from 4, stableford. My personal score was a gross four under par 69, I made 5 birdie and 1 bogy for the day and really felt like I couldn't do anything wrong. Our team scored a total of 84 points, and while very good we were well short of second place 92 and the winning 101 points. (I leave you guys to figure how many under par that is) 

Sunday 16th - Caddy for Daughters Junior Medal - This was very enjoyable, especially as Daughter was using her new clubs which are full size ladies clubs. She's very happy to now be out of junior clubs. She didn't play particularly good but we enjoyed the afternoon as always. 

Tuesday 18th - Club midweek medal - This didn't happen and instead I was picked to play the second sratch league match. Same partner as the previous week however we didn't fair so well this time and lost 4&3. Several missed putts early on cost us and we were 4 down after 5. It was a great match from that point on and was an example of balls triking vs scrambling. Ona  ball striking scale my partner and I were well above the opponents however from a short game level they were miles ahead of us. Up and down from everywhere and their putts never looked like missing. 

Saturday 22nd - Clubs Masters Tournament (Invite Only, must win a tournament previous year to qualify)

Sunday 23rd - County Club Knockout First Round match against another club 

 

After all this I starting to think I need some Conrad level upgrades

That's a lot of golf. I managed to get out yesterday to a course called the Boulders about 25 minutes north of me.

Nice views and not a bad course, but not in the best shape now since they just reopened from aerating greens and fairways. Greens were poor, but I managed to hit close enough on enough holes to shoot one under. Played the first few holes poorly after no time to warm up or putt, or it would have been better.

 

Oh, and I wan't paying enough attention getting out of the cart on one tee box and almost stepped on a really, really, really big rattlesnake. Scary stuff!

well....I have been lurking, but not posting much guys.  Our group of friends numbered 16 to start. 

We played all sports together since we were 6 years old.. Lost a couple a few years ago. Sadly, this year we

lost 4. Two from the virus, and the other two from heart issues. Hasn't been a very good spring. 

I'll be around . I still enjoy the discussion here, but I wont be posting much. Save my seat.  I'll be back.
