You just can’t compare men and women, not golf specific, but the other day I saw an interview with Serena Williams, and Andy Murray wanted to have a legit match for charity, Serena said no way.  She said that a male tennis player would beat her in straight sets and she would be lucky to win a single game, and this is from arguably the greatest ever.

 

I agree. Reminds me of the silliness I hear about Alabama beating an NFL team. Ya sure. The worst

NFL team would destroy Alabama....or any other college team...but people love to pontificate and

if it floats their boat to do so it makes no never mind to me.

Agree, no college football team is going to beat a pro team.  The only sport I think it could happen in is baseball, if the college team had a couple stud pitchers.

I think that it's possible.  There are some very poor pro teams out there and you don't want to discount the On Any Given Sunday reality.  This would apply to all professional sports.  The odds may not be very good, but there will be outliers.

par 5 485 yards.................she hit driver 313 and then 8 iron 172 onto the green. She's 5'6" and

hitting the ball as far as some men on the PGA Tour?

I watched most of the event and the reruns. The talking heads were pointing out the fact she has broadened her extension on the take away and clears her lower body quicker now.  WOW in my old age I sound like Reasy

or had a serious downhill or downwind drive. Maybe all the above. The 172 8 iron must have been

Plus, I don't know how reliable these on course announcers are. Supposedly they get a hand

signal from the caddie as to the club being hit.  

 

Maria Fassi would be Brendan Todd if she was on the PGA Tour and would rank #192, next to

last. Cameron Champ was #1 for the 2022 season at 321.4 yard average drive. Rory was right

behind him at 321.3 yards. 

 

So, only 1 guy on the PGA Tour hit the ball shorter than the longest woman on the LPGA. That

sounds more like it. A lot of these big numbers we hear on TV watching the LPGA are not the

norm. They are hole or condition specific. 

 

I'm not intending to take anything away from the LPGA players. They are awesome players

but they are not hitting the ball as far as the men, as i originally thought before hearing all

these crazy long numbers at the CME.  Methinks that course was playing hard and fast and

the wind was blowing. 

 

Sorry for all the nonsense. I was just having a hard time reconciling what I was hearing with

what I thought was reality, lol. 

 

Half the time I do not believe the clubs versus distances the Talking Heads give out on the PGAT either. And if you look on driver distances the fairways are cut tight and are dry to enhance roll.

As a student, I had the opportunity to see both the Seahawks and UW Huskies play at Husky Stadium when Lumen Field was being built, sometimes on the same weekend iirc.  All I could think was how much faster the pass rushers were in the NFL.  Boy those guys could get into the backfield quick!  Sure anything can happen, but the odds aren't good at all.  The pro team would have all day to throw.

Flukes do happen from time to time. I remember. in the 1980 Olympics, when the US Hockey team

beat the Russian team, the media analogy used was that it being the equivalent of a high school

football team beating the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rather than distance hit and the club used I'd rather her clubhead speed and more importantly ball speed numbers alongside these supposed club selections. 

 

Would give a better indicator to the viewer how well the ball was struck and benchmark to compare against.

 

My (average) driver ball speed with a Driver is low 170's. This puts me around 100th on PGA. My drives can range between 330 and 250 depending on conditions (both course and weather), hole design (up and down hill) and many other factors as simple as if the ball gets a hard bounce or not.

Betting you wish you had a million dollar budget for advertising the SLED.  I'm putting great with my Odyssey #7 but when that comes to an end I will seriously consider the SLED... the thinking and science behind it just seems so logical. 

 

Now, would I get the Grille discount on that?  Or the Grille surcharge?

Hats off to you. As a retired  highway traveling salesman, truckers always had my respect and got courtesy. My neighbor retired 2 years ago after he fell asleep leaving the rest area at 4 a m and took his empty double off of I90. Jumped the rig over a cross road and into a field. Luck was on his side and got away with just bumps and bruises. He ran overnight deliveries  across a mountain pass and we had just been talking about if his habit of getting 4 hours of sleep a night was enough at his age. He's livin large in Florida now on a golf course.

Thanks back in the day some trucks had stickers that said  " if you got it a truck brought it" I know a salesman who had stickers printed up saying "If a truck brought it a salesman sold it". Glad to know your neighbor survived and retired to Florida

45 degrees and sunny with very little wind so I got in some quality time with the Honma's today . Can't think of the last time I've been this impressed with a set of irons. They are everything Touch and Conrad said they were and more. Here's my take.

 

Distance - they are a degree weaker in lofts than my G400's but distance seems the same even though it was pretty damn cool. They could be longer if the temps would have been in the 60's or 70's. They feel Hot off the face.

 

Feel/Sound - I can't describe what perfect sounds or feels like but that's what they are. I flushed one 5 iron that just made me laugh out loud. I'm going to speak a word I swore I'd never say when it comes to iron feel....... Butter!

 

Forgiveness - I have no idea how Honma got this much forgiveness out of a iron with such a small footprint but they passed with flying colors. They are every bit as forgiving as my Ping G400's were but the turf interaction is so much better. They are so easy to play around the green. The 11 iron is money.

 

I need to get them bent a degree or two flat but these could remain in my bag for quite some time. They are everything I've always wanted in a iron. Bag appeal and a boatload of performance in a neat little package.
