Jon Rahm vs Bryson DeChambeau, who gets a tour win first?

BDC has 7 wins on the ET/PGA Tour. His other win was on the now Korn Ferry tour. So the ledgers are actually 10 to 7 in favor of Rahm. If you wish to count BDC's KFT win then you should count Rahm's win at the 2018 Hero World Challenge. So it's either 11 to 8 or 10 to 7. Rahm is more accomplished than BDC at this point. It's not even a debate.

There was an interesting take yesterday. Webb Simpson in his interview who said that his life away from golf would mean that is would not be possible to spend the time that Bryson has done on developing his game.

 

David Duval then expanded upon it. Duval was the poster boy for changing physique back in the day and he essentially said that his was simple unable to sustain it once he got into his 30’s. He seemed to wonder if Bryson would be able to do the same. The background to that was family life. Rahm is ahead of Bryson when it comes that. Married last year, little one on the way, etc. Rahm has other priorities in life other than where his next protein shake is coming from 😂

The physicality of BAD's training would ultimately mean his body/game would decline by his early 30's.

Overall Rahm has had a more impressive career than DeChambeau so far, but that was before the hulk. Clear DeChambeau is trending in the right direction with 7 top 10s in a row.

Rahm gets his major now too, for me Rahm’s consistency of high performance was always very impressive and made him stand out against other players his age. Now he’s got that important first major. You never really want it to drag on and start getting the ‘best player without a major tag’ and be asked at every tournament will you win. He’s got that out of the way at 26.

 

Really I think these two will be top 5-10 players for the next 10 years, both have the right games and attitudes. Be interesting to see who ends up better.

Imagine telling yourself in 2016 skinny Bryson would win the US Open while looking like Popeye, start a feud with Brooks Koepka, compete in the long drive championship, and finally join a 54 hole Golf league financed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund over the course of the next 6 years.

I wonder about how DeChambeau feels about his former colleagues competing on the PGA Tour are still doing well whilst he is on a different tour with lower calibre players but can't even get close to an individual win.

Never liked him but sad all the same to see DeChambeau move towards complete irrelevancy at the elite level. Was the bulking really worth it? 4 wins in one season in 2018 at just age 25 before he messed with his body suggested he was on the right track regardless.

For whatever reasons, Bryson seemed interested in pursuing various side roads rather than the straight main road of the PGA Tour.  Maybe he’ll be relevant again in some way, maybe not.

Seems like he’s not the competitor a guy like Woods was or even Koepka is.  Sad because he won both USGA tourneys.  Bummer
