Interesting first round scoring. There seems to be a general consensus the USGA set up the course too easy which appears to have favoured the early starters before the greens dried out and the wind got up a little. The thing is now does the USGA do the same for tomorrow so the late starters have the same possible advantage or do they now set it up harder for everyone tomorrow from the start and therefore penalize the late starters today? Or are we reading too much into the first round scoring.

My opinion is the USGA should again at least water the greens and have them running at the same speed as they were to start today.

I'm not sure if it's possible but it looks like Holly got more work done in the 3 weeks since the men's open.

Incredible she's only 29. Looks 40

Thought about this as Julie, Brad and that other guy were talking about the conditions before Fox finished their coverage.

It seems Lydia was a bit miffed at M. Lee's 64.

If the USGA allows the course to play tough tomorrow, then Fox's afternoon coverage will be heavily censored because of all the curses and yelling coming out of Suzanne and Crusty.

Personally, I prefer it when US Opens turn into a Sam Peckinpah film. I want to see blood out there.

I don't think it's just a coincidence when you get all three of the top RR in the world struggling with a late tee off time that the conditions changed quite a bit. I think you would find both Lexi and Brooke a bit miffed too.

DVR'd yesterdays coverage and scheduled all the coverage on the DVR but have no intent of watching any of it until the USGA unf*cks the setup of this course so it's a true test for all competitors to determine a female United States champion. Doesn't mean the winning score has to be over par or close to that but not a score in the mid-teens under par, which is where we're headed. Come on USGA...

Who cares this forum/topic is supposed to be about a LPGA Major and the players... find another forum.

I have to say unfortunately she does look messed up...not even the same person IMO. Henderson is now using 48" driver...yikes....and yes the par 5's are reachable. It is surprising to see 8 under...can't the girls move back a bit people?

They dumped a bunch of water on the course late Wednesday (they were afraid it was getting too firm/fast and would get away from the ladies).

I agree with your question - will they do the same thing to make it "fair" for the early/late vs late/early groups? Or will they F the late/early side of the draw??.

So Yeon is going to put up a big number on 9.

Yeah - what happened?

They said she went in a hazard, then they showed her 5th shot sail over the green. The never went back to show her 6th, 7th, or 8th shot.

Happened right when I arrived. The ninth is where you enter and they were teeing off. She was longest and all three were in the left rough. Se Ri used a hybrid and just crossed the creek. NYC used an iron and had no problemo. Ryu's club got stuck in the rough and she just missed making it over the creek. When I saw she was -1 that was sad to hear.

Lexi and Brooke struggled to find fairways, so no surprise they didn't score. Now, the fairways did firm up, and they rolled off a handful of them, but it seems their games were off.

Lydia is a relatively short hitter off the tee, and the course is playing close to 6800 yards, compared to their normal 6300 to 6400 yard courses. She seemed to have a hybrid or 5 iron in hand on a lot of holes, and the firm afternoon greens were just not going to hold.

Her 5th shot from the fairway would up in the rough left of the flag, basically short sided. I have to imagine that she wasn't able to get her 6th shot out of the thick rough close, and she two putted for her triple.

Yesterday's draw was like one of The Open Championship days where one wave gets 30mph winds and cold and the other gets the post-storm-blow-through nice weather. The USGA are muppets, but it will be nice to see them at least try and redress yesterdays imbalance.

No comparison. Unlike The Open Championship, there was no storm yesterday. It was a simple matter of a wet course drying out the afternoon due to sun and light winds. If the forecast is the same for today, they should be able to recreate the same conditions.

Erm... um... OK. Yes I was aware there was no storm yesterday. I live here and watched the coverage. My comparison was in how morning vs afternoon scoring was like what you sometimes see across the pond. So I'll keep my comparison in that regard thanks.

Interesting. So you think either changing one's name or marrying someone and taking their last name, may be the key to future success?

Sandra Gal-Nicklaus wins again!

Sandra Palmer would be a good validation of your thought.

Ya validating my thoughts never gets anyone anywhere ;)

That said Brooke Henderson - Rickie Henderson? Paul Henderson? Hendu? That's a winning last name!

Although after yesterday more like Harry and the Hendersons.

Yeah, bonus coverage is currently DOA.

It seems the low morning scoring is continuing today. Sung Hyun Park at -5 through 12, Lydia at -4 through 9, Angela -3 through 10, Sei Young at -3 through 9, and Brooke at -3 through 9. We'll have to see how the afternoon groups do.

I went yesterday and it was great. Not crowded at all. I bought the "cordevalle reserve" tickets. You get to go to the winery & eat and hang out at the bar. It's great to get out of the intense sun but it's way out at the end of the course past the 3rd green and has a distant view of a few of the holes - it's quite a walk from the clubhouse center especially in the sun.

The morning was cold with fog rolling in from the hills - a beautiful sight. Around 10am the fog cleared and it got pretty hot in the sun.

I don't understand players wearing so much makeup on the course. A little mascara or eyeliner is fine, tennis players do that, but you can't expect people to take you seriously as athletes with much more.
