It's definitely been in better shape this spring than it was last year. They updated their website and apparently are touting the housing ( :( ) element again. Did they get an influx of cash? Seems like a new commitment to the facility.

When you say they updated their website, what was updated? To my knowledge nothing new on there for at least a year

I was thinking some of the sub menus referring to memberships, lodging, and real estate were new, but I could be mistaken. I haven't been following breathlessly, so it could be older than I thought. Either way, that's significant compared to when they were circling the wagons and not discussing anything beyond paying for a single round of golf.

Played Dormie on Sunday and it was in excellent shape. This is a great course and well worth leaving the resort to go play. Seeing that it was Mother's Day, there were not many people there; and since this is and in and out course instead of one with a turn, there was no one at the 10th hole canteen. No issue though as there was a phone number to call and everyone had their order in hand by the 11th tee box.

I can't say enough good things about the quality of the layout and design.

Only complaint is that you aren't allowed to hit a driver on the range.

Overall a great experience and a place that I will undoubtedly return to.

Looking at playing first weekend of February -- I know the conditions will be iffy, but I'll be in NC for student orientation and want to take advantage of being in the area. Is a caddy required? It doesn't appear so based upon the website but want to confirm.

That is correct. Not required.

Just played there last week Thursday, and I thought it was fantastic! The course was in beautiful shape, and it's a hell of a layout! The only weird thing was that they had sprayed the greens to make them a different shade of green? I don't know if this was some sort of fertilizer or pesticide or something? It had no effect on the way the greens played, though. Fast and firm. Can't wait to go back.

Not unusual around here. Bermuda greens start turning brown when it gets cool at night--going dormant. Not a sign of them being unhealthy, but people freak out if greens aren't green so most places color them for curb appeal.

No first hand knowledge, but based on past experience, it should be fine.

January through mid April is when Dormie conditions suck the most. All the courses down there struggle respectively during that same time frame, but Dormie seems to struggle moreso, especially when compared to Needles/Mid-Pines level of course.

I thought Dormie had bent greens?

Did you end up playing? Conditions?

Yes, we played mid December and I'd describe conditions as "very good!" My daughter and I loved the course. We chose to walk with a caddy and I'm glad we did as the high temp was only about 39 that day with a cold wind.

I am planning to go over 3/12 & 13 to play at Dormie. Wondering if anyone that lives in the area can tell me if it's as wet as the forecasts have suggested. The ten day looks like some rain almost every day. I have a couple pre-paid rounds to use by 3/15, but,, not interested in going if it's going to be soupy conditions.

Played there twice in the last 2 weeks. It was interesting how much better the greens were on Tuesday the 27th than on the 15th. They had grown in a good bit and putted great. They were good on the 15th, but much better on the 27th. The fairways were good considering how much rain there has been lately. The course didn't play fast after the rain on the 26th, but we had great day. Out 2nd behind a single and didn't see anyone all day.

Thanks for the reply. You never know how an extended forecast will unfold unless I'm planning to play golf. At least some heavy winds are expected with the fronts that are coming through between now and my arrival.

We played today and went off just before 11:00AM. Wasn't crowded, just a little on the cool side when we started. Course was firm and fairways were giving up some bounce and roll. The dormant Bermuda on the fairways has taken a bit of a beating over this strange Winter and thin in places. Lies were still pretty good throughout the course. Greens were really good. Receptive to a good shot, not overly fast, but, enough pace that you didn't want to be above the hole. All in all an enjoyabe day and finished in three hours.

Played Dormie on Saturday. Overall its in pretty good shape. Greens are real firm and fast though. Though I felt that way about Mid Pines and Tobacco Road too.

Anyone play Dormie in the past few weeks? Heading up there to play next Friday and deciding between Dormie vs. Mid Pines

Played early this am , The new collars on the greens are finished and growing in nicely. Fairways and greens are excellent. Some of waste areas have a slight amount of rain or runoff damage from all the rain we have have had and I guess will be back to normal in the next day or so as they were working on them this morning.

A couple of quick photos

Played there Sunday morning to finish up our Pinehurst trip. What a way to go out. Course is in spectacular condition this time of year. It was my first time playing it and the wow factor was up there. Total immersive experience in an awesome natural setting.
