Anyone still playing Adams irons?

Picked up a set of Adams IDEA Black CB2 forged 4-GW KBS tour 90 stiff. I think they are 2011 models and were priced accordingly.

 

I had read up on these before i had hit them and found some great reviews on them.

 

I had hit these at the range against some other sets and thought they were better than most of them.

 

I had just picked up my 2014 apex/apex pros from my club fitter as he had removed some recoils and installed some steel shafts.

 

Took the apex and the CB2's out to the course tonight just for fun before i sold them both.

 

The apex had been my favourite clubs till my swing got handzy and l started hitting them left a lot. I wanted to see how they did with the steel vs the recoils. I think the apex played better with the steel.

 

I was alternating shots between the apex and the adams.

 

The Adams felt damn impressive, very soft feel and if i was choosing between the two sets i would pick the Adams. [not for sale] lol

 

It was addicting to hit the CB2's, they are 8620 forged ?? is that cast then struck with a press??

 

Loved the feel and the playability chipping near the green.

 

If i was blindfolded and told i was hitting high end 1020 Endo forged irons i would have believed it.

 

Adams did something right with these irons, too bad they are not in business anymore.

Adams XTD Forged here. Awesome forgiving blade like iron. I can't get over the shots I hit when I hit them way off the toe. Long, forgiving, and cheap!

Adams v4's ... I'm aware SGI's aren't considered irons on WRX.

Adams CMB with c-tapers. I've had them for three seasons. I am not considering switching them any time soon. In fact I wouldn't switch them for anything else than perhaps the srixon 745, but in that case I would want a trade set for set. I really like them...

I played cb3s for two seasons and have now since moved onto a set of xtd forged with a set of xtd tours as a backup. The quality for the price you can get them for is unreal. Always been an adams fan and don't plan on changing for a while.

Still gaming the A4 Forged with dgsl's. I keep looking for something to replace them with, but I haven't found them yet. Love the feel and forgiveness. Only thing I miss is a 4 iron. Ditched the hybrids the day I bought the set. The stiff shafts were ridiculously stiff.

I've got a set of MB2's (TVD finish), CMB's, and XTD Forged. Playing the XTD's....a little more forgiving and a bit longer. Could play any of the 3, but the XTD's earned the spot. Best value out there.

I played adams cb3 irons before moving onto the cmb irons. They are both fantastic irons. I'm looking forward to trying the srixon line, but would be very impressed if anything knocks the cmb's out of the bag

Just (foolishly) sold a set of CMBs.

 

Still have a combo set of MB2s and A12 pros which are supposed to be a practice set that will punish my errant swing harshly enough during the week that when I pull out the hero set on the weekend their forgiveness will be amplified and lead me to comp and handicap glory.

 

Well, that's the theory.

 

Trouble is I hit the MB2 blades far better than my handicap should permit, and the A12 Pros even better.

 

And they look and feel so cool.

 

I tried my CMBs directly against Apex CF16s. On course. Mano a mano.

 

There was no discernible difference in forgiveness, even given the vagaries of my swing. Lofts aside, there was no discernible difference in distance.

 

There was a notable difference in feel.

 

The Apex are a tad clicky. Even when I fluked one in the sweet spot.

 

The Adams always felt solid. And when I fluked one in the middle they just melted.

 

I just bought a complete set of A12 Pros on eBay so I can fiddle with my MB2 combo set. They cost me $100.

 

They may or may not be a 'better' iron than something like an Apex or AP2, but they are at least equivalent.

 

And 1/4 the rpice.

Still playing the cb3s. I did reshaft them with dynalite gold xps in the 4 thru 6 and tt lites xl in 7 thru gw.

 

my backup are Maltby TEs with similar shaft setup.

I've played MB2's with PX since 2012. I've tried to replace them because they're getting pretty worn out, but haven't found anything that is nearly as good for me. For a few years there Adams was making some of the best irons out there.

Not just irons.

 

After trying all sorts of different hybrids I've gone back to my 8 year old Pro Golds.

 

No difference in length compared to the latest and greatest.

 

Much straighter due to an open face and long blade length.

CMB with TT Tour Concept shafts. So good.

They stay at my in-laws and I actually get excited when we have a trip to visit coming up... So I can get a few rounds with them in.

I rotate my OG Nike Blades and my XTD Forged irons. Depending on the conditions and my ball striking that week.

 

I have an older set of Tour Issue Pro Gold PVD's that I still absolutely love.

CMBs w/ CTapers... had them for 3 years... bought an extra set this year too because they are just perfect,

 

i would agree the closest thing ive thought about gaming is the Srixon Z745s... almost got that set when i bought the extra CMBs but naaaah

I tinker and have three two combo sets MB2 / CMB. Sold a set last year to a guy who pestered me for em' months and got fitted for Wishon after that. Took a set out this summer for a practice run and we still make an impressive team.

A-12 Pro's are the best! Still gaming them, but CF 16 Apex's are on the way.

Adams has some of the best forged irons ever made IMO opinion. Too bad Taylomade bought them and turned them into who knows what. A12 pros, CMB,s. A4 Forged, Pro Gold, Pro Forged, Cb1-Cb3, XTD forged. Take your pick they are ALL great irons and as good as anything out there. I hope Adams goes back to being independent again!

Virage Tech did some fantastic work for Adams prior to the T Made buy out.

I have a set of the regular xtd irons and really like them. Tried a bunch of different sets when I was looking last summer and loved how long and forgiving they were . Performed as well as anything else I tried and better in most cases.

Just got back on here to research a new set of irons. Still gaming my A12 pro irons and every time I think I want a new set I stick with them. I thought I was close with AP2's but just didn't get the numbers I expected to even make the switch. Went from Cobra S9's to Adams long ago and still going. Seen my first round in the 70's in these irons. Dropping from double digit handicap to a single. To expecting to stay in the 70's every round. To my first round in the 60's (68). Would love to get my first hole in one with these babies. Who needs new irons. Maybe a reshaft is in order thought. KBS tours to C-Taper lights might be the ticket???
