One thing is for certain - any old man wearing alligator, ostrich, or lizard wing tips, or saddles, doesn't give a flying f6ck what some youngster in tennis shoes thinks is stylish! :blind:

And likewise, I'm sure.

Apparently not, or else why does this discussion exist?

For those of you that think you can't wear Shield Tips (they're not wingtips) or Saddles with shorts, it's really not hard to do. And I have 16 pairs of Icons that I wear and walk full rounds in most of the time and I love them! All these photos are with shorts.

The only shoes that I think of as being "Old Man's Shoes" are any shoes with Velcro straps instead of laces. :-)

I have seen some of your posts before and you do a great job of matching all the clothes, shoes and belts together

You are darn skippy on that one Tex--- Don't mess with us old ill farts because like you said we do not give a flying f6ck what someone else thinks period! One of my deals is white Dry Joys with pink laces I get some looks from both young and old but those laces were bought from a young lady selling them for the breast cancer foundation. They also fit my do not give a hoot non conforming persona

Some of the under 20s at our club are wearing golf shoes with black socks and shorts. They've adopted OUR father's style.

Doesn't like good on anybody.

Young women on our local college campus have been rocking ankle-length black socks with white running shoes and random color gym shorts (the real baggy kind) for a couple years now. Can't recall any period in history where that was a look...

Yes, and add in some bling to make the point even more clear. The summer outfit is more on the modest side.

If you want to be Dressy, then Wing Tips or Oxfords are the way to go. I have any number of pairs and they are classy, but I only wear them when at a fancy country club and wearing long pants and in a cart.

For everyday play, wearing shorts and walking, the old standards are just to heavy. I go with the light weight sport type. I don't care for the high tops, they just aren't a stylish look, save them for basketball.

Now on the high tops some of us need them for bad ankles. In the last 6 months I have not worn my high topped Chuck Taylor tennis shoes. But I have lost weight and due to the new meds my Doctor has given me my ankles do not swell and hurt anymore but If needed I will wear my high tops . Mostly I wear my Dry Joys or my Nike Luneron ones which are flashy but they were free and are good shoes. I am hard to fit because I wear a 13 wide

The emergence of Tiger Woods has much to do with the break from traditional old-man shoes (i.e., saddles and wingtips) to odious attempts at innovation. These despicable shoes were so damn ugly that not even "I am Tiger Woods"-kids would not wear them. They look even worse in person than in pictures.

I agree with you, that wingtips and shorts look tacky. However, saddles and shorts get along quite well. Heck, there are B&W pictures of teenage Jack Nicklaus wearing shorts and saddles.

Here's Jack in August wearing shorts and "old man" shoes.

all-black shoes and shorts.... that's a whole 'nuther thread, isn't it?

Is OK with BLACK socks, lol. Black shoes and white socks? No

Maybe I don't know the difference honestly.... I thought I did but when I did a little research, I saw a lot of the same models showing up. I can handle the wingtip style but only when the upper and the tip are the same color. I personally wouldn't wear them But hey that's just my opinion. And I personally don't care what clothes or shoes or anything anybody else wears on the course.

Are you sponsored by FJ? Because FJ polos are loose and rubbish. The epitome of old man's apparel. Not sure why you'd advertise that you have terrible taste.

Funny.

I am, by any reasonable and traditional measure of the term, size extra large. You can put me next to people that you'd say are "large" and I'm a bit larger. Extra large, in fact.

For several years now it has been necessary for me to buy size "L/G" in Foot-Joy and most other golf brand shirts. Not the "XL/TG" that I bought for 20 years before that. Just the way things go.

But now I find the FJ shirts marked "L/G" are baggy as all get out. Way too much loose material flopping around, especially if it gets a bit sweaty. Solution? I now have to seek out the size-large FJ shirts in "Athletic Fit". That's precious, right there. Nobody has ever mistaken me for an athlete or ever will with my Phil Mickelson boobs and my pussle-gut. .

It must be difficult trying to cater to the egos of golfers if you're in that business...

There's no problem with calling a style that was popular 15 - 50 yrs ago old. So obviously people from that era show more adherence to the style. I went through many generations of wingtips and saddles, but now have Addizeros and Nike Luna somethingsomethings. I have yet to try the softsoles, I always think they look like living room slippers.

I have a guilty pleasure in the form of a pair of leather bottom metal spike white/brown saddle shoes. A couple times per year I will ask my head pro if I can head out late in the day by myself and wear my metals, and he says no problem. I find that they give not necessarily better, but a different and maybe more intimate grip with the ground than plastic. You can really feel the bite of the top inside 3 spikes of your right foot during the downswing.

Well thanks for sharing "your" personal feelings. I happen to feel the opposite of you. I think FJ polos are very high quality. And just like all articles of clothing, you have to find the size that fits "you". Not just pick whatever size "you" usually wear. I have no problem finding shirts that fit me. Perhaps you need to try the FJ Athletic style shirts?

As far as "old man's apparel", there are many young players on the PGA Tour that are wearing FJ shirts. Kind of blowing your theory out of the water.
